Cake topper help

I have been kind of looking for a cake topper over the last few days and have discovered that they are really expensive (I realize many of you probably already knew this, but I was quite shocked)!! So, I thought about trying to make my own but am a little nervous about it. I wanted the monogramed topper, with the bigger last initial and smaller first initials. We saw one we really liked that had double hearts behind the last name initial and it was so cute, but it was also so expensive! I have found the initials for pretty cheap, and they come in either white or silver, or I have found mirrored ones, so I was thinking I could buy those and put my own jewels (I could use the little jewel type things that people decorate cell phones with) on them. I am not sure how this would look, though. I don't want it to look cheap or tacky, and kind of didn't really want to cover the whole letter, just put some accents in it. If pictures would help, let me know and I will try to find the pictures (I have some, but they are on my home computer). I am open to any suggestions either on what I have already thought about it or a totally new idea! Thanks!

I think making the topper ounds liek a wonderful idea!!! If you can find what you need I say go for it girl. I fully lucked out with my topper it cost me something rediculous under $20 and it's Mickeya nd Minnie and I'm just happy about it still lol.
When you get home I know I would love to see what pics you have of your idea. That way I think everyone can chip in on it.
I don't think it would look tackey at all by having the monogram and the jewels. Infact I think it's very personal and not so many people have that or can do that.

ahh I lucked out too :) I found one that I love at Hobby Lobby.... for $7 hehe

Making it will make it very cute, and you can make it just how you want it, good idea!

I think making your own topper would be really creative and make it that much more special. It sounds like it would be very pretty. have you checked out places like Hobby Lobby or even walmart for them? Walmart has some really pretty ones that are very reasonably priced as does hobby lobby.

Sounds great on what you want to do. But did you check out E-bay for the intials and then just purchase your own jewels and dazzle it up?

I lucked out also I got my cake topper at walmart for only $15 it is a bride and a groom embrassing each other and it was exactly what I was looking for and the price range LOL I know I sound cheap but why not.

Maybe someone at a craft store like joann or michael's can help you out - just say you are looking for initials, don't say it's for a wedding (that's my little $-saving tip, although I have a feeling it won't work with gowns!)
