I guess it's my turn to start an after wedding journal. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Kacie. I am 24 and I got married to the most wonderful man in the whole world on December 30, 2006. Here is a picture of us that I really like.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/stdklt11/honeymoon1.jpg
We live in Hardin, Texas. I am recent college graduate who is currently looking for a job. I still need to do some teacher certification on-line stuff, so I actually am not yet certified to teach. I will be very soon, but it looks like I will not be teaching until the coming up school year. Anyway I have to find something to supplement me until then. Justin sales large farm equipment for John Deere. We currently rent a home, but we are going to be in the market to buy probably within a year or maybe a little more. The first large purchase we are going to make is a new car for me. I want an SUV, probably a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Ford Explorer. We got $2000 at our wedding, among other gifts, and that is going toward a down payment. We are looking to purchase a vehicle after I get a job and we probably want to save another $1000 or so. Then we also have the trade in on my car.

Tomorrow is back to reality. On the other hand, reality has changed for me even more so than being married. As most of you know I just graduated, so I am not returning to school which has been my reality for some time now. Tomorrow I start my first day on the job hunt. I am just looking for something to hold me over until I start teaching. I have my interview with the certification people on Thursday and if all goes well I will be accepted and and I'll start looking for a position for the upcoming school year. But I do need something to do until then. I hate it, but I will probably be working retail just because I need flexible hours.
Today we started finding a place for all the gifts and extra stuff we've acquired. All the wedding stuff is still at my mom's, but I want to make a wedding display in the living room. Maybe I'll go over there tomorrow and look and see what I want.

Hopefully the job hunt will be over today. I have an interview at 3:00 at one of the department stores I applied at. I really hate the fact that I am going to do retail again. (I know I've said it a million times.) It's kind of dissatisfying that I would make less a year if I were to stay there for that long than what I paid a year for school. At least I know it's only for like 5 months until I will start teaching. On Thursday I have an interview with the teacher certification people and then the certification stuff starts in February. As soon as that is settled I can apply for teaching jobs for the Fall. I just keep telling myself it's only for 5 months.
I hope I get hired because we could use some income from me. The sooner I start working the sooner I can get my new car. I haven't worked in over a year now because of a hectic school schedule. I also hope that they don't have a training class until next week because I would like to have this weekend off. We'll see though.

Good luck on getting your retail job, I know it probably isn't the best thing that you want right now but as you said it was income and that is really great you are out there searching.
Good luck on your teaching interview, I am sure you will make a wonderful teacher!! I might have missed it but what age did you want to teach??

I am getting certified as a 4-8 generalist which means I can teach any subject as long as it's at the 4th through 8th grade level. Being as that I have an animal science degree I would rather teach science. My certification classes will all be on-line and start in February. Some alternative programs allow you to teach while you do the this part, but the program I picked after I did not get the first teaching job I interviewed for back in October does not. There's not much open in the middle of the year anyway and this program will payroll deduct once you start teaching so it's not as much money up front. That is why I picked it.
Anyway I got the job at the department store. I will be working in men's wear. I don't know for sure when I am starting. I have to call back tomorrow to see. They only have one other person hired so far for this month and they want to get a few more hired before they can start their training class. So it's looking like it might be next week.

Congrats on the new job! Landing in the mens department is great IMO. I worked in retail for a while and was in womans and babies. I they get messy so quickly and is always busy. The mens department always seems empty and normally stays pretty organizes. Hopefully it's like that for you. Will make if easy for ya!

I've done a lot of retail in my life. I've worked in ladies, children's shoes, men's another time, and ladies accessories. By far my favorite was ladies accessories, but they didn't have an opening there. I agree that men's will be better than ladies. I just can't wait until I can start teaching though!

It's soo amazing once you start doing a job that you went to school for. It seems though that because I have a degree in psych/social work, and certified as a sex therapist, that i'm getting all of the sex offenders...
It's been tought to listen to thier stories because I want to hurt some of them.

I bet that is hard to listen to them.
I do have an interview tomorrow with the certification people, so that is a step in the right direction anway. I actually used some of my gift cards from the wedding to buy a new suit for it. It's such a nice suit! I would have never been able to make myself pay so much for it if I didn't have those gift cards! Thank God for gift cards!

Totally love giftcards too!!! Best gifts in the world :)
Good luck tomorrow. You'll do great. It getting harder and harder to be a teacher. Do they have that test down there too (the one where teachers have to pass every 5 years in order to teach?) How about the MCAS test?!?
I don't understand why it's so hard to be a teacher and find a job! Teacher are desperately needed

We have to take the EXIT test. I am on a little different route than most people. I could have minored in education while in college, but I decided I wanted to teach when I was almost finished with my degree. That is why I am doing an alternative program.
I have to take an on-line class that last from Feb-June. As soon as I am accepted I can apply for teaching jobs for the upcoming school year on an emergency/probationary certificate. Next school year I will teach just like a regular teacher, but I have a mentor teacher that I have to report to. The money for the program will be payroll deducted, but other than that I get the regular salary and benefits. That is for one school year and then I will have a regular certificate after I pass the EXIT just like any other teacher. There are other alternative programs that work a little differently, but this is the one I decided on.

Today I got so much accomplished. Yay for me!!! I talked the insurance people about getting a policy with Justin and I and got a quote. Justin wants to check one other place, but it's hard to get him to actually do something. I also got a life insurance quote and renter's insurance quote.
Then I called Dillard's and they still do not know when I will be able to start training. :( I also called David's Bridal about wedding dress preservation and cleaning. I had checked at one of our local cleaners and it is much less expensive through them. I think I am probably going to go with the local one.
I also stopped at the grocery store to get some stuff to make cheese soup tonight along with a pork roast. I need to try out the recipe because we have lunches the third Sunday of every month at church. January's theme is soup, salad, and sandwhiches. We'll see how it turns out! Justin and Trae (our roommate) do not mind being food guinea pigs.
I finished the last of my thank you notes!!! Yipee! Then I put them in the mail!!! I'm on a roll today and it's only 2:30!!

So my job called me and I will be starting Friday morning. I don't anything past then. I would assume we will be training on Saturday too. They are kind of doing it differently. Usually they do it in the evenings and it is more days because of less time. So I don't know when I'll actually be working the floor. I would guess Sunday or Monday. I hope Monday.

Yeah, but that's retail for you. Every day is basically a work day. Like I said, I hope we actually don't have to work the floor until Monday. That would defiantely be better than having your first real work day on a Sunday. Gosh that will suck if that is the case. But you have to do what you have to do.

I was going to ask what you have to do over with you to qualify as a teacher but uve answered it lol When i finish my BSc i would then have to do another 3 yr course before being properly qualified but the second two years of that would be spent similarly to what you have to do - work in school and have a mentor. Thanks Valmai! If I were to have gone the traditional route I would have gotten a degree with a major in whatever subject I was going to teach and minored in education. The last semester would be student teaching where you are in a classroom with another teacher, but you don't get paid. Justin did that and it took him 4 1/2 years. Most people I know it takes about 5.

Thanks Valmai!!!! I think it would be cool to teach in China or anywhere overseas.
My interview went well. Thank goodness they have the on-line class option because it took me an hour and 20 minutes to get there and traffic was horrible. They said they mail out the paperwork in a week so I'll know something then.

I have to go back out there 2 more times I think. I will have to go to an orientation and then when I complete the classes I have to go take the test there. So I just have to do the on-line assignments and have them completed by May 6th, but I can do them faster if I want.
Anyway, I got through my first day of work. It was really just training. That is why it only lasted until 3:00. Tomorrow I work 9:50-6:00 so those hours are pretty good hours. You don't have to get up that early and you don't have to stay there very late. We'll see how I like the actual floor work. The training was boring as trainings usually are, but at least we were able to knock it all out in one day instead of 4 evenings which is the way they usually do it.

Just after I finished that last post I went out to the garage because we have a freezer out there that we keep meat in and I wanted to get some meat out for dinner. We have a game room that was the garage, but then they added the other garage. There is a space in between the game room and the garage and that is where I put my two cats' food and water.
They are mostly outside cats, but I let them come in from time to time or when the weather is bad. My female cat is more indepedent and sometimes I don't see her for a few days at a time. My male cat is a homebody and is either in the garage or on the porch. (We keep the garage cracked on the bottom just enough for the cats to get in there all the time for shelter and what not.)
Well Lilly was in the space/room in between the game room and the garage. I picked her up because she likes to come inside sometimes and lounge around. That is when I realized the had a gash in her side. I think a dog must have gotten her. So I rushed her to a vet's office. My vet couldn't get her in so I had to go to this other one that I really don't like. Anyway she is there now. They are going to keep her overnight and shave her to see how the wounds look. My dad or brother is going to have to go pick her up tomorrow. Justin has to work until 12:00 and I have to work until 6:00 so we can't get her because the vet closes at 12:00 on Saturdays.
Hopefully she will be okay and it will not cost me an arm and a leg. I'll have my dad call them in the morning to get her status and then I'll call him on my lunch break.

Thanks Shawna. I don't think it's serious enough to have any amputations. It looks like she'll need some stitches and some antibiotics from what we can tell with all of her fur still on. They might do an x-ray to make sure nothing is broken.
Poor girl. She is good at giving me grief. She is the same cat that went missing on me back in the summer. I swear that little kitty knows how to cause her mamma to worry.

Lilly is doing fine. She has a very bad hair cut though and it costs us $112. LOL. She has a few puncture wounds and is on antibiotics and some other topical medicine. She is staying at my parent's house for a few days because the weather is going to get bad and I was planning on bringing them in anyway, but I don't want her to be around my other cat. I don't want them to do anything to upset the wounds. It's best if she is by herself right now.
Yesterday was my first day to work the floor at work. It went pretty well. I was surprised that my feet were not hurting that bad. I thought I was going to have to get used to standing all day again, but it wasn't that bad on me. I am off today and Monday. I have to work Tues 9:50-6:00, Wed the same, Thurs and Fri 12:00-9:00 and on Saturday I have to do inventory so I work 8:30 PM to whenever we get done.

At 4 this morning I woke up because Sadie (my dog) was sick. She was vomitting and had diaherria. It was pretty awful. She was very sick. It was freezing outside, but I sent her out for a few minutes. It was also raining so the poor thing got wet. I wrapped her up in towels to dry her off and then wrapped her up in blankets. I let her sleep in the bed with me then. I guess it was just a bug or something she ate because when we got up at 9 she was okay. I was going to take her to the vet if she was not better.

Sadie is doing much better. I figured when she started begging for food while I was eating my lunch that she was totally recovered.
It's really cold outside today and will be for the next couple of days. I brought my hibiscous inside last night and just a minute ago I covered up some of my plants. I think 2 of them are already gone. I couldn't get a sheet to stay on them so they are probably going to die. :( I'm not a big fan of Spring because I know it leads to the most dreaded time for me: Summer. However, the one thing I really love about Spring is getting to do my flower beds. I love my flowers! I just hope my evergreens out there survive this cold snap.

I couldn't even keep an evergreen alive! Gardening is not my specialty. Probably because new england weather is extremely unpredictable...there, I'll blame it on New England..haha

Most of the time I don't even have to do that much for them. It usually rains enough for me to not even have to water them. I usually do my watering through the summer months, but very little in the winter. The cold may get them though. These plants can't take it when the temps drop below freezing.

Well I am sitting here waiting for my car to warm up so I can go to work. :irked: I don't really want to go, but who does?
Luckily the ice missed us last night. We were in between two bands of precipitation, but we are under an ice storm warning starting at 6 this evening through 9 tomorrow morning. Then the chance of ice goes away because we start to warm up again. Right now it is dry, but pretty cold. I am thankful I don't have to drive to work with ice on the roads. The town that I went to college in did have ice. They actually cancelled school at the university today. I bet my friends are excited about that.
Justin is transferring some money today so tonight I can register for my teacher certification classes Yipee!!! I start that on Feb. 5th or 6th (can't remember). I am so looking forward to that so I can finally have a career and not just a job!!!!

Well, I'm a little late at chimming in here but I'm glad Sadie is better. I wish I could do more gardening but I can tell you PA weather is quite unpredictable. This winter has been closer to a Texas winter than a PA winter..Although I'm not complaining. I can see why summer wouldn't be so much fun in Texas with all that heat and the humidity too. It usually doesn't get too hot up here in the summer but as crazy as the weather has been lately nothing would surprise me!! Anyhow, I hope your plants make it through this cold snap!!!

We have icey conditions today. The roads are icey, signs, plants, lots of stuff. My car is warming up right now. There was ice all over it. You don't see that very often here. Frost is common, but not ice. It is supposed to warm to 38 today though, so it will melt.

The ice is all gone!!!! Some of the people in the northern counties and still up in Austin and Dallas they are having problems. We are above freezing and will only get down to about 35 tonight. No more ice!!! It also stopped raining for now, so that always makes it feel better. I do think the rain is supposed to come back tomorrow though, but it will be in the 40s.
Right now I am waiting on Justin to get home with a pizza. I really hate it when he stays after work to "hang" with the guys. Then he comes home and in 30 minutes he is asleep on the couch. He hasn't done this in a few nights, so I guess I'll let it slide. Last week it was almost every day. I was getting tired of it and I told him about it too. I guess he has gotten used to doing this since throughout the wedding planning I was gone so much working on that plus school. Right now I just know I'm hungry!!!

Kacie, I know how you feel. Jon's leaving this weekend and going to NY with "the guys" from his sword fighting class. They have testing Sunday night but are leaving Friday night and gonna have some fun before the rank testing. Lately he's been going out more for drinks after work which I don't mind at all (So long as he's home at a reasonable time) But a weekend away from me?!?! He's done this kind of trip in the past but...he's married now!! Maybe that's what bothers me now?? Most of these guys aren't married, some are though. I dunno...Sorry for stealing your thread...Here take it back :)

To both of you and your hubbies going with the guys and hanging out and going for weekend trips etc....It stinks sometimes because you want to have that free time together. It's great that you let them know how you feel about it. I don't know what it is with guys and their "guy" time...Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know I've been there to!!

Yeah this morning I told him I was irritated that he came home late (which was only 8:00) but the deal is he goes to sleep so early. I told him I have to work until 9:00 today and tomorrow so he'll be sleeping when I get home. We can hang out on Sat, but I was planning to go get my hair cut and a few other primping things before I have to do inventory Sat night. He is going on a business trip to Florida on Sunday and will be gone a week. I think I'll just hang out with him on Sat and go get my hair done on one of my days off next week. I would like to lay around and watch movies all day or something because I have lots of work to do into the wee hours of them morning with inventory. I need to rest.

The job is going alright. It's not much to it really. Last night it got really boring. I have to close again tonight. To my utmost surprise when I got home last night (at 10 PM) just was actually awake!!! I think he probably made an conscious effort to not fall asleep on the couch! I was so surprised! He actually got in bed soon after I got home, but he talked to me for about 30 minutes without falling asleep! It was so nice!

We had a very nice day together. Sadly it had to end a bit early because his boss's dad died and he is off to go to the viewing. He just left a few minutes ago. I have to be at work at 8:30, so I have plenty of time to catch up on here before I have to go in to pull an all nighter. Blah!
I haven't been around much because I am getting used to the whole working thing and I bought a wonderful book that I have had my nose in for the past few days. I just finished it before getting on here, so I'll have some more time.
We started out the day with breakfast at the cafe across the street. It's always slow there and the service is really not that great, but we got there fairly often. It's just a country cafe, not even that good unless you are talking about the pies or the chicken fried steak. It is called Simply Country. Then we went to Wal-Mart to get a few things, then to Palais Royal. I shopped around a bit looking at the sales clothes and Justin didn't even complain. I didn't find anything I couldn't live without except a pair of black tights that were only $3.
After that we went to my parents for a couple of hours and then drove around looking at some of the houses that Justin has seen for sale in the newspaper. One of the houses was really cute (a fixer uper with lots of potential at least looking from the outside) and I would be interested in looking at it, but it does not have enough land. We really need enough room to bring both of our horses. To bad because the price was good. We actually could probably afford that one right now. We're not seriously looking though. If the right thing came up we would jump on it, but there's no rush.
We spent the rest of the day watching tv and me reading my book. I should have napped, but I didn't want to miss any moment of the day. Now it's too late to even bother. I have to work tomorrow at noon. Hopefully we will get out of there by midnight or so. I hope it's not much later than that, especially considering I have a 45 minute drive home.

Inventory was horrible! It is not the scanning part that is so bad, it's just that I didnt get home from work until 4:30 AM and then I had to get up at 9:45 AM to get ready to go back. I'm just really tired this evening.
When I got home last night, well technically this morning, Justin was on the couch sleeping. I woke him to get into bed, and then he had to be up at 6:00 to go to the airport. I talked to him earlier and was going to bed early.
When I got off work I met my parents and we went out to eat at Chilis. I had a strawberry margarita and I really needed the drink. I am off tomorrow. I am going to get my hair cut. Justin doesn't know that I am doing it. I'm not telling him until he gets back. I don't think he'll be too happy about it though, because he likes long hair. I am going to get a cute little bob.

I LOVE my new hair cut!!! I think it's probably one of my favorite cuts I've ever had, and I have had many cuts. I will get our roomie to take a pic of it when he gets home from work this evening. It was also a bonus because I had a gift card and it only cost me $50!!! My stylist is pretty steep, but she was the one who fixed my hair after it was butchered a couple of months before the wedding. I have been going to her ever since and she is a great stylist so I don't mind paying for it.

I have some sad news to report. My grandmother passed away this afternoon. The funeral is set for Saturday at 2:00. Justin's flight gets back to Houston at 2:00 on Friday and we are going to leave as soon as he gets home. It is about a 5 hour drive to where she lived and where the funeral is going to be. It's north of Austin.
I am off on Friday, but I am going to have to take Saturday off. I was supposed to open. I don't know if I am supposed to work on Sunday or not yet, but I will have to take that off too. We are not planning on coming home until Sunday afternoon.
This evening I went with my mom up to her office to help her tie up some loose ends before she has to take off of work tomorrow and Friday. Then I had to make hotel reservations and start washing clothes. I have to pack for myself and Justin because he will not have time to pack for himself.
Friday my MOH is having her a c-section. I picked up her up a cute little outfit for the baby. I was going to go to the hospital since I am off, but I will just have to go visit her next week sometime instead.

So far I have gotten my driver's license changed, my bank account (debit card, checks, credit card), Dillard's credit card, and since I was married when I started my job it has been Hamilton from the get go. I still have to change my social security card, but they told me I have to wait until my license gets here. I also have a savings account at another bank I need to change, my student loan, and Verizon account.
Oh, and nobody has called me Mrs. yet. Just Kacie all the time. Oh, except in an e-mail. A lady from the teacher certification called me Hamilton, but she used Ms. instead of Mrs.

Thanks Treasia! Today I got another step taken in the after marriage process. We finally got our insurance done. We are now on the same auto insurance policy and we got renter's insurance and Justin insured his horse trailer. I don't know why we never got renter's insurance before. I never knew it was that inexpensive and we get a multi-policy discount on the auto insurance because of it.

Well, you're almost done with the name changing requirements. That's odd about the SS card, all I needed for mine was the marraige license. Strange that they would have different rules too, considering that it is a federal program. Well, good luck with the rest of your changes, and congrats on all that you have accomplished, Mrs. Hamilton!!!!!

Hmmm maybe I was misinformed about the SS card name change. My driver's license should be here any day now, so I will wait for that anyway. I have to do it on one of my off days anyway.
Anyway I got the first half of my pro pics here. They're great! I love them so much! For some reason downloading to photobucket is very slow with pics off of a cd. I'm working on them and will get them up as soon as I get them downloaded. I currently am working on 2 right now. It'll be a long time before I get up all the ones I want to share.
Today was a great day! I went to church, but Justin decided he didn't want to go :purplex:. That kind of irritated me, but oh well. At least he did finally move this fire pit thing that has been sitting in the only dry place left in the whole driveway. Thank God he did that. Now maybe I can walk to my car in my dress shoes without getting them all muddy while the rest of the driveway dries. I don't think it's supposed to rain for the rest of the week so that's good. I swear for the last 2 weeks it has rained non-stop. It finally quit on Friday.
After church I met my friend at the mall. I don't get to see her very often because she lives 45 minutes away and has 2 kids and she's a teacher. Her husband is a coach and that keeps them pretty busy. Plus now I work weird hours being in retail and before I was in school. I am hoping to maybe get on next year at the school she teaches at. That would be cool.
We had such a good time walking around looking at things and talking. Then we had lunch and saw a movie. It was such as nice day.

Yeah this is my 5th one. When you are under 18 you get a new one every year. So I had one at 16, 17, and 18. Then I didn't have to get another one until I was 24, but then I got married 4 months after I turned 24 so I needed another one.

Wow!! lol the only reason why I have gotten so many pics is cause I had to get one when I got my learner's at 14, a different one at 16 when I got my DL, and then the rest cause I have moved so much. THis last one is the best one so far!! Lol.
Thats crazy that you have to get so many pics but I am sure there is a good reason for it right?! :)

I'm not sure if they do it that way anymore for minors. Used to when we were under 18 we had to take a profile pic instead of a pic faced forward. At 18 you got to face forward. Now if you are under 21 you get a license that is different shaped. I'm not sure if they still have to take so many pics or not. This one I have now does not expire until 2011 which will make 28, well actually on my 29th b-day it expires. But I'm sure I'll move between then and now so I'll get another one.

I'm just sitting here waiting until it's time to go to work. I have about 30 minutes until I have to leave. I have been working on downloading some pics and working on my teacher certification stuff on-line. It is going really well. It's not hard, but a lot of busy work. I am enjoying it and my instructor seems to like my lessons I've designed.
Work is extremely boring right now. There aren't many customers and I can't stand just standing there all day. It makes me want to work harder on my teacher stuff so I can get out of there!!!
Anyway I was off yesterday and Justin is off every Sunday so we had a nice day. We went to a crawfish boil!!!! I love love love crawfish!!! It is very early in the season so they were pretty small, but good still the same. Beer and crawfish are the best! I ate so much my fingers are still sore today! LOL!
I have to work on V-Day, but Justin is going to meet me and we are going to have dinner. I get off at 6 and he gets off at 5, so he'll have plenty of time to get over there. I don't know what I'm going to get him yet. He said that he doesn't want anything. A typical guy response.

Oh crawfish are SOOOOOO yummy! Glad you had a nice saturday!!

I am glad things are going well with certification class. How long does that take?
Kacie_bride
02-19-2007, 11:42 AM
Melissa, the on-line certification will be over in early May. I have a year internship, but I am pretty much like a regular teacher during that time. I just have a mentor and get observed more than a regular teacher. Not too bad. I'm actually glad I went this route instead of the traditional certification becaues I don't have to student teach.
Anyway I haven't been on much lately. I am working a 7 day in a row stretch and I have been working hard on my classes. I have been really busy and really tired from them both. I have to work today until closing. Switching back and forth between opening and closing kills me. Just a few more months though!

No, May is not too far at all. I registered to take my TeXeS exam today. That exam is the content portion. I have to take a professional test next year, but this is just content. I am taking it on April 14 and I have so much information to cover. Since I am a generalist I am tested over math, science, language arts, history, etc. I am printing out the 200 and something pg. study guide and it seems pretty difficult. I am going to get someone to help me with the math because it has calculas and trig. I've never taken either of those.

Some exciting stuff has been going on the last few days and I have been too busy to post any of it!!! First of all, which is the best thing, I was off today and I am off tomorrow!!!!! Yipee!!!!!! The only bad thing is Justin only works one Saturday a month. Well it so happens that tomorrow is his one Saturday to work. :( It's a bummer, but at least it is only half a day.
I sat in a junior high school all day today and got some observation hours in. It is the same school that I used to sub for. Some of it was pretty interesting, some boring. I am glad that I got a big chunk of my hours done all in one day.
After school got out I met Justin and we went to test drive a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I really really liked it. My car is basically on it's death bed. It's only a matter of time before it goes. It's a 1998 Mustang that has 188,400 miles on it. To sum it up, it's a piece of poo. I drove it all through college and my brother drove it his last two years of high school. I really don't understand how I got a hand me down from my younger brother, but anyway. It's even starting to sound like a put put mobile. Even when it's clean it doesn't look good.
We're negotiating a price with them right now. I also want to check with my credit union because I know I can get a much better interest rate with them than the dealership. The trade in value for my car was quoted as $1800 and we are going to put $4500 down. However, some person (who I think is really stupid for wanting to do this even if it does benefits us) may be willing to buy my car for $2500. Justin even told him, because he works with the guy, that it is a piece of poo. The guy wants a car for his high school daughter.

Oh and I almost forgot!!! We are moving!!!!! We are going to start packing this weekend and the move will start next week. Our house has been for sale forever, but now they are in the process of negotiating with someone. I know they made an offer and our landlord didn't like it. He countered offered, but that's the last we heard.
Justin had already looked at the place, but I looked at it today. It's an old house that looks kinda rough. However Justin is going to pressure wash the outside before we move in. (Our humidity rate is so high around here that houses mildew really bad.) The new landlord also said he bought paint for the outside because it's chipping pretty badly. Once that is finished it will look decent.
The inside is pretty cool. It has all hardwood floors except in the kitchen. I'm not crazy about the linolium in there, but I can live with it. I also don't like the carpet in one bedroom. It's really old, but I can live with that too. The floors in the living room, 1 bedroom, and dining area are awesome!!!
The best part about it and is the real reason why I decided we would down- grade our house is the outside. We will now be able to have our horses come live with us!!!!! We'll have a barn and pasture. There is even a covered round pen!!!! The barn needs work too because nobody has lived there since before the hurricane and there was some damage done. After it gets fixed up and some dirt hauled in it'll be a great barn. It has a tack and a feed room and hay loft. There is about 5 horse stalls and two paddocks.
Another thing that was a big factor the fact the landlord doesn't mind my dog being inside. So many places we had inquired about said no pets.
We'll also have a two car garage and a car port. We are only going to be paying $400/month.

Kacie_bride
02-25-2007, 12:24 AM
Yes $400/month is very cheap. It's a very old house though. The landlord is 77 years old and he was actually born in the house. We pay $700 right now so that is going to be a big decrease in rent. Hopefully we'll like it. We will probably not be in there for more than a year or so because we're going to buy in the next year or two. The next big purchase we need to make after we get me a new vehicle is a new truck for Justin probably some time next Fall or Winter. His is old too, but it is not in as bad of shape as mine is.
My car went even further down hill today. I was pulling out onto the highway and it started making an awful noise. I turned back around and went back to my parent's house to have my dad look at it. He says the exhaust went totally out or something like that. Luckily my brother is in Dallas so I can drive his truck to work tomorrow. I really hope this deal with the Jeep works out. If not we'll still have to find me something else within the next couple of weeks anyway. I wish we could wait until the income tax comes in because we are getting back $3000. I just don't think we can wait that long.

I had to work yesterday, but Justin, some friends, and my parents started on our new house. It is going to take a lot of work, but the landlord is pretty much letting us do what we want. We go buy the supplies and he takes the cost out from the rent.
We are starting with painting the inside. Yesterday the living room, one bedroom, and the room we are going to use as the office got painted. We are going to get some of that stick down tile stuff to redo the kitchen and bathroom because it is pretty bad in there. We are also going to paint the kitchen cabnets red!!!!!
I also can't wait until the outside of the house can get painted. The paint outside looks so bad!!!! The inside where we have painted looks a million times better though. It's kinda fun fixing it all up!

My family is taking it well right now. I think it is going to bother them when he actually leaves for Iraq. The hardest thing about it was two weekends ago. His best friend got married, and the Army wouldn't let him off to come. He was supposed to be in the wedding. Justin stood in for him. My mom started to cry at the reception because one of the GM said Travis asked him to do a toast for him. It was sad!

No word on the job yet. I didn't expect to hear anything about it today though. I was hoping to hear something from the job I interviewed with last Monday. It was for a 6th grade writing position. Truthfully I would rather have the job I interviewed for yesterday. It was a 5th grade reading position.
I want to know how long I have to sign the contract after a job is offered. I mean, if I got offered the 6th grade job I would want to wait to hear about the 5th grade job first. I hope I would be able to do that. Then I wouldn't want to turn the 6th grade job down, and then not even get the 5th grade job. Hopefully something comes up either way.
If I don't get either of these jobs, there is is a job fair on the first Monday in June. There is going to 50 school districts there. I have already made arrangements to be off of work, just in case.

I don't know what it is like in Texas but around here the school boards have to vote on hiring a teacher before a job is offered. The board meets every month even during the summer but it still takes a long time.. I think they let the propspective teachers know that they have been chosen for a vote but it still is time consuming..Good luck sweetie I really hope you find something soon!!!

From what I've heard from other teachers around here, you usually are presented with a contract as soon as they offer you the position. I've not heard of it going in front of the school board.

Oh gosh, I would love to chat with you Treasia!!!!
I have news of news, if that makes sense. This afternoon I was at work, and I went to check my messages while I was on a break. I had a message on my phone from the school that I really want to work at. It is the one where I got called back for a second interview. The principal just said to call her tomorrow because she needed to talk to me. I suppose they've made their decision. I tried to call back even though she said to call tomorrow. Nobody answered. I'm assuming they left early because tomorrow is the last day of school.
On top of that I got a call this morning from another school. I have an interview set up with them at 9 tomorrow morning. I'm going to call the other principal back first thing. If I am offered the position I will still go to my other interview because I don't want to turn down anything until I sign a contract.
I am interviewing for a 5th grade science position. I would rather teach reading, which is what the other job is, but I do have a very strong science background. I just hope I am offered the reading job.
So I'll let you guys know either way tomorrow. After the interview I am going to go get a manicure and pedicure. I just love doing that! I also have to stop at my vet and buy flea medicine and heart worm preventative. Geez, pets are so expensive!!!

Today is a good day!!!! This morning I went to the interview, which went super well. However, I called the other school back and the principal wanted me to go over there at 1:00. She asked me to bring my test results with me. I got there, and she offered me a job!!! Instead of teaching reading, she wants me to teach science/social studies. I would rather teach reading, but I do have a science degree. I am really happy, no matter what I teach. It is still 5th grade. It is science/social studies, but it will mostly be science because the kids are tested in science (TAKS- Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) in 5th grade.
I got to met the teachers in my team that I'll be teaching with. I also got to see my future classroom. It is great because the two ladies in my team, (one is teaching language arts and the other is teaching math) are both very seasoned teachers. They will be there to help me, and they seem very nice!

I'll probably be on here more after the 25th. That is my last official day of work! Justin and I decided I would stop working earlier so we could go on a few trips this summer. In service starts on August 16, so I'll have plenty of time.
That is so neat. I hope you have a fun and relaxing summer. Then you'll be all ready to work hard in the fall!!! LOL

I have one more week left at work!
I don't really have words to describe this last week. It has been an emotional trip to say the least. Monday was normal, but Tuesday I was woken up by my friend at 7 in the morning. She called me to tell me she is pregnant. I told her congratulations, but I do worry that it's all happening too fast. They have only been together for two months or so. They are now getting married in August. It bothers me because I worry about them, but they are both adults and it is up to them to handle it. It is up to me to be supportive and happy for them. I'm glad they're happy and I wish them all the best.
Tuesday evening we got some tragic news. One of Justin's friend's little boy was killed. He was only 7 years old. He was kicked in the head by a horse. Even though I wasn't very close with this family at all, it still really bothered me. It is always tragic when a child dies, but when you do know the family it's much worse.
Then on Thursday Justin was coming home and it was raining. He lost control of his truck and went off the road. He is fine, but it really bothered me.
So anyway, last week was defiantely not the best week. I can only hope this one is much better!

Oh dear that sounds like a nerve wrecking week! I'm so sorry to hear about the accident and the little boy getting killed that is so tragedy.
As far as your friend. You are a good freind for being supportive to her and not lecturing her or confronting her with the are you sure?? I'm sure she's getting a lot of that elsewhere. I can agree with you on being worried. Just because a baby is going to be born it doesn't mean a wedding has to come right before or right after the baby is born. I know some people wouldn't agree to this but sometimes the added stress of marriage and thinking of the future makes things even harder to deal with. I also have been in the position where I got married 5 months after my first son was born and I wasn't married very long so my view on this subject is a tad biased.
Anyhow, I hope the best for your friend and I hope they can fall in love with eachother and the baby. Hopefully, things will all work out for the best in the end!

Thanks Jonelle.
They asked Justin to be a GM in their wedding. I actually was suprised I wasn't asked to be a BM, but I didn't say anything about it. She was a BM in my wedding and we are very good friends. I know just because someone is a BM in your wedding it does not automatically make you a BM in their wedding.
Anyway she called Justin one evening and said she felt bad about not asking me to be in the wedding. Justin said it wasn't a big deal, which it's not really that big of deal. I hadn't even said anything to him about it. She said the reason she didn't ask me was because she didn't want to ask us to spend that much money. She said she knew things were going to be a little tight for us since I will not get my first pay check for teaching until September, and I already quit my other job. I wouldn't have worried about spending the money, but oh well.
I think the problem can be Justin at times. He likes to make it out like we have no money sometimes. I mean we are not rich by any means, but we make ends meet without any problems.
I just would have liked to have been in their wedding. Oh well though. I'm in another wedding in November. I'm sure they'll be more too.

Yeah, I read about that. That sucks. I'm not upset with her. I'm more surprised, I guess, than anything.

I just wanted to update anyone that is interested. I know I said I would be on more since I am off for the summer, and I haven't. I have decided that I will be spending my time on-line now over at the baby raising site. Justin and I are going to start TTC in a few months, so my interests are more towards babies than weddings. I just started a journal over there today. Good luck with the weddings ladies!!!! :D
