Dieters, This is for You.

There are some simple and scientifically proven ways to kill your cravings. You can stop overeating today – and for good - with these tips from Woman’s World magazine. They come from the book, “Thin For Good” by Dr. Fred Pescatore.

First, get the CD player out and enjoy a little dinner music. But don’t grab your Justin Timberlake CD, put on some Michael Buble or some Norah Jones. Anything that contains 100 beats per minute or less. Research from Johns Hopkins University found that people who ate while listening to slow music ate 25% less. Half the folks who ate listening to fast paced music asked for seconds – but none of the diners who ate while listening to relaxing music did. In fact, they left food on their plates and reported feeling fuller than usual.

Another great tip to stop your bingeing: Think pink. Numerous studies have confirmed that color has an effect on us physically and psychologically. And the color pink suppresses the appetite. Why? Because looking at the color relieves tension – which is the number one hunger activator. In fact, it’s so effective, doctors at Johns Hopkins weight control clinic give patients squares of bumble-gum pink color to carry around with them. It helps control the patient’s stress related snacking.

Get 30 extra minutes of shut eye at night. That’ll cut your appetite by 40%! Studies show, that’s the amount of extra food people typically eat when they’re tired. Because when your body is tired, it thinks it’s time to fuel up so you can get some quick energy. That’s why you reach for sugary, carb-heavy foods.

While I think Women's World is a less than reliable font of advice (Just my opionion). I can confirm that my doctor advised me to get enough sleep as well. People really do eat more when sleepy to compensate.

It is also a proven fact that people will move according to the pace of music, there have been many workout related studies regarding pace in relation to music; so I have no doubt it would effect the speed at which you would eat as well.

As for the pink, that is for each individual to determine if it works for them. They would also have to eat when stressed for that technique to be effective so if you don't turn to food when you are stressed that one probably wouldn't matter.

Also, Women's World may have compiled the article, but the music and the pink studies came from research at Johns Hopkins.

Interesting!

I know that when I workout or clean up around the house I listen to loud heavy music and it keeps me moving. I have never thought about the opposite with food. I think one of my problems is that I often eat too fast (I just feel like I don't have time to waste I guess) ... too bad I don't like slower music ;)

I don't know about the pink thing, I have heard studies about how color effects your moods in other ways though, so I guess it is possible.

I have been doing ok (could do better) with my resolution to eat better and work out this year. Well see what happens ;)
