View Full Version : Practical jokes ... what do you think of them?

This kind of thing is most common with men, but some women do it too ... my husband and one of his co-workers just pulled a pretty elaborate practical joke on another co-worker (apparently they do this kind of thing all the time) and it may have gotten out of hand (the guy is mad now).
I have always thought that men seem to have way too much time on their hands to do things like this. Sure sometimes it is funny, just like that stuff on "Jackass" is mildly amusing at times, but in real life I wouldn't want to be a part of anything like that and I sure wouldn't want to be friends with people that liked doing these kinds of things all the time!
I also don't care for April Fools day jokes or those TV shows that play jokes on you and/or try to scare you, it is just not funny to me. Why does someone want to do that to someone? Let alone someone they are suppose to care about!
If someone was to do something stupid to me I would have to seriously reconsider being their friend.
So what do you all think of practical jokes and such? Remember to play nice and respect everyone elses opinion!

Fine as long as it doesn't go too far
That is how I feel about them. I agree that the ones where people try to scare you to death are not worth it at all.
And I HATE HATE HATE HATE the movies "jackass"...what mental midgets they must be! I mean really, deficating in a hard ware store's toilet, come on now!! That is just plain disgusting!!! While yes, some of there stunts are ok, most of them are just plain disgusting. But I did get a laugh out of the one where he put cars in his....ok we won't go there. Lol.
Anyhow, all in all they are ok. But I think we have to be careful about who we play jokes on and how they will react. Or if the joke takes it too far or not, KWIM?

Yeah I guess it really just depends on the joke and the people involved (i.e some people play jokes to be mean and some people can't take a joke)
I suppose you could consider a fake spider on someone's desk a practical joke and I guess that is harmless enough. But if someone had a real fear of spiders I think it would be wrong do something like that to them.
What DH and his co-workers did was to photshop this guys car (he was out of town on business and left his car at the shop) to look like it had been vandalized. Then they emailed him the picture along with an elaborate email blaming it on one of the other guys that works with them (that apparently he doesn't get along with) So the guy starts calling his insurance company so they had to break the gag to him and he gets mad ... he didn't call in for work all day and they had to apologize. I don't know what else happened, the guy is suppose to be back in town on Monday.
I just think they took it too far, I mean what if the guy snapped or something? I don't know maybe I am just being too sensitive.
ETA - I have to admit that I watch Jackass sometimes ... most of the time I am just shocked at what they get away with. I also can't believe they can stay friends with all that they keep doing to each other. They do some pretty stupid stunts that could get them seriously hurt or killed too! And I certainly couldn't imagine being the wife or GF of one of those guys ... I don't care how much money they have! Some of their milder stuff is entertaining though ;)

Yes I guess they did take it too far but it was kinda funny to a degree really. I guess if maybe they had emailed that and then sent another email in a few saying that it's just a joke. I don't know how I would be feeling about it either though. I lvoe my truck and couldn't handle that for sure! lol
As far as the whole "jackass" thing goes. I cannot imagine eating or doing half the stuff they do. It seems like half (probably even more! lol) the show they spend vomiting which really grosses me out. However when they shoot things at each other, it's ok! lol. (can you tell I have a weak stomach?? lol) and a few other things are mildly entertaining, but I certainly cannot stomach watching most of it. As soon as I would see them eating something or doing something that I knew would end up in vomit, I had to leave the room!! Lol.

Yeah, maybe I should clarify the extent of the 'vandalized' car ... they made it look like the car had been set on fire or something. It looked pretty real, burned inside and out, if it was real it would have been totaled.

I have to say that just as long as it is not taken that far then I don't mind. Sadly I always am getting them played on me. I guess people find it very funny when I react.
Ex. I hate mice ect. So one April Fools I was going to the bathroom I never get to go to the bathroom alone anymore LOL my daughter the cat or one of the dogs always are yelling or scratching at the door. So my daughter claims she needs to talk to me and my FH bangs on the door and opens it and says OMG Tina there was just a mouse that ran in the bathroom. OMG! I started screaming jumped up and was banging on the bathroom wall with my pants around my ankles and still peeing. YUCK! He started laughing and said look at that I caught a beaver in the bathroom. I found no humor in the stunt at all and was very upset for a couple of hours. But he promised never to do it again and apoligized for it. Yah I do look back at it now and laugh very hard about it but at the time I didn't think it was funny at all. My son also enjoys catching snakes and then watching me run out of my shoes. The little snots.

I don't mind a practical joke now and then, but I wouldn't like it if it was taken too far.

I think they can be fun but sometimes people take them too far and they arent fun anymore. I also think that as long as people arent getting hurt either physically or emotionally (making fun and such) then they are okay.

LOL no thank god I do have a sense of humor and it was about 5 years ago so I am able to laugh about it now. But I still get very embarassed about the whole situation when it does come up.

I remember one time years ago when my first husband pulled a stunt on me. Now it is somewhat funny but at the time I could have killed him. I was in the shower late one evening and I heard someone come into the bedroom. (bathroom in our room). I yelled out and asked if it was him. He had been gone and the kids were in bed. I got no response from him at all. A second later the shower curtain was ripped back and some man (my hubby, but couldnt' tell) was standing there with a huge butcher knife and pantyhose over his head to disquise his face. I fell down into the shower begging for my life and the kids. I was crying screaming and everything you could imagine. I think my heart stopped. Finally after what seemed an eternity he pulled the pantyhose off his head and started laughing. I found no humor in it at all. He however thought is hilarious.

OMG! that one is terrible I am surprised that you didn't get seriously hurt by the fall in the shower. I can't say I would ever laugh at that joke.

I have a since of humor, I just don't think scaring someone like that is funny, but that is just me.
I would probably be able to snicker about it after 5 years and I would forgive them as long as they don't do anything like that again. But I would still not be happy that it ever happened to begin with.
.... But I still get very embarassed about the whole situation when it does come up.This is one of the reasons why I don't like this kind of thing. Why would you want to do that to someone you love and care about? Sure maybe if it was someone that got on your nerves and you wanted to sort of teach them a lesson. But even then I'd be too worried about the pay back and probably wouldn't do anything. I try to live by the old "treat others how you want to be treated" I'm sure I slip up from time to time, especially around others that don't treat me right, but I try.
The only 'trick' my husband ever played on me was a couple of years ago on April Fools Day (the year we got married actually) He was late coming home from work and he said he bought a car. I was upset because I thought he did something like that without talking to me, plus we had talked about not spending any money until after the wedding and honeymoon. But he said "April Fools" right away. I told him again how I didn't care for that kind of thing and wondered why he choose then to try something like that since he had never done anything in the 6 years we had been together!
No it wasn't a big deal and I am not holding a grudge, I just wanted to be sure to stop that kind of thing before he ever tried again.
Last year my brother's girl friend said she was pregant on April Fools, they almost broke up over it!

Yeah, no! Something like that would have crossed a line big time for me!!!! I would have had to have a long and serious talk with my husband for that one!! Not funny at all!!

I'm not a huge fan of practical jokes either...some of my in-laws (who shall remain nameless) decided to pull one on us as we were leaving the reception...needless to say birdseed hurled (not tossed) by bowl and bag-fuls at close range hurt....some people aren't smart enough to distinguish between funny and down right rude...:irked:
As for the Jackass Movies...my DH got the second one and started to watch it this weekend...I was not happy...so he turned it off.

OUCH that is wrong and not funny at all with the bird seed.
As for the Jackass movie I can tolerate that one better than I can the Dudson's movie that is just wrong in so many ways. My nephew got it for his b-day he is 15 and all I can say is that I don't even think a 15 yr. old should watch that one. It is unrated and it should be rated R or higher in my opinion.

OMG! These are terrible! I am really glad no one I have ever known has been a big prankster and I would never do anything like that to anyone!
Tresia- It's a really good thing that you didn't jump out of the shower fighting and seriously hurt or killed him! That is by far the most shocking "joke" I have ever heard and so not funny.

My FH LOVES to play pratical jokes on people. He even went as far as sending a subpeona to his brother in law. To this day BIL has no idea and I'm sure this isn't over.
He even tried to get me with one this past summer. Too bad he tells me about all his jokes and his aliases. I saw right thru it. Not to mention he kept asking me if I was going to get the mail. As if something was waiting for me.
Some how some way he'll get his! (and I'd love to be a part of it!)

Lol I know! I mean where is the entertainment in a bunch of "jackasses" (lol) being stupid anyhow. I just don't get it. I mean why is ruining your esophogus from throwing up everytime you film something worth it!!!!!!???? I don't understand. I mean my SIL bought the first one for my brother for Christmas and I wanted to ask what kind of a mental midget has my brother become!!
Treasia's story reminded me of the time that Matt scared me while I was in the shower not too long ago. I was so close to slipping and falling that it wasn't even funny!! I scare easily and all the people who know that LOVE to scare me!!
However Matt is more afraid of mice then I am. So one time in our old old old house that had mice, we were standing in the kitchen and he was right by the table, and I yelled out "OMG, ANOTHER MOUSE!!" and he literally jumped on teh table!! lol. It was halarious and it was great to get back at him because of all the times he scares the snot out of me and his mother!!
When I was a child, my cousin and brother were always pulling this garbage on me! My brother would lay down in old tire tracks and my cousin would come running screaming that Justin had gotten run over!! And since I was young I'd fall for it everytime. Or there are the times where we'd be playing in the barn and I'd hear a loud thump and htey'd call me up to the loft and say he was swinging on this swing we had up there and had fallen off and broke his neck! YEAH!! Not funny!! Is it any wonder I resent my brother quite a bit. (But I do still love him! lol)

Lol I must admit that is quite funny!! But I would certainly not let my child or teenager for that matter watch that!!
Oh I hated it when Justin and Clayton used to do that to me, playing dead infront of a 4-9 year old. Not cool!!! I actually don't have a relationship with my cousin largely inpart because of it!!!!
