Our engagement
It was a Saturday evening, the 23rd of December. Caelen and I had previously been planning to travel the 80 miles to Rehoboth Beach here in Delaware to see the lights, and eat at our favorite restaurant (The Cultured Pearl) that we discovered two summers ago. I got off work and drove to his house. His family was having a little get-together. After a little talking, Caelen and I climbed in my car and we were off. We took Rt 1 and were admiring the beautiful bright sunset and then the amazingly clear night sky. I mentioned how beautiful the stars looked, and saw a long & bright shooting star fly overhead. I gasped, and of course he didn't see it because he was driving. I probably screamed a little or clapped.. They're really exciting to me. It was after the shooting star sighting that I began to think "..this would be a perfect night for him to do it." We finally got to the beach, parked the car, and had a lovely and refreshing dinner with delicious sushi.
After dinner we went to a shop called Christmas Spirit, and I bought a few bird ornaments and some gifts for family members. We moved the car closer to the ocean, bundled up and went for a walk. We walked on the boardwalk to the end, and walked on the sand. We found a spot about 200 feet away from some night fishermen. We were sitting on the sand, and I did some girly complaining about my clothes getting wet in the damp sand. We sat admiring the ocean, the lights across the peninsula and lights from boats. I love the stars, so I decided to lay back in the sand and watch them twinkle. He laid back with me and we talked about the stars, were trying to figure out if a few of the moving lights were satellites or something else. I wanted to believe they were aliens in UFOs, but he didn't think so. I said, "Ok lets watch for shooting stars and every time we see one we'll kiss." He agreed, and I said "So pray for a shooting star!" And as we watched, not 10 seconds later a small moving star shot across the sky for what seemed like a mere inch. I gasped and said "Did you see it!?" He said "yeah!" and I leaned over to kiss him, but really I was too excited and was laughing and giving him a peck on the lips at the same time.
This is where I started to think he was really, actually, for real going to propose to me. He was shaking a little, and blamed it on it being chilly out. He was extremely untalkitive which is something I notice as him not being completely normal. I couldn't stop talking from nervousness and my mind flying through thoughts a billion miles a second. I finally told myself to be quiet. He was quiet too, and here is when I begin thinking "Do it now, do it, do it, c'mon do it right now.. now... now, do it now." Caelen said, "I adore you." and I said "I adore you too. I do." He turned to be on his side, and he said "Do you want to be with me for the rest of your life?" At this point I don't remember what I said because my heart was pounding and I couldn't think straight. I know I said yes somehow because he said "Me too.." and we laughed.. because he was saying he wanted to be with himself forever haha. He said "I mean I want to be with you for the rest of my life." He moved his hand into his pocket and pulled out the box, popped it open and whispered sweetly "Will you marry me?" I felt amazing. I smiled and said "yes." He put it on my finger but I couldn't see it in the dark of night. I just laid back for a second and was in shock a little. Then I came out of my little shock and rolled half on top of him and kissed him hard and giggling and he was laughing.
I told him I couldn't see the ring and he pulled out his cell phone so we could see it. I took one look at my 14k white gold, half carat round diamond with two diamond accents and I said "DANG!" It's the perfect most beautiful ring. The diamond he chose is perfect and everything was perfect. We talked a little about how we are each others fiance, then got out of that chilly air to the warm car where we spent the next hour being the only people who knew we were engaged. It was exciting joking about how I wasn't going to tell Lynsie but just show up wearing the ring and when she, if she ever, notices it, we'd be like "Oh, yeah, we got engaged." Hahaha. We didn't call anyone, we simply went to his home. The next morning I had to get up at 6am to go to work. I told all of my co-workers and some customers before I told family, friends, and most of all - Lynsie. I took my break around noon and decided I couldn't stand it any longer. I called her and said, "Lynsie.. I have something to tell you, and it IS what you think. He asked me last night." And to my surprise Lynsie said, "OH MY GOD SAMANTHA ME TOO!" I said, "What?" And she said "NOAH ASKED ME TOO! LAST NIGHT!" So of course we were squeeling and I said "Oh my god" more times than anyone has ever said it. I was in such a shock I couldn't think of what to do with myself. I was very happy, even more happy, to hear my best friend had also gotten engaged the same night I did. It was perfect, even more perfect. Everything was perfect.. and even better than I could have imagined.
