Does anyone have a good recipe for alcoholic egg nog? I have never had it before and Mom is going to make it for me this year. What type of alcohol do you use. I have heard rum and brandy. some even say whiskey...

I don't like any sort of egg nog, but I did find these recipes from the Food Network:
Old Fashioned Egg Nog Recipe
courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 2003
1 quart milk
1 cup superfine or confectioners' sugar
1 vanilla bean, split in half lengthwise and seeds scraped out
12 large eggs*, separated
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups bourbon
1 cup brandy
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Chocolate shavings, for garnish
In a large saucepan, combine the milk, 1/2 cup of the sugar, and vanilla bean and seeds and bring to a gentle boil. Remove from the heat.
In a medium bowl, beat the yolks until pale yellow and thick, 2 to 3 minutes. Slowly pour in 1 cup of the hot milk, whisking constantly. Pour the egg yolk mixture into the saucepan with the hot milk, whisking. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a heavy wooden spoon, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 5 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down against the surface to keep a skin from forming. Refrigerate until well chilled, at least 4 hours or overnight.
In a large bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks start to form. Slowly add 1/4 cup of the sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
In a large bowl with clean beaters, beat the cream until thick and frothy. Add the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and beat to soft peaks.
In a large punch bowl, combine the chilled egg yolk mixture and the bourbon and brandy. Fold in the sweetened whipped cream, then the egg whites. Refrigerate until chilled, 30 minutes to 1 hour.
To serve, sprinkle nutmeg over the top and garnish with chocolate shavings. Serve chilled.
*RAW EGG WARNING
Food Network Kitchens suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly-cooked eggs due to the slight risk of Salmonella or other food-borne illness. To reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly-refrigerated, clean, grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell.
Dad's Egg Nog Recipe
courtesy Dave Lieberman
4 cups half-and-half
2 cups whole milk
Dash allspice
1/2 cup sugar
5 egg yolks
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup spiced rum
Combine the half-and-half, whole milk, allspice and sugar in a large saucepan and heat until steaming.
Whisk the egg yolks in a small bowl and ladle some of the hot mixture into the bowl while whisking constantly. Then whisk the tempered egg mixture back into the remaining hot liquid. Stir until mixture coats the back of a wooden spoon, then place immediately into an ice water bath. Once it has cooled down to room temperature, add liquors and chill. Serve very cold.

INGREDIENTS
4 egg yolks
1 (5 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups milk
4 egg whites
1 fluid ounce rum
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg DIRECTIONS
In a large mixing bowl, beat egg yolks until they are thickened and light. Gradually stir in condensed milk, sugar, vanilla and milk. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then add them to the milk mixture. Stir rum into the mixture (to taste). Garnish with nutmeg.I got this off allrecipes.com
everything I have ever tried their usually turns out good
This is a great recipe but if you are scared of the bacteria here is a simple solution. I did my research and found that the bacteria lives more in the yolk and is not as likely to live in the white. Wisk the yolks and the condensed milk over a very low heat stirring constantly till it reaches 140-160 degrees. You must have the liquid of the milk in with the yolks or it will coagulate and produce scrabmled eggs. Keep stirring occasionally till cooled and follow the rest of the recipe. It takes a little longer but is just as good. I have 2 small children and I am pregnant so it worked for me.

Ok I make some killer egg nog. Just use the store bought and add 1/2 cup brandy, 1/2 cup spiced rum (captain morgan's) and 1/2 crown royal. Then drink and be merry.

To me it tastes like spiced milk. It is alot thicker though.. about this consistancy of buttermilk. I really like it, but there is alot of people who don't.
I have never liked store bought egg nog. But, a couple of years ago, at Thanksgiving, we made homemade egg nog and it was great. It tasted to me like custard pie. I really liked it. Hope you enjoy. Ger!!

I am not a big fan of egg nog myself but I went to a party once and they put amaretto in the egg nog and it was actually pretty good.
It's the only way I will drink it now!

I am really boring lol, and aparently lazy too lol. With all the Christmas festivities, wrapping, shopping, cooking and baking, I never have time to make real egg nog. So I go to the store and buy a carton of it, and then ad some brandy or sherry to it. I stick in al into a punch bowl and make it look pretty.
I just make sure I stash the empty cartons befoer anyone coems over lol:innocent:
