I can't remember the price but I did come across some at AC Moore. If you can't find anything online I would try calling some craft stores!

I also wonder if you could make your own colored sand like with food coloring. I don't know if it would work or not, but it might.

You can dry sand or any type of dirt out pretty quickly by laying it out flat on newspapers. The newspaper soaks up the moisture. I've dried clayey soils out like this and it takes a few days. Sand does not hold water well because the pores are much smaller so it should take less time.

I think Cindy did the sand ceremony too. I mighty be mistaken, but I thinks he might have. Here is a link to her journal if you want to look at it and see if she has anything about the sand ceremony here.

Yes I did this and it worked out great. I got my sand from Michaels. It wasn't that expensive at all. I got the little vases i used form Wal-Mart. Here are a couple of the pictures of our sand ceremony. We included the kids so we had 4 different colors of sand. I also picked up 3 smal plastic bottles and filled them before hand and gave them to the our moms and his grandmother.

this is the page from our book we are getting soon

haha I love the sand idea, and we are going to have it at our reception actually, but I do have to say, I always think of the tubes of the powder candy in big candy stores.... I dont know if you guys know what I am talking about or not, you fill your own 'tube' with this powdery stuff, I dk if it is sweet or sour or what. Too bad they don't just have sand like that, because they have tons of colors!

This may sound weird but I promise it's not...
My Mom was making decorative candle holders and needed coloured sand to put in them. Neither one of us could belive how hard it was to find nice coloured sand, not even at Michaels unless you bought a kids sand art set.
So we went next door to pet smart to buy some dog food. And right there was a ton of decorative sand colours that you use for lizards and such. all the colours of the rainbow at a fraction of the price of reg coloured sand from a craft store.
Check it out, you might be suprised what you'd find, I knwo we were.

Your welcome, you could always talk to the manager to and see if it's an item that they get in quite often some manager's will let you order bunches of an item to. And when it comes in it never hit's the shelves. They will set it aside for you.

Just in case anyone needs them here are some sand ceremonies
Sand Ceremony #1

Officiant
(Name & Name) you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings. This covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you, (Bride) and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, (Groom), and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are combined, the individual vases of sand will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, one love.

Couple pours sand in to one container

Sand Ceremony #2

Officiant
(Name & Name), you have now sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings. You are now going to perform the sand ceremony which symbolizes the joining of two lives and the ongoing existence of each ones’ individuality. This relationship is symbolized through the combining of these two individual vases of sand. The first represents (Bride), all that she has accomplished and all that she will become in the future. The other represents (Groom), all that he has accomplished and all that he will become in the future. These vases also represent (Name & Name’s) families, as they would not be the people they are today without the love and support of their families.

Sand Ceremony #3

Officiant
(Name & Name) today you join your separate lives together. The two separate bottles of sand symbolize your separate lives, separate families and separate sets of friends. They represent all that you are and all that you’ll ever be as an individual. They also represent your lives before today. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.

Three Sand Ceremony

Officiant
Love is the eternal force of life.
Love is the force that allows us to face fear and uncertainty with courage.
But although you will be sharing one life, never forget you are two separate people.
Cherish and affirm your differences.
Love each other.
Keep your commitment primary.
Together you will laugh and cry, be sick and well, be happy and angry, share and grow.
Grow sometimes together, sometimes separately.

Officiant
To symbolize the importance of the individuals within the marriage and the joining of two lives into one entity, 3 colors of sand will now be layered into a base.

Bride and groom are each presented with a jar of colored sand, the Officiant has a neutral color sand and large clear container with lid

Officiant
We begin with a layer of Neutral Sand which symbolizes that the marriage is grounded."

Officiant pours some neutral sand into base of the large jar

Officiant
Then we layer the individual colors. This symbolizes that the marriage is based on the strength of the individuals."

Groom pours in a little sand from his jar, Officiant adds some neutral, the bride adds a layer from her jar and the Officiant then adds a little more neutral

Officiant
And now we combine the colors, which symbolizes two lives joined as one together forever.

Bride and Groom simultaneously pour their remaining sand into the large jar until their jars are empty. The Officiant caps off the sand with the last of the Neutral Sand. The Officiant then holds the large jar up as if presenting to the wedding audience and places the jar to the side

Sand Ceremony including child/children #1

Officiant
(Name & Name), you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and the exchange of vows. (Name) you have pledged your devotion to (Name’s child). This moment will now be symbolized through the pouring of these three individual containers of sand that represent each member of this new union and their unique individuality, into one vase that shall forever serve as a reminder of the new family that has been born here today. Each individual bottle contains a color that alone is beautiful, but when combined with the other colors it will depict the belief that together they can become much more than each could alone. (names) will now each pour their individual colors together. While each color will still maintain its own identity they will also blend and mix, complimenting each other, bringing out hues and shades of each that were unnoticeable before. When you look at this vase now and see the many configurations and the merging of the (#) colors, you will notice that each grain of sand maintains its own space, never losing itself, but blending together to support the structure of the combination, just as it shall be with your family. Just as these grains of sand now can never be separated so shall your marriage and family be.

Sand Ceremony Including child/children #2

Officiant
(Name & Name), today you join your lives together. These bottles of sands of various colors symbolize your individual spirits of you, and that of your (children). Each container is unique, representing who you are. As you now combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your family be.

Sand Ceremony read by family member *
Officiant
I invite (Name) up here for the Sand Ceremony

Family member
(Bride & Groom) the two small vases of sand on the table here, filled by your mothers symbolize the two separate families that raised you, the separate lives you led till now. I ask that you each take one vase and fill the center vase representing the intertwining of your two lives. May your lives be joined for as long as it takes to separate the grains of sand. (after reading returns to seat)

You can get colored sand at any craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. It's pretty cheap!

Was looking at this because of another thread and thought I'd give it a bump :)

As someone mentioned yes pet stores, or other aquarium suppliers will have many colors of sand, and it's not that pricey in small amounts. This was actually one of the first things that came to my mind, because we are fish people :D

Found this link online to a sand wholesaler. Minimum order is $20, but if you really can't find the color you need, they have most!

http://sandartsupplies.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Main.Index

If you wound up with excess sand that way, you could always do something fun for children at the reception with the excess. Or use it in other decoration, like centerpieces. Depends on the theme of your wedding.

After we exchanged rings, our officiant said, " Gerri & Bruce will now symbolize the joining of their lives by the blending of the two colors of sand that represent their individuality. The third colored sand symbolizes God in this union.

We used light blue, navy blue, and white. You can see in this picture, I have the light blue, Bruce has the navy blue (it kind of blends in with his tie!) and the officiant has the white. She poured the white on the top and the bottom to symbolize how God surrounds out lives.

You can actually make your own sand like material for this... it is actually very cheap and easy to do. Just pour salt on some newspaper and rub it with chalk of the color you choose.... the salt will become that color and it will look something like colored sand!!!!!

Hope this helps
