Ok, Here is my problem.........
Everytime I try to pick the wedding colors, my wonderful FH decides to change them or at least rolls his eyes and asks me if I HAVE to use "those" colors. Im ready to put the final touches on my plans so I can spend the next 6 months making those plans happen.
I want dark green (hunter?) and a lighter green (lime? or maybe even an olive?) but what color can I put with those that will go with the "wildflower/garden" theme Im using thats not too girlie? My dress is an ivory color, so that will be in there a little bit. We talked about dark purple (eggplant) and he wanted to change that to maroon (I dont like maroon). I have used paint swatches trying to come up with another color and just cant do it. Every color seems too "prissy".
Im hoping yall have some ideas that can help me come up with something that "he" will approve of.
Thanks Ladies......yall are the best!

I like the eggplant idea.. Also there is a shade of yellow on your ticker that would look good with those other colors. Good luck!

I would say if you do the hunter and olive green to either think about a buttery yellow or a golden yellow or a medium dusty shade of purple. You will want to avoid anything with a red cast because it will remind people of Christmas.

This might be too girly for you guys, but when i read your post i thought a bright pink would be cool! Not alot... just little touches of it. Like pink flowers with lots of dark greens and bright greens.
Good luck finding a colour that works for you.

Is there some where that I can "play" around with different combos? I mean put different colors together and see what the look like?

Get yourself a color wheel. They're not expensive. I got mine in the craft section at Wal-Mart.

Do you want colors that are monochromatic (the same color, but a different value -- lighter or darker shade), analogous (the colors that are adjacent to each other on the wheel), complementary (the color directly opposite your main color). You can also make other combinations using a triad, or a rectangular or square tetrad (making a triagle, rectangle or square with your main color as one point).

Paint chips are good, but they don't show all the possibilities.

With the colors you're thinking of (hunter and an olive green), I would suggest going analogous, (adding a nice yellow), or purple (more eggplant, not grape).

I had someone give me an idea of adding yellow and a bluish color, and go with sunflowers as the main flower and something that kinda looks like bluebonnets for the bouquets and centerpieces. With lots of greenery, this actually looks good. Ive seen a few flower arrangements with the sunflowers in it, but where could I go to find more?
Thanks Ladies!

Oh and I am trying to locate one of those color wheel things, just cant find one in the itty bitty town I live in or the itty bitty town I work in.

And Lacey, your right.....I am definitely trying to stay away from the "Christmas" look. I didnt realize that with me wanting to use so much green, that a LOT of things end up looking a little Christmasy.

Why are you going for not girly colors? Is this at the urging of your FH or your choice? Wedding colors are supposed to be girly! Find two colors you love most, and give your FH choices for a complimentary color. Make sure he is a part of it, but he doesn’t need to dictate.

Have you thought about doing just all greens and ivory? I think that would look very chic and clean. Just an idea to play with in your head.

I am trying to locate one of those color wheel things, just cant find one in the itty bitty town I live in or the itty bitty town I work in.

I can e-mail you a picture of the color wheel if you want. Just send me your e-mail address. My color wheel, or "color selector" as this company refers to it was made by EK Success. You can go to their web site at http://www.eksuccess.com/ and use the Store Locator to find a store near you.

Wedding colors are supposed to be girly! Every bride's (and groom's) preferences, likes and dislikes are different, so their wedding choices, including colors, should reflect that. If someone likes and wants 'girly' colors (groom's opinion counts, since it's his wedding too!) then go with these colors. Black and white are classic wedding colors, and there is nothing inherently 'girly' about them.

My FH is a factor in me not wanting "girly" colors, but hes not the biggest one. Im just not really into the "lace and ribbon" sort of thing. Maybe thats why I having such a hard time planning a wedding. I want this to fit who we are and we are very laid back outdoorsie people.
Lacey....actually I am toying around with just doing the greens and ivory. If I do, I can totally work around those colors. My FH said he just wanted another color besides green. He said the other night though, that hes been told by numerous people to just shut up and show up and he says hes starting to get the hint. I really dont want him to do that yall, I really like him being involved with this.
Thanks for all your help Ladies, I just feel like EVERYTHING has to be put on hold until we figure this out. Isnt that stupid?

Here are some ideas I found for green and white/ivory weddings. I really like the idea. I think you could make it look very casual or formal. It will still look fresh and clean. I also think that yellow and green or orange and green would look nice. If you are interested in more pictures of any of them let me know.

Lacey, those were some really neat ideas! Thanks. You didnt have to go though all the trouble, but I greatly appreciate it. I reall y liked the different bouquets. I was thinking of just doing a lot of different white-ish flowers with greenery.

No problem at all. I have a free period for my last class of the day so I just have to sit here and wait for the bell to ring so all the little darlings can go home. Then I get to come home. I don't ahve much to do after I sweep and mop in a little bit so I'll poke around on some other sites.

OK......I sat down with my FH last night and we worked on the wedding color thing. He used wedding plans to try and distract me because I was close to having a nervous breakdown. My oldest son had a skateboard accident yesterday and had to get 28 stitches in his leg, but thats a thread all on its own. :?
Anyway, we have it narrowed down to 2........One is dark purple/eggplant , sage, with a little bit of hunter. This is the original colors we had worked out.
The other is based on our birthstones, opal (mine) and turquoise(his). I really like this one but I wanted to look around and see what was actually available in those colors for us to work with. I didnt know how hard it would be to find ribbon and tulle and such in these colors.
What do yall think?

Oh I hope your son is doing better. That sounds nasty. Remember, kids are tough. I see them doing thing when I chaperone events at work that me really rethink Darwin's Theory on Evolution because if those ones survived through the ages what were the ones that got thinned out like?

Anyway I like the idea of sage eggplant or turquois and opal. You won't be able to find an opal color but there will be plenty of shimmery white/ivory options out there. Good luck.

My colors at my first wedding were dark purpe and hunter green and they look very nice together. I have a girl at work who is getting married a month before me and her colors are light purple ( lilac kinda i guess ) and a light green ( mint they call it think ). Mine but lighted. I think it will look nice together. She actually got her colors from the fabric i have for my girls dresses. Those are 2 or the 6 colors they are wearing.

Hope your son is better soon. I have a 15 yr brother who drives my mother nuts. My sister and I were always fine, no broken bones. He on the other hand has broekn every bone i think lol.

Thanks yall! My son is doing ok. His leg is a little sore today but that was expected. Hes 12 and Im hoping he will make it to 18.
I kinda figured the opal color would be hard to find, but I will still look before I make a final decision. Im checking out several different places and I will let you all know what I find out.
