Well I have been reading everybody's journals this morning and thought I should go ahead and start one. I have wanted to start one for a while now, but things have been crazy with school and work, etc. that I thought it would be best to wait until I actually had time! I still may not have tons of time with christmas and what not, but I couldn't wait any longer!!

We have been dating since June 1999. We met online in March (I think) of that year, I was a Freshman in high school and had just turned 15. He was a sophmore and was 16. We happened to be in the same random chat room (it wasn't like a city chat or anything). Well we started to talk since we were both in Kentucky, then we found out we were both in Louisvill and we just kept talking. Finally, the first friday in May (I remember b/c it was the day before the Kentucky Derby) I let him call me. We talked on the phone for a month, then my mom took me out to meet him while he was at work. I was so nervous! It wasn't anything spectacular, but we were both young and had never really been in a relationship. So after we meet he didn't call me for like a week, which upset me b/c we had been talking everyday. He didn't answer when I called him either, so at this point I was like fine whatever he's not interested after he saw me (I had very low self-esteem then). After probably a week and half he called and said he had just been really busy. I didn't believe him, but it doesn't matter now because here we are 7 years later and finally getting married!

There isn't really a proposal story because we started planning the wedding way before I got a ring. We had been talking about getting married for a while, but wanted to wait until I finished school. Well I am finished as of yesterday (yay for me, finally!!) and we just kind of started planning. I have talked about it on other threads I think but I will go ahead and explain so it is all in one place.

My grandfather, whom we were both very close to passed away on June 25. About a month later, I guess, everybody was sitting around talking about things and the subject of us getting married came up. Well my grandma goes "You guys should get married on Pappy's (that's what we all called him) birthday!" I had always wanted a late summer/early fall wedding and we were planning on Sept/Oct and his b-day was Sept. 15. So she goes and looks at the calendar and it was a saturday in 2007. We were still worried that it was too soon, but 2008 is a leap year so it will be on a Monday. Stephen and I discussed it decided that depending on what job I got when I graduated we would have enough money to survive. I did some research and found out what I would probably be making, it was enough, and we just started planning!

He didn't actually ask or give me a ring until Halloween, b/c he had just started a new job and needed to get caught up on some bills. As soon as he could afford it, he bought it. The exact ring was a surprise, but we had picked out 4 rings that I liked, so I knew I was getting a ring. He gave it to me at dinner, and it was the ring I had secretly hoped he picked! Here are a couple of pictures:

The wedding is going to be in the evening, probably 5. The reception will be at a restaurant/catering place called Mastersons, and we are getting married at my grandma's church. I went there when I was younger, and it is the same church my mom and her sister's got married in, which I think is cool. We are going to have 4 attendants on both sides and I am also having a jr. bridesmaid. There will also be a ring bearer and flower girl (if the little girl can do it, we haven't asked yet). The theme I am going for is simple elegance, with different shades of pink and black being my colors. Once I get home I will post pictures of the stuff we have bought and my inspiration for the cake, flowers, etc.

I think I am really going to enjoy making this journal!! I really like to be organized and I think this will help, but I have a wedding planning binder also. Thanks for reading and I look forward to everyone's thoughts and opinions!

Well Elizabeth I'm glad you started a journal! I love mine and I'm sure you'll love yours as well! I think having your wedding close to your grandfather's b-day will make it even more special! Can't wait to read more!

Congrats on starting a journal. I love reading these. Getting married close to your Pappies B-day is wonderful. So sorry for your loss but what a great way to celebrate in his honor. Your ring is gorgous by the way. I can't wait to hear and see more of your plans.

Sorry it has been so long since I have done anything and thanks for all the posts! The only time I have been on here recently is at work and I don't have any info with me, but I didn't work today so I thought I would get this journal going!

Here is my wedding checklist (bolded items have been done, pink still needs to be done):

9-12 months
Announce your engagement
Choose a date-9/15/06
Determine budget-My dad said to be reasonable and treat it as if I were paying for it, so we made came up with what we thought we would spend and showed it to him and he said it was fine. It came out to be around $9,000 i think, which is more than I wanted but I really wanted the reception site we booked and it is like $4500-$5000.
Pick ceremony site and officiant-we haven't actually booked it yet, but the church is pretty small and my grandma goes there so she says there shouldn't be a problem. we are going to do this in January
Select and reserve the reception site
Start researching caterers if needed-comes with reception site
Start shopping for a gown-barely! we are also planning on getting this done in january.
Start researching musicians and/or DJs

6-9 months
Choose your wedding party
MOH-my sister, Rebecca
Bridesmaids-2 cousins and my brothers girlfriend and most likely FW
Jr. Bridesmaid-FH cousin
BM-FH best friend, Eric
Groomsmen-FH brother, cousin, and my brother
Ringbearer-my 5 yr. old cousin
Flowergirl-undecided between no one, FH adorable neighboor or his
cousin
Reserve caterer-see above
Order wedding gown
Shop for headpiece, veil, other accessories
Arrange for groomsmen to be measured and reserve tuxes
Choose florist
Set aside blocks of hotel rooms if needed, or get a list of possible hotels for
out of town guests-only a few guests from out of town and they usually
stay with my grandma when they come in, so I don't think this will be
neccessary but I need to check
Hire photographer and/or videographer-I think we have one, just
waiting to hear about a sample video before we make the final decision
Begin arrangements for rehearsal dinner
Start researching and planning the honeymoon-we were going to Disney
World, but since we just bought a house we may not go anywhere, or
some place cheap.

Here is the inspiration for the cake. I haven't decided if I want ribbon on the bottom or not, but we are pretty sure it will be square with pink scrolling of some sort, with white buttercream icing. It will probably be three tiered and then we may have a sheet cake decorated to save money. A friend of mine is doing it so it will be cheaper anyway, but with a sheet cake it will be easier for her. Each layer will be a different flavor, as of right now we know one laer will be white, another devil's food chocolate, and I am thinking either another layer of white or perhaps red velvet. We may make the sheet cake red velvet because I don't know if it will be difficult to cover with white icing. I have another picture with the type of scrolling closer to want I like, but can't figure out how to load it b/c I just have it on a word doc. not the internet.

It's been a few days since I have been on because I was super busy the days before christmas. I was helping out at a bakery over Christmas, and I didn't feel well, so I haven't really had time to do ANYTHING! Our christmas was great though. We actually got to spend some time together, wich was fantastic. We really didn't get a whole lot, but here are the highlights:

$175 g.c. to Lowe's
$50 to Sears
$40 to Target
$25 to Wal-mart
(all of which are for our new house)

And the best present of all was my digital camera!! I knew I was getting it, but I have been so anxious for it, ecspecially since I started this journal. Now I will actually be able to post pics and what not without havign to steal my sisters camera or find the pictures to scan. So I hope you guys are ready for tons of pictures coming up in the new year!! I know how much everybody hates pictures ;) lol!

I hope all of you had a wonderful christmas as well!

I thought I would post a few other random things we have decided on and would love to hear what you guys think.

We are having my cousin play the saxophone for our ceremony music. Right now we do not know how many songs he will play, but the song choices are Can You Feel The Love Tonight (from the Lion King), Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, or I Will Always Love You. RIght now the first two are the favs.

Our centerpieces (if I find them or get the motivation/confidence to make them) will be a group of three hot pink/dark pink square pillar candles on a mirror with lighter pink rose petals. The tableclothes are going to be black, maybe with white underneath. This is the inspiration for the centerpieces:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g254/alleyg29/candleswithribbon.jpg

I still may put ribbon around them. My original plan was to have black tableclothes with hot pink runner and these exact candles, but I decided against the runner b/c I wasn't sure how it would look with room (it has burgundy carpet and chairs and I am weird and pink and burgundy next to each other bothers me) so we decided to go with just the pink candles. However, I CANNOT find pink pillar candles anywhere!! I was going to make them, but I am kinda nervous about it!!

I am glad you had a nice Christmas!

Have I Told You Lately That I Love You is my fav. from that list.

I love your centerpiece idea! If you can't find the pink candles that you want you could do the white ones and put bright pink ribbon on them. In fact that way they would really match your cake.

So we are ordering the BM dresses today! I'm excited because, other then my sister, none of the BM have tried on the dress or seen it in person. They have all seen pictures and they are all very easy going about it, therefore I did my best to pick out a dress that 1) looks good on most everybody and 2) can be worn again.

I have also realized that I need to order my dress like ASAP and have no idea what dress I am getting! I have tried quite a few on and know pretty much what I want. There is a dress from David's Bridal that I love and think it would look really good given I have tried on each style aspect of the dress, they were just all on different dresses. Does that make any sense? LOL oh well! So I am going to look again today at another place, but I don't know if I will try any on. I REALLY just want to put on the dress and know it is the one, KWIM? I really hope the dress I like from David's arrives at one of the stores soon-it is a new dress and the stores don't have many in yet. I may just order, pray it looks good (although I am fairly certain it will) and wear it. I am so overwhelmed by this dress stuff right now!! :bbconfused:

I am so overwhelmed by this dress stuff right now!! :bbconfused:

LOL just breathe girl because it's only going to get worse before it's all better :)

My lifesaver was my notebook (I called it my wedding bible). It was far better than my computer because I could carry it everywhere. I sketched in it, stapled business cards into it and even taped fabric swatches onto some of the pages. If I needed a telephone number, I knew where to find it. If I needed to remember my last brain wave, I could find my notes. Organization is the key .... but I am sorry to say, it's still not going to keep you from feeling overwhelmed sometimes - that is just a natural product of planning a wedding.

Best of luck on the ordering of your BM's dresses we just did that last week. I was super excited to. Just breathe and you will find your dream dress. I'm sure of it. Maybe you have already seen it but just wanted to look into other possiblities. Maybe go back to the bridal shops and try on some of the dresses again that you were like ummm maybe.

ITA about the notebook, I had a binder that went with me everywhere. I had tabs and each thing had it's own section, like hall, photog, flowers and so on.

Try not to worry you will find "the dress."

We went and got all the BM fitted for their dresses, but I think we are going to hold of on ordering them until March. The JR. BM didn't go yesterday, but my mom is worried that she will grow to much (she is 9) between now and the wedding so she wants to wait a little longer. She is also worried that my cousin, the matron of honor, who is trying to lose some weight, will lose too much and she will have to re-order her dress. I mean, I love my mom to death but she worries over everything!! There are alterations that can fix most of this issues, and my cousin will probably not lose that much weight. Now the Jr. BM is a legit concern, so we will wait, but it's like everything I decide on she wants to second guess! I know she means well, but this is just her personality and it just annoys me sometimes. Oh well. As much as it annoys me I am very greatful and thankful she is in my life!

I also tried on some more wedding dresses. As of right now, I think I have it narrowed down to two. Well, one and then some particular styles that I will be able try on once David's bridal gets it.

This is the dress we really like. The side has the same beading as the top and there is also two strands all the way down the train on both sides of the corset back
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/lize566/100_1963-1.jpg

And I like this style, but would prefer a halter top and David's has one very similar, so once a store gets it I will try it on. I think it really makes me look like a have a waist. (I have my bra on in these b/c I forgot to remove the straps and I dont like wearing the bras they have there)
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/lize566/100_1971-1.jpg

This one is a chest shot, but I think it makes me look like I have a much smaller waist than I do lol!! Could be the camera angle too!

Congrats on getting the BM's measured. As for the 9 year old's dress. When we went the lady told me for my 12 year old that she will order a dress that has about a 1in grow room in the dress and if she happens to grow more than that the dress can also be taken out another 1- 1 1/2 inches. Also remember that it takes about 3-4 mo. for the ordering process and then you might need some alterations done...

Oh I just love the 2nd dress on you it makes you look like you do have a waist. You look truely beautiful in that dress.

This weekend is going to be all about the wedding!! Saturday we are going to look at more wedding dresses (BTW I appreciate the responses so much!! I really value your opinions!) and then Sunday we are going to a bridal show! I am SOOO excited about going! We still have a lot to do and I really hope that the bridal show will help a lot. It is supposed to have like 200 vendors and two fashion shows! My head is spinning just thinking about it :whoa: lol!! I have read a bunch of articles and tips and such, so I think I am fully prepared-except I need to print some labels, which I assume I can go buy some sticker labels or something? Or can I just put my wedding date on my return address labels? I don't know, but I will figure something out by sunday!! I also can't decide how important it is for FH to go. On one hand, I really want him to be there to give me opinions, but on the other hand he works third shift and I know he will be tired and probably kind of bored but I am probably going to want to stay longer then he is willing to. My mom is going, and FH doesn't really have much to say about a lot of the wedding stuff, so I am wondering if it is worth making him lose sleep to go.

BriansBride07

Sounds like a fun filled weekend. Actually if he won't have alot of say in the wedding planning and he is up for whatever you say, then I would vote for him to stay home and get some zzzz's...

As for the address labels. What i'm doing is I have a creata card program with an address book in there. You can upload everyones addresses and your return address choose the font and then have it printed onto the envelope under another setting it looks very good and it is a whole lot cheaper than having the co. do it for you. IMO it will look better than address lables. Just a thought.

You mean you want to use the labels to fill out info on the forms for vendors at the bridal show, right? If that is the case just take the address labels you have, your wedding date can be easily and quickly hand written. I wouldn't bother making special ones just for the show.

Yes, this was what I meant. I just talked my mom about it, though, and she said we have some labels already and wouldn't take any time to type up something real quick, but if I dont get to it I will just use my address labels, although I shoule use up my address labels since I will have a different last name and address in 8 months!!

So the bridal show this weekend wasn't too helpful. Really all it did was reassure me that the photog and video people I was going to use is a great deal! I didn't win anything :( but it was still fun. The fashion show was really pretty and the kids in it were adorable!! I have a meeting with the video and DJ company today to find out exact prices and see some more videos. Also, great news!! The dress that I think I want, based on previous dress styles I tried on and the feedback I received from you guys (thanks btw!) finally became available at a nearby David's Bridal!! I am going to try it on Thursday, although they don't have my exact size so lets hope that I will still be able to tell. I really hope it looks as good as I think it will!!! Here is a picture

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted! I've been pretty busy, but haven't really accomplished anything lol which def. stinks! We met with the guy who is probably doing our video and DJ service. We really liked the videos he showed us and he seemed very flexible. His price seems very reasonable compared to others in our area, too, so that is really good. It's looking like we will get our photography, video, and DJ for a total of $2000. More than i wanted to spend, but I've done my research and I don't think I can get a much better price without sacrificing a lot of quality.

As I posted in another thread, I have been having some centerpiece issues, but I think we have finally figured it out. Right now it looks like we are going with a brandy snifter with a submerged pink rose and two round votives on either side, all on a square mirror with pink rose petals spread around. Michaels has some square vases on sale, though, so we are going to go look at those and see if we can come up with something, but if not I am happy with our other option.

Sunday we went to another bridal show, but it was pretty small so we didn't really get a lot out of it, but it was fun and FH got to see some ideas for a grooms cake. I have also done some more dress shopping, which has proven to be a pretty big issue! I tried on the dress in the above post and for whatever reason it looked terrible on me! So I thought I was just going to go with the first dress I posted b/c it is simpler and that is what I really wanted. However, I REALLY want to LOVE my dress and I don't love any of the dresses I have tried on. I feel like I need to make a decision so I can get it ordered, but I don't want to settle on just any dress. Just a little background story here-for Sr. Prom I tried on this dress that I absolutely loved, but it was nothing like what I had imagined wanting. There was another dress that I had seen online that I liked, and I let my mom talk me into it, even though I really wanted the other dress. I still regret it, which is silly, but that is why I don't want to settle on a dress. This wouldn't be problem but I have tried most of the dress shops in Lousiville, so I want to go to Cincinatti, which is a 2 hour drive but they have tons of bridal shops, but I don't have any one to go with. My mom said she would go after I got a little aggravated when she tried to get me to just stick with the original dress and I said I would just go by myself and call one of my aunts that lives up there to meet me. I know she is busy, but I wish she could understand. My MOH is my 16 yr old sister and she is busy with sports and a boyfriend, 2 of my bridesmaids are out of town, and my other one has a little boy so none of them are really available to go with me either, but that's not really the point. Even if they could go, I would still want my mom there.

Okay, I'm done! Sorry for the wall of text, apparently I had more to say than I realized! Thanks for reading (if anybody got this far :) lol).

Don't settle on a dress! You don't want to risk looking back with regret, esp. if prom has haunted you this long! I would just go by myself to Cincinnati if necessary. I went dress shopping initially by myself, I think I get more done and have less opinions to deal with. When I found the one I took Mike with me to decide bet. white or ivory, he is fantastic at finding "my colors."

If you want dress opinions, go and take some pics and we'll give you plenty of opinions. LOL :)

LOL I love the fact that you took DH with you!! I showed the pics I posted here to FH and told him to pick and when a good friend of mine found out she was like "Elizabeth I can't believe you showed him!" I'm not superstitous (sp?) and since he is the one I want to look good for he should have at least somewhat of an opinion and I didn't think I would get either of the dresses so it didn't really matter.

If you are okay with him seeing you in the dress, then take him. Some people really like it to be a surprise, but I wasn't like that. I figured he is also my very best friend so I didn't mind sharing that with him as well. Not to mention, all the colors and outfits he has helped pick out get so many compliments. He has a good eye when it comes to what looks good on me. :)

What a good husband you have! I bet you all are so cute together! I would love to have a DH that could help me put outfits together-FH has NO fashion sense lol

Well, we went to Cincinnati on Saturday and my two aunts that live up there ended up meeting us there. It was really fun, although kind of disappointing b/c I didn't fall in love with any of the dresses. There was one that we all really liked, but I think I am still going to go with my original choice, which I have already posted a picture of. It is the first one I posted, and I know all of you all like the second one better on me lol, but the more I thought about it and looked at them, I really think I am going to be happier with the first one. The only thing I am hesitant about is the straight across neckline, b/c the consultant (who was wonderful, by the way) said that it is important to lie the dress from the waist up b/c a lot of shots will be taken of that part, which I was trying to think about wedding pics I have seen and there aren't THAT many waist up shots. Oh well. Anyhow, I keep going back to that dress and the more I think about it, the more I am sure it is the one I want. I am going to go try it on again with the veil, tiara, and flowers so I can really get a feel for it. I am going to look one more place this week, but I am 97% sure that is the dress I am getting. Plus it is only going to be like $500, which I thought was pretty good considering I am plus sized so a lot of them are more expensive.

We have also decided on centerpieces, and I am going to book our photog, video, and DJ people today! I just need to find the sheet the florist gave me, and get my friend who is making the cake to make a sample then all the booking and major expenses will be taken care of! Hopefully I get more done this week, b/c I start a new job Monday, which I am so NOT excited about it, and we are probably closing on our house soon, so there is going to be plenty to keep me busy the next few weeks! I will post pictures of my centerpieces and maybe the other dress we liked (although you guys will probably all like that dress better even though I am not getting it I dont think lol :bbconfused: ).

I think you are being very smart about the dresses. It's first off you and your FH's day and you need to go with what you feel better and like the most. I think your first dress is very elegant. One thing I would like to mention is yes the second dress is a tid bit more flattering but with alterations I think your first choice will look just as good. First off didn't you say you had a regular bra on when trying on those dresses? If so that makes a difference too.

Anyhow, your plans are coming along perfectly and remember sometimes it takes a while to hit you that wow that's the one..At first I was very unsure about my dress and that didn't start until after I made a deposit on it. It took a little but I went to pay the balance off on my gown and it the dress I tried on was hanging right there and I melted and started to get tears in my eyes...It took a long a couple of months and a doubt or two but I finally got that feeling. I think you are being smart by going out and looking just to make sure but for the fact that you are comparing every dress you try on with the first one is a huge sign..

BTW-I wanted my FH to go dress shopping with me and I wanted his opinion...He will tell me if something doesn't look right on me-but he wants it to be this big surprise..Which I understand but perferably I would have rathered to just have had him come along and help me pick out my wedding gown together..

Good luck and I can't wait to see what you decide!!!

I've shown FH the pictures (I kind of wanted it to be a surprise, but he will never remember what it looks like 8 months from now, his memory is terrible lol) so I asked his opinion-he likes the first one. And yeah i had on a reg. bra, and it wasn't the right size and the girl who laced up the back doesn't ever do that, so it wasn't tied very well either. My mom thinks it is the one I really want b/c I keep going back to it. I don't think I will find that one perfect dress unless they make one that makes me appear to be a size 6 lol!! Really though, I felt good in it. I wonder if it wasn't the first dress I tried on if I would have fallen in love with it b/c at the time I was determined to just put on a dress and know it was the one! It makes me feel much better to know that you are happy with dress even though you weren't sure at first! Thanks for comments!

If you continue to go back to it then it probably is the dress you love. As long as you love it and it makes you feel beautiful, that is all that matters!

Well, I FINALLY decided on a dress! I keep going back to the very first one I tried on (I think my mom is kind of aggravated that I tried on SO many and ended up with the very first one, but oh well lol). I wish I had taken a picture of it today when I went back and tried it on, but oh well! Here is the pic again, even though I posted it a few pages back

The only little issue we are having now is the fact that we put $100 down at the dress shop in Cincinnati. This wouldn't be a problem b/c they can order the dress, but we have been to this dress shop in town called Rebecca's and they are SOOO nice and we know Rebecca, the owner, and I have tried on the dress like 3 times there, and after today I feel really bad not ordering the dress from her, ecspecially b/c we are getting the BM dresses there and they will all get a discount if I get my dress there. I think we are just going to talk to Rebecca and tell her the situation and see if she can give us the dress a little cheaper (she told us we would get a discount anyway) and then just lose the $100. It is still going to be more expensive from her, but hopefully not that much more and I think in the long run when I can go there for a final fitting and what not it will be worth.

Oh why can't anything in my life be simple lol!! At least the BM dresses were super simple to pick out!

I started my new job today! I am a manager in training at Kohl's. I am not sure how I feel about it yet-I am new to retail so I think that is going to be tough to get used to, and I hate starting new jobs, but overall it seems to be a job that I will like once I get into it. What sucks about it though is that it is about a 40 minute commute, through downtown so traffic is terrible, and I won't be on here as much anymore b/c they don't have the internet (I mean what kind of business doesn't have the internet but whatever!) and the few hours I have off I will be busy busy busy for a while.

We are supposed to be closing on our house this week, if everything with the loan goes through! I'm excited, it's just my new job kind of takes the excitement away for me. I am also in the process of making some minor details about the wedding-jewelery, my veil, tiara, etc. I will probably be posting pictures tonight or within the next few days so I can get everyone's opinion about them b/c I am having trouble matching them to my dress and what not.

Okay here is the veil I am thinking about. It has the same beading (they are called bugle beads) around the edge that the dress has on the top, the side, and down the back. If I don't get this one I will probably just get a plain veil with like a pencil edge or something on it.

Here are the tiaras I am trying to decide between. My hair will probably be half up or just loosely pulled back at the top. I was thinking about getting the double band and then having my flower girl wear the single band. I want something simple, as my dress isn't that fancy. Also, the first three come in the light pink or the clear beads. I don't know why they are so big-I didnt do anything different!

Well, I have been really busy this week with work and then we closed on our house Wednesday! This weekend we will spend most of it painting and what not.

Now, normally, I am a pretty laid back person, but this house thing is causing all kinds of issues with me!! I don't normally need to vent, but I am pretty aggravated! First of all let me just give some brief background info. His mom, my FMIL, has been great about everything-she has been buying us stuff for the house, she is giving us her kitchen table, and she is helping out a lot fixing up the house b/c her BF buys and renovates houses for a living so she helps him a lot so she has experience doing that kind of stuff.

Now my problem is that she is just taking over and she is TERRIBLE at hiding her opinions when she doesn't like something we have decided on. For example-we have told her we want regular old white viinyl mini blinds for our windows at least 4 times (FH grandma is buying them for us). Well, tonight I went over there, and surprse to me she is there working on the kitchen! So there is the first thing that aggravated me. Then she asks what we are doing for the windows. I was like, We have already said we are doing regular mini blinds. She says are you sure you don't want like the wooden...I interrupted her and said no just plain blinds. I was rude but seriously!! I get that she thinks we should have something else, but I don't care!! I also think I should be told when she is coming to my house to work on it!! Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for her help, but it's my house too and I think I should be involved with what is going on!

I think the major problem is that Stephen is being all weird about my family coming over to help, but apparently his mom can be there whenever she wants. He is sleeping right now b/c he worked a double today, so I plan on discussing this with him, but am I wrong to be aggravated about this? It's hard to really get the picture b/c it's just like a bunch of little things, but I am about done with it!

Okay, thanks for reading my wall o'text! :) I just hope this weekend is fun and doesn't turn into a giant fight!

Jacklynn

I'm really sorry that you are feeling so frustrated. I would be too! It's hard when someone's amazing help, turns into 'their little project' and it takes away from what you want. Maybe you could go ahead and buy things like the blinds because then they are already bought and done with. It is your house, you should be happy with the outcome of it.

I think its a good idea to talk to Stephen about everything. His mom may not realize she is taking over, and its better coming from him then from you because he is her son and even if she is hurt for a short time, it will blow over faster if he breaks the news to her I think. PLUS he should know your frustrations, you shouldn't have to bottle it all up dear.

I hope this is a good weekend for you!

02-12-2007, 08:22 PM
Well this weekend was too bad. We didn't get as much accomplished as I would have liked mainly b/c Stephen decided to strip the wallpaper that had been painted over in the kitchen and (surprise, surprise) it took longer then he thought, so that is what they spent most of their time on. Stephen did talk to his mom about everything, though, and it was all fine. No major events this weekend, thankfully!

So after a good weekend and a pretty good day at work, in which I got to leave early, I come home and preceed to drop my cell phone in a sink of water. Yeah, I'm a genius :/ I am trying to let it dry out, but on a good note, I did put my battery back in and the phone came on and I could do stuff, the buttons just didn't all work, so I REALLY hope it works after I let it dry for a while! I can't stand being without my phone!! I am totally one of those people that is attached to their phone.

It's been SOOO long since I've posted on here! SO much has been happening, I haven't had time, but hopefully things are finally settling down so I will be able to post more. Everything with the house is going good. We had a minor mishap with the water turn off in the bathroom leaking and getting everywhere, including into the floor so our basement ceiling has some water damage and the carpet needs to be replaced, but it's nothing urgent b/c we won't be down there a whole lot right away.

I am trying to get some wedding stuff done, but I am having such a hard time making decisions!! I found a really cute flower girl dress on ebay for like 30 bucks, but I can't decide if I want my flower girl to be able to help pick the dress out or not. We are paying for it, and she isn't a family member so I don't see her very much and she is 6, so I just don't know what to do. I am also having cake issues b/c a friend of mine was going to make it, but I asked her to make a sample cake so we could kind of get an idea of what it would look like, but she still hasn't done it yet so do I go ahead and try to find a professional to make for like 600 or just have her make it for probably 150? I can't even decide what I want it to look like!! I keep changing my mind, but I think if I have finally decided on something simple like this, but with hot pink ribbon and no greenery.

The simple elegance of it is one the main reasons I want a cake like this. Everything is really simple and elegant, and I guess I felt like the type I originally wanted (I wanted scrolling on it, and it that could get pretty detailed) would be too much, but I think that cake would go with everything else really well.

I finally got all my stuff together to take a picture of my centerpieces! They are square vases, to match the cake, which will also be square. The flower will be glued to the bottom so it stays straight, b/c it tends to lean to the side. Also, the rose petals will all be hot pink, not different shades like in the picture. I can't decide if I want them on square mirrors or not, and we may play around with the way we put them, side by side like this, or corner to corner or whatever we come up with. They are kinda big, sorry!

It's been a while since I've posted so I'll fill you guys in on whats been going on. I've picked up my dress and the BM dresses...of course most of BM dresses are too big! I've also picked out my jewelry and tiara, so as soon as my tiara comes in I will post pics of the dress and accessories on. I still need shoes and a veil, but I think we are going to make my veil...I'm a little nervous about that but hopefully it will work out okay. I've also ordered my cardstock and pocket folders for my invitations, so I should be able to start on those soon! The tulle came in for favors a few days ago, I just have to make labels for those. There is still a TON of stuff to do, like order my FG dress (which I am impatiently waiting for them to get back with me on which size she needs, b/c the dress I found doesn't come in a 6X which is what they said she needed, instead the sizes are like 1-14, so I'm not really sure if a 7 wouldfit her or not.), decide on our menu, get engagement pics taken, order tuxes, register, and now I am going to stop listing things b/c there is way too much!

I do feel like I have gotten a lot accomplished lately, though, b/c I am looking for a new job constantly b/c I really need one (I'll save this story for another time :)) and we are still trying to finish our house, which is so close to being done and I can't wait to post pics!! We are having a problem with the house thing though. My sister's boyfriend had told us that we could have his parents couch b/c they are getting a new one, and it is exactly what we wanted so I was so excited. Well we were planning on re-doing the hardwood floors so we waited to get the couch until we finished them. Since then, my sister has broken up with him and now he is being all weird about us getting the couch. They still talk and are friends or whatever, and he said we could still have it, but everytime we ask when we can come get it, he says his dad is busy and will let us know. Well it hs been 3 weeks and he still hasn't let us know so I asked again and he said his dad is getting mad that we keep asking and might not let us have the couch if we keep asking. AAAUUUGGHHH I am so annoyed with him right now. It would seriosuly take like 20 minutes to get this couch, I offered to pay him for it, and we are pretty much ready to move it next weekend if we could just get the couch! The worst part is that we can't afford a couch b/c we spent money on other things b/c we thought we were getting his couch! Well I guess everything will work itself out, but I'm still aggravated and worried we won't get this couch. Although we do have a cushion from it, so I said I am going to hold that hostage so they can't do anything else with the couch lol!

We got our couch last night!! I'm so excited, it finally looks like a home! Hopefully Stephen will be moving in soon, then I will probably move all my stuff in (b/c I will probably stay over there a lot) closer to the wedding, which by the way is just over 4 months away! OMG it's coming so fast! Things seem to be going well with it. Got all my invitation stuff, so now I just need to print it all out and put them together. Before I can do that though we have to decide on the wording-see my Invitation Wording post for my issues with that. We are going to register today so that will be fun! Everything except my job seems to be coming together nicely! Hopefully I will have more time in the next few weeks since the house is almost done so I can post pictures!

We just got done registering (well not just now, b/c I had to tape american idol, so I had to watch when I got home) and there is so much more stuff than I realized! We were gone for like 3 hours, and there is still more stuff we need to add. I've added some of it online, but still. It was fun though!

Thanks! Yes, I have picked a tiara I actually picked the last one b/c the round jewels matched my jewelry, which I will post pictures of hopefully later today or tomorrow. And about the house-yes it is a ton of work!! We didn't even buy with a lot of structural problems, we just painted everything, and i mean everything! We also redid the hardwood floors, the kitchen conters and painted the cabinets. Just doing that kind of stuff along with working and school and trying to plan a wedding it has taken like 4 months! But then again we both still live with our parents so we were in no rush lol. Hopefully you guys get moved in to your quickly and with no trouble :)!

I'm an aunt of a furbaby!! My brother adopted her a couple of days ago from a family that found her on the street. They think she has some hound in her and is 3-4 months old. She is soooo skinny, but is already almost as tall as our other dog who is fully grown, so she is going to be big I think! I'm not really a big dog person but she's very mellow and cute so she's okay. Guess what he named her? Kiki. I was like seriously, thats what you're naming her? My brother is a very goofy 21 yr. old college student so God only knows why he wanted to name her that lol!

The RB, my cousin, who I absolutely adore but is a brat so we are a little concerned but he HAS to be in my wedding. He is almost like my child! This isn't my favorite picture of him but it's the only I have on my computer.

I think him and the FG are going to be adorable walking down the aisle together if they will actually behave! I also have the FG dress but it's also at home so pictures will have to wait.

I am a little aggravated right now! I have always had good luck ordering stuff from the internet, so when I found hot pink rose petals for a pretty good price I jumped on it. The website, allforyourweddding.com, also has FG baskets and guest books that were plain enough and cheap enough that I could decorate my self and save some money. I order like 1000 rose petals and then the basket and guest book for like $50. The order was placed on March 31, the money taken out of my account April 1. Well I STILL don't have my order!!! I have spoken with the so called customer service mulitple times, emailed them, which is the prefered method of communication according the customer service message (of course it is, emails are much easier to ignore!). Everytime I stressed the annoyance of not being updated on my order. The first time I emailed them the response was your order should ship within the week. Three weeks and nothing! So when I called and spoke with someone they explained the sitaution and I understood I simply wanted to be updated correctly on the situation. I mean is that complicated?? Everytime we have spoken they immediatly update then nothing else happens. It's getting ridiculous and I have already paid for it!! This customer service is awful! If I had a customer in this situation who has paid for an order that she still has not recieved over two months later I would give her money back or partial refund or something! Okay, I just needed to vent! I called and once again nobody answered! I'm done now :)

This is my bouquest inspiration. I think I may stick with more dark pink, though. I really haven't decided because I want the flowers to pop against the black dresses and against my dress, so I don't know if I want to go with more of one color or the different shades. The BM will have a smaller version of mine.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a66/linz_grrl/flowers1.jpg

I really like this one too, but with dark pink roses. I wonder if how expensive the white flower things are, though. I think the contrast between the white pink and black would really make the pink stand out. I'm not very good at envisioning these types of things!

The garters are great! I'm not sure which one you'd through though...I think the all pink one. Both of the bouquets are lovely. I think you could easily get away with some artificial stephanotis because they're a really waxy flower and look sort of fake to begin with. I think that a deeper pink would look awesome against the black BM dresses.

I agree, I think the deeper pink would like good against the black, too. How do you guys think the white would look with the pink and black? Would it mess up the contrast? Auugghh I'm terrible at invisioning things!!

In other news my cousin is getting married in June and I am going with his fiance (my Future cousin in law) to try on wedding dresses today. Dress shopping was fun! She has such a cute body so everything looked good on her, but she liked a completely different style dress then me so it was depressing or anything lol. All in all it was very productive. She narrowed it down from 8 to 2 dresses, picked out a BM dress she liked and FG dresses for each dress she liked. Then we went and picked out what I liked for tuxes! I have also called and got prices on getting my invites printed-its gonna be 7 cents a sheet and I can get at least 2 invites per sheet, so with everything I am going to need printed it will probably be around 12 bucks for it all. I thought that was pretty good! I also ordered my shoes. If you have remember from earlier in my journal we put down $100 at another dress shop that we were going to lose. Well they let us use it for my shoes, which were $70 so we are losing $30! I hope they fit and aren't to tall! Here is a pic:

I'm bored and can't sleep!:jpboard: This is probably all a result of not working for the past few days so I have been doing nothing and now I have nothing left to do lol! So I will just post some stuff on here. We have one of my showers planned for July 21. I'm super excited! I'm helping plan a little bit because, well honestly I am a bit of a control freak. I don't mind though b/c it's just like with the games we play and helping come up with dec. ideas and invitations, b/c I was thinking about making them to use up the cardstock I bought for the invites. The games we came up with sound fun, though! We are playing 'how well do you know the bride' and 'famous tv couples' where we give the last names of tv couples and the guests have to come up with the first names. We might play a 3rd game with Stephen where we have to answer questions about each other and whoever guesses how many we will get right wins. Oh and I helped pick out the prizes b/c we got them from Kohls and we used my employee discount, so we got some pretty good stuff like a small birdhouse, and a set of summer glasses for really good prices.

I'm also having a Pampered Chef party July 1. That will be the first time my family will see my mostly finished house so I'm pretty excited! Plus if you create a registry on Pampered Chef and people purchase off of it you get points towards products (so I'm just gonna register for what people know they want then when they buy it I get points and they can keep the item lol), then plus a discount from hosting a party so hopefully I will get some good stuff for cheap!

I know I am going on and on but I'm so not sleepy and I have nothing else to do! I will totally understand if you have stopped reading by now lol! So tomorrow Stephen is off and we have a list of stuff we have to get done. We are going to get his tux ordered. I looked at them today and they don't have the pink that I wanted but oh well we came up with a solution and I want to get it from them b/c we get a discount b/c I bought my dress there. The tuxes are only going to be like $75 (Stephen gets his free, though) which I thought was pretty cheap. We are also going to meet with a cake lady b/c a friend was originally making ours but she is being flaky and it makes me nervous so my mom said to just find somebody and they will pay. It's not worth the worry! But the woman we found qouted us about $400 for a cake for 200 plus a grooms cake, which is more then we need so I was excited about that! That's cheap for this area! We are also going to go get our invites printed. He doesn't know that yet lol but oh well!

This is what I still have to do but it gets to close:
Make my veil
Assemble invitations
Finalize plans with vendors
Decide on a songs for entrance, cake cutting, garter toss, and bridal party dance if we have one
Determine ceremony order and make programs
Get BM shoes
Decide on transportation. We are like 10 minutes from reception, but 30 minutes from home so is it worth paying for a limo? Also if we don't go on a honeymoon would we want to stay at a hotel on our wedding night?

I think that's it. For now. If I think of anything else I'll be back lol :geek:! I really wish I could go to sleep though!

Well we got very little accomplished today. We were going to print the invites but when we got there I realized I forget the cardstock lol! Then we went to look at tuxes. Stephen had already decided he wanted to get tuxes from a certain place, but the place where I got my dress from offered 10 off for each tux and the grooms tux free since I got my dress there, so I wanted to look there. We have a couple of guys who aren't in the best money situation so I kind of wanted to be economical for them, but all the tuxes Stephen likes were way more than I wanted to make them spend. So he said they could just wear a different tux then them. I don't really want them too though. He is already going to have a different color vest and stuff. So went to the 2nd place and it was the same thing. So he couldn't make a decision, not even narrowed down enough that I could help decide or anything. He just could not decide what he wants! Then we went to meet the cake lady, and that was halfway successful. We are probably doing a 4 tiered square cake, with a little different design than what I previously posted. The bottom layer, though was going to be fake b/c we were having a grooms cake and didnt need that much cake but I want 4 tiers. However, now he doesn't know if wants a grooms cake or what he wants on one if he does! Auugggghhh he's being so difficult! And I'm trying to include about the music and what not and he can't make a decision about that either!! And he can't even tell me what he has in mind or why he doesnt like certain things so it's not even like I can look for stuff he likes! Have any of you guys had this problem? He''s driving me crazy! And I have not been overloading him so it's not like he is sick of it we have only been talking about sporadically. Oh but the cake is only going to cost us $325 for everything! And even if he doesn't want a grooms cake I still may have her make a sheet cake to serve instead of the bottom layer to save in cost. We will see, though, Stephen seemed hesitant about the fake layer. Hopefully we get stuff accomplished soon! I want to start tying up some loose ends, you know.

I know exactly how you feel. FH and I talk about something and he tells me how he wants it so I assume that is the way it's going to be. A week later he doesn't like that but doesn't know what he likes and can't make a decision. We've had that problem all along!! I think some of it is that he wants as nice of a day as I do and I'm sure I've done my share of changing my mind. OK more like I have. I'm sure he'll find something more cost effecient for your groomsman that will suit his tastes. Most of the tux shops all offer similar styles and colors..If his tux though is a variation of his groomsman that's not a bad thing. Like you said his vest is already going to be different why not the jacket. Who says they all have to look alike. Plus, you're not dresses as your BM's either. It's just a thought.
We're doing a fake layer too. It makes it easier to cut and serve when you do the sheet cake. I'm iffy too about doing a groom's cake now. Maybe you could surprise him with something. If you don't have one do you think he'll miss it?? I'm thinking my FH won't...lol He'll be way busier with everything else going on that he won't even notice if I decide not to. Good luck with everything. It will all come together trust me I've been there and I will have more moments in the future yet I'm sure!!

lize566
06-20-2007, 10:08 PM
I don't think he would miss it he's not even a big cake person. He actually said he would rather have a chocolate fountain but we can't afford to pay 300 dollars for those. So no I dont think he would miss it, but I also didnt think he would be so picky about what it would have on it if he did have one lol! I'm sure it will all work out, I'm just so frustrated right now! It's natural, I know.

Somebody has bought us stuff from our registry!! I know, I'm bad b/c I looked, but I know me and I know I will look. I'm one of those people that read spoilers for my favorite tv shows, but it doesn't ruin it for me. So I've accepted the fact that I will look-I'm not even going to try to fight it. I still don't know who got me what though so it will still be a surprise. And we haven't even sent out any shower invites yet, so they must've seen it on my website or my mom told them. I'm so excited!!! I'm also excited b/c my moms family is going in together and getting us our bedroom comforter and everything for our shower b/c the whole set is like 500 bucks so that wil probably be pretty much all they get us. I'm excited b/c we REALLY want the set but a little disappointed b/c I know I am getting from them. Oh well, I think I would rather get something I know I want.

I've had a very productive planning day! We found our BM shoes, got half or the ribbon needed for the invitations, so we can get started on those soon, ribbon for the FG dress, my garters came in the mail, I decided on what the grooms cake will look like, and I took my invites to get them printed!

The grooms cake was becoming an ordeal, so Stephen told me to pick b/c he couldn't decide what he likes more -university of Kentucky or corvettes lol-so i could pick. I asked him yesterday if he would be okay with a UK blue corvette and he said yes, so that is what he is getting! And the invitations-it went much better than I thought! I took them to fedex kinkos to get them copied, but what I got there he was like I can cut them too! I was like heck yes! So we got that all straightened out and I am going to get 110 of them printed and cut for like 23 dollars! It would have been cheaper to cut them myself but 10 times more work and I probably would have wasted quite a bit lol! And the BM shoes were WAY easier then I thought. Three out 4 were they, they all agreed, and they were only 20 dollars each.

All in all a very productive day! I can't wait to start with my invitations!

Hallejuah we finally picked a tux lol!!! After 5 visits to 3 different tux places, we finally have a winner! They are all wearing the same tux, Stephen with a solid white vest and tie, the GM in solid black vests and pink tie, and the dads in solid black vest and tie. I'm so glad I can mark that off my list! All we have to do is make sure the guys all go get measured, which shouldn't be too bad, b/c we are going to start now which gives us a month to get them all in there. Now we just have to book our honeymoon, which after much consideration we decided to go to Disney World. We both really want to go there, and we found a "moderate" level hotel for $700 for 5 night/6 days. So with tickets and gas it will be less than $1500! We figure we will take out a lona for about 2000-2500 to pay for it, which yeah probably isn't the smartest money move, but if we don't go now we won't go. And we are only getting married once and we want a honeymoon. So we are going!

In other wedding news my shower is less then a month away!! And I just found out I have another shower planned for August 19th! I'm so freakin excited! But we have to decide if we want a honeymoon registry or not...either way I'm so looking forward to the next 2 and half months! Ecspecially since we found out my brother is still cancer free! Now I better get to bed, goodnight!

Well, almost all the major decisions are are made! We need to finalize things with our vendors, and we have some little things to get done, then we need to put our invitations together and that's about it! The major decision right now is our honeymoon. We really want to go to Disney World. We have created a honeymoon registry, but we can't wait to see what we get to book the trip, so we have to decide if we really want to spend the money. I know we could go some place for a few days for much cheaper, but I know if we don't do this now, we won't do it. But we can't afford to pay up front for the whole trip, so we will have to make payments, which we could do, but I wonder if it is worth it. We both REALLY want to go, though! We are just having a hard time making the commitment to a couple of thousand dollars right now lol. Should we just bite the bullet and do it? It is our honeymoon, and we don't go on trips very much, but still. auugghhh I wish we were rich lol!!

That's kind of how I feel about it. My mom said the same thing. Stephen has never been there, and the only other place he said he would go is Hawaii lol which is not cheaper! The more we talk about it the more excited he gets about it. I guess now we will have to decide if we want to just be safe and go through disney, or book it through some place like expedia. Hopefully we decide something soon, b/c I hate things being up in the air like this!

I have great news!! I got a job! Not my ideal job, but it will do. It's an assitant manager at a pool supply store, and it only pays 9.5 an hour, but it's next door to the job I used to work at, that I am currently still working PT so I probably will stay there just to make some extra money. We still won't have much money, but I will be making enough for the house payment and Stephen makes enough to pay the other bills. Plus he just applied for a Sergeant position at work, and people seem to think he has a good chance, so that will be another raise, and his car will be paid off in nov. so that will be an extra 300 a month! Things are getting better!

Oh and I didn't really post about it here, but we thought my brother was going to need a bone marrow transplant (He doesn't, he is still cancer free!) but my sister and I still had to get our blood tested and we found out today that I am a match for him. Its a relief knowing that somebody is just in case he ever needs it. I'm REALLY glad he doesn't though!!

And we went and taste tested some menu items. We are again having issues making decisions! We just want so many things, but don't want to pay the money! Oh well, we are going to just wait and see what kind of RSVP response we get by then (the menu is do 1 month prior, as are the RSVPs) and then we will decide on a menu b/c we have to have a min. food order and it depends a little bit on the number of people. Does that make sense? Oh well. So that's all that is going on with me. And I am super excited about all the weddings this weekend on here!!

We had our engagement pictures last night! We just went to a portrait studio, but I had wanted something more fun and elaborate, like on location somewhere, but that just wasn't in our budget. The studio we had them done at was really cheap and the pictures turned our really good, I think. I'm excited to get them back! We also finished our registry, since people have been buying some stuff off of them. I know, I'm bad, I check them religously lol!! Oh well, it's not like I know who bought what. Anyways,we put our bedroom comforter set on the reg. and all together it's going to be like $500, so my 2 aunts, grandma, and cousin asked if we wanted them to go in together and get it but that is all we would get. I said yes, but then yesterday somebody else bought part of it from $129! That makes me so excited!! And someone else bought us 100 of stuff of our honeymoon registry!

Now on a less materialistic note lol, Stephen and I had such a good day together yesterday! We went and got pictures done, went to dinner at Chick-fil-a (we had coupons and little money so it worked for us!) then finished both of our registries, then walked around this outdoor shopping mall area for a little while. We went into this chocolate shop and got the BEST caramel apple! It was dipped in caramel, then white chocolate then sprinkled with cinnamon-it was sooooo goooood! But we just had such a good night! We were both in great moods, he co-operated with the registry (last time he either didn't want to put stuff on it, or wanted to put silly stuff on there and I got aggravated b/c he wouldn't focus) except for the $499 PS3 he out on there lol! I told him it was fine b/c nobody is going to by it anyway, but I might delete it in a few days anyway. Oh well! I love when we have nights like that. It just makes me want to marry him that much more! I can't wait!

So I'm bored and I decided to look at my cousins myspace page. Now, I am not super close to this cousin anymore b/ she lives iabout 45 minutes-1hr away and is just really different then me, but when we were little we were pretty close. Well, I asked her to be a bridesmaid, and she accepted. I just read on her myspace that she probably won't be at my shower on the 21st b/c she will probably have to work!! First of all, if she doesn't know for sure se has to work she can still ask off, secondly she has known about this for at least 3 weeks, which gave her PLENTY of time to ask off, thirdly, she is in my wedding she should be at the shower!! Even if she weren't in my wedding I think she should be there, but I would be a little more understanding, but seriously she is my bridesmaid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do I not have the right to expect her to be at my bridal shower? Especially since I haven't asked her to do ANYTHING else for the wedding b/c I know she is busy and lives far away. It just really makes me mad!

If I said anything to her, it would just cause drama in the family. My mom asked my grandma if she knew what my cousin was doing and she didn't know, so I can only hope she will for once put family first and be there. Although, she very rarely puts her family first. I guess we will see.

Aww, well I'm sure everything will work out. I had issues with people not coming to my wedding and finally it was decided that

if they don't want to be there, you shouldn't want them there.

I don't think she'd have any duties or anything at the shower anyways right? Atleast it's not your MoH backing out - she has to keep track of the presents you get :D

Well she didn't like just post that she wouldn't be there, what happened was our second cousin, whom she is fairly close to commented on her page asking if she was going to be at my shower, and she wrote back saying she didn't know, she usually has to work on Saturdays. So that is how I know she might not be there. And yeah, at least its not my MOH, or somebody else important, but I would still like her there. Oh well, everything else is going really good! If she doesn't care enough to take of work then whatever.

So I live in Louisville, KY home of the University of Louisville Cardinals, and about 1 hour from Lexington, home of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. If anybody here is into college sports, namely football and basketball, then you might know where I am going with this. ESPN has occassionally called UL and UK one of the biggest rivals in college sports. It's huge. I mean like some fans don't even care how they do in the tournament as long as their respective team wins the big game. The basketball game is always played like the 2 week of december, so that is when you should go christmas shopping b/c virtually everybody is watching the game. The footall game is usually the first game of the season, but UK sucks and thinks that if they play us (UL) later in the season they will have a chance (can you tell who my team is lol?) so guess when the big game is this year? Yep September 15!!! At 7:30!!!! Pretty much the exact time we will be dancing our first dance as husband and wife! When Stephen found out the game was at 7:30 (FYI he is a huge UK fan, it's fun when we go out sporting our teams gear ;)) he was like so honey I think I'm going to leave the reception early lol! He's not really, but I think some people will. I don't really think it's that big of a deal (I would like to watch it, but not THAT bad lol) it just sucks! My college graduation party was the same day as the b-ball game last season too, and all kinds of people commented. Oh well, you can't always plan your life around sporting events lol!

Well, is there any way that you can get a tv into your reception venue!! That would be AWESOME! Ofcourse I'm a big college football fan! GO PSU!! lol..OUr wedding day is that same day as a penn state home game. PSU is nothing like the excitement of rivarly in kentucky so I won't have anyone trailing off to watch the game..Anyhow, its just a thought..

Ummmm we do. LOL!!! Just had to say that.

Anyways - I agree with Jonelle. Is there anyway you can get a TV at the reception site? That might actually make for some great memories.

As for your BM- two of my BM won't be at any shower (one lives in TN and the other CA). I had a shower in NE and my MOH hosted that one. I might have 1-2 showers here and none of my attendants will be at that one, and I'm note expecting them to. Of course a 2 hr drive is much different than 500, 1500 & 3000 miles away. FH wants to register for an PS3 or Wii, and we might add it on if we're running out of things on our registries.

lize566

I highly doubt we could get a tv at the reception place, and I highly doubt my mom, who is paying for the reception, would let us. It would be more for him then me, though. I told him if someone brought one of those portable tv's or radio things I would not be upset

Amy-lol that's so funny I competely didnt even think about what you guys were doing!! The big difference, though-you are all for the same team lol! We most definitely are not! About the BM thing-I guess it is just as much about her being my cousin and stuff she has missed out in the past b/c she didn't want to make the effort in my opinion to be there. One of my other BM, my brother's girlfriend, might not be there b/c she may have to work, but 1)she just started the job and its at a restaurant so she doesnt know if she can get off on a saturday after only 3 weeks 2) she is not related to me and I've only known her for 2 years. My cousin works at a retail store, has been there for a few months, and should be able to take off work. She takes of work all the time (saturdays included) for swing dancing, which is pretty much her life. It just hurts my feelings a bit, but I will be okay. I understand that work is important and if she really couldn't get off I would understand. Maybe she will be there, we will see. She told me she already bought my gift the last time she was in louisville, which was like 2 weeks ago, but never mentioned if she was going to be there or not. We shall see, I guess!

I was just talking to my mom about it and she said my dad was like well I guess we will just have to have a t.v. and mom was like she is going to have music and everything. Dad said well we can cancel and save money! Mom refused lol!! We think they have a bar area with t.v.'s at the reception place, so people will be able to see parts of it. I just thought it was funny that my dad said that!

I've had a pretty good day today. Lots of exciting stuff in the mail! I will build my way up to the most exciting-first of all, we had to order special envelopes for my invitations b/c we wanted black RSVP envelopes and we had to buy envelopes for the actual invites and those came in today so now we can totally finish the invitations! Hopefully they will be done by Monday! Secondly, a couple of weeks ago I had a pampered chef party and it was huge hit! I sold like $800 worth of stuff which means I got $165 in free stuff and three half priced items so I got tons of stuff! And all of it (well all but 1 box) came today also! Then the best part-we got our first wedding gift today!! It was a card from my aunt and uncle that live in Alabama. I knew they had purchased stuff from my honeymoon reg. but I didn't realize they would mail it so quickly! So we got the card a check for $100! It was a wedding card, not just a shower card, which is the only invitation they have received as of yet, so I hope that doesn't mean they aren't coming to my wedding, but he is a chef and can't always get out of work, so I will understand. I was so excited!! Everything seems to be coming together and happening so fast, I'm getting so excited!

Everything is happening so fast. It's so exciting..I know just how you feel. Last night I thought about you!! I was on you tube looking for interesting bridal party introductions..They had this video of the bridal party introduced as a football team. It looks like they had their videographer help them do things before hand. They had all the BP members introduce themselves as football players in the video. It was really cool. It made me think of your wedding reception and the rival college football game that will be happening that day..I'll try to find the link tonight at home and post it for you, cause you have to see this!
Then, I was looking at some wedding videos on you tube and I saw this processional and they were walking down to cannon in d and I got butterflies and was like ohmigod in a month and 1/2 I'll be doing that and it was just one of those things that hit me.

CONGRATS on getting you first wedding gift!! Time to get those thank you cards out..BTW! I love pampered chef..I love it even more when its free stuff!! Yeah!!!

OMG that is awesome!! Thanks Jonelle. It was a little long, but it was cool! We are kind of thinking about doing something like that, but we probably won't actually get around to doing it, but we would have all the girls be on Louisville's "team" and the guys be on Kentucky's lol. The main problem with that is my brother is a GM but he is also a die hard UL fan would probably refuse to say he was on UK team lol! I don't blame him!

In other news, I got a splinter today, under my fingernail. Like actually competely under it, you can see a dark going about 1/4 of the way down my nail and I can't get it out. It hurts like a you know what!! I don't guess it will hurt me, it's just sore as heck. I REALLY hope it will work its way out soon! My sister was trying to get it out and OMG its like torture! Does anybody watch lost? Now I know how it felt when Sayid tortured somebody (I can't remeber who now) by shoving things under his fingernails-NOT GOOD!!!! lol just in case anybody had any doubt!

I've also checked my registry again, b/c i'm addicted, and people have shopping! I'm even getting stuff that was online only that I wasn't sure I would get. I'm super excited though b/c it is all yellow kitchen accessories like salt and pepper shakers that match my yellow and blue kithcen! I can't wait for my shower one week from tomorrow!

So I found out tonight that my cousin is definitely not going to be at the shower, and she has to work the day of the rehearsal dinner, but she will be off early enough to come. I'm upset about the shower b/c I just feel like she should be there. I don't so much care about the rehearsal dinner b/c she will be there, but she was probably going to go with us to get manicures and pedicures but doesn't know if she will be here in time, and I don't really want to do it the day of the wedding. That is just so much to do the day of! Oh well, I won't worry about it since she obviously isn't worrying about how I feel.

I think at the shower we are going to display an 8 x 10 of one of our engagment pictures, if we have them back in time. I plan on keeping the frame, but I couldn't decide so these are the two frames I bought. Of course, both are prettier in person b/c they are more sparkly lol, but you can get the idea. I originally liked the first one the best, but Stephen and I looked at them again, and wonder if the first one is too much for our house. I still think I like the first one, though!

07-22-2007, 02:10 PM
Okay girls, well here goes a list of what i got! I don't have everything in front of me but I think I can remember it all. I will try to post pics as soon as possible, but they weren't taken on my camera so I have to get a hold of some first!

Toaster
Crockpot with Little Dipper for sauces, etc.
Pyrex casserole dish with carrier and hot/cold pad
Some pampered chef utensils, like spatula, pizza cutter, etc.
Bathroom accessories like toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, garbage can (I got a set for both bathrooms)
My bedroom suit-Duvet cover, pillow shams, bedskirt, all except for the sheet set, which was bought according to my registry but we don't know how bought it and it wasn't given to me yet, which i'm kind of annoyed about b/c I want to put it all on but want to wait for all of it lol!
Garage door opener (from his mom)
$200 dollars
A matching tool jar, cookie jar, towel rack, and tea kettle that all match my kitchen, which is yellow and blue.
And I think that is about it from my registry. Then my grandmother and great aunt each gave me sentimental gifts. My Grandma crocheted an afghan for me. It's beautiful-pinkand different shades of brown and big enough for a full sized bed. It's so special to me b/c my grandma is not in great health and I know it took her so long to make it and I may be the only grandchild that ever gets one! Then my great aunt gave me a little powder music box type thing that belonged to my great grandmother, Elizabeth (I was named after her) and a little note that told me about it. I was the first great grandaughter and my great aunt is sure that she would want me to have it. She only missed my arrival by a little over a year. It was very touching!

So other then my cousin/BM not showing up and her mom being in mad mood about it, and my FSIL not showing up (who did not rsvp or anything and told FMIL she didn't have any money to buy me anything so she didn't go-total BS by the way, but I didn't expect much else from her) everything went really well! We have everthing put away and I am going to start my thank you notes today, hopefully!

Hello Liz! I am also from Louisville and stumbled upon your journal. I am in the mist of helping my daughter and son plan weddings. Yep, two weddings! I, myself and my husband, got married four years ago the 26th of July!

In noticing you are from Louisville and there does not seem to be too many others on this site, I hope you do not mind me asking you a question. What vendors are you using? My daughter is getting married in Lexington, but my son (who lives in TN) is getting married here in Louisville. They have chosen the Ali Center and Masterson's to cater. We are not sure, however, of flowers, music, cake, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have enjoyed reading your journal and your wedding planning journey! :D

Hi Pam! I've heard the Ali center is beautiful!! We are actually having our reception at Masterson's!! When is your son getting married? Well, here are our vendors:
Flowers: Dixie Florist, on Dixie Hwy. We are having all roses, 6 Bouquets plus a toss bouquet, 4 corsages, and like 10 boutenierres (yeah I have no idea how to spell that lol) and it's only going to be like 550 bucks, which I though was really good.
Music/Videography: We are having a company called Excelsior DJ and Video do both. I think it's like $1200 maybe for both. I don't remember exactly, but they give a bit of a discount if you book both services. They were def. the best deal I could find. I also have a friend thats a DJ and she is super fun. Her prices are fairly standard-like 500 or 600 for 4 hours I think. She can be kind of crazy though so if you just want somebody to show up and play music she is not the one, but her service is called Sassy Sounds.
Cake: We are using a women that I got through a friend named Adrienne. Her prices are GREAT! For a 1/2 sheet cake (grooms cake) and a wedding cake that feeds 150 (200 altogether) it's only $325, which is a steal compared to 3 bucks a slice everywhere else.
Photographer: we are using a friend of my dad's, and she pretty cheap. SHe also does video, but I think without video she charges like 500-600 for full day coverage. She comes whenever the Bride wants and leaves when she feels like she is done. She gives you all the pictures and the rights to them on a disc, but no prints or anything which I don't really like but oh well.
Ummm...I'm trying to think if I have left anything out. I don't think so but ig you have any questions or want the contact info for anybody let me know! Since I'm nearing the end (a month and half :w00t:) I've done my research! It's nice to have a fellow Louisvillian! Welcome to the boards!

My aunt finally emailed me the pictures from my shower! There are quite a few so I will post the best ones. I know there are probably more on my mom's camera and I will probably post those this weekend. My mom is waaaaayyyyyy picture happy usually, so get ready for a lot of pictures!!

The first few are just the decorations, cake table, cake, etc.

And this is all my bridesmaids, minus the cousin who didn't feel that this was important to be enough, and the junior BM who I didn't really expect to be there since she is like 10. From L to R: Frances (we were twins lol), my brothers girlfriend, my sister, Shelly, me and my sister.

And here we are opening gifts. It's the best picture I have of the gift table right now. Stephen came over for like the last hour to help open gifts, although he didn't really help lol. I also wanted a picture of the food spread, b/c it was so pretty. My cousin had all white serving dishes that were different shapes, if that makes any sense. And the potato salad was served in a trifle dish (I think that's what it's called) and it was cute. Hopefully mom took a pic of that.

Neat pictures! They really did a nice job of decorating and your cake was really pretty.

My Grandma made me an afghan for my first wedding. I still have it...and we still use it ALL the time. It is sooo warm and wonderful. You will cherish that present forever!!

They did do a great job decorating everything! It looked so good, and the cake matched the plates, it was really pretty and tasted REALLy good lol. I love the afghan from my grandma. It is pink and brown, so I will either put it up for a little while or use it as a blanket in the spare room and then when/if I have a daughter it will eventually become hers. It is so pretty!

I told Grma that I was only going to use mine on special occasions and she said EVERY day is a special occasion and we should use things that are special every day. I think she would have been quite mad at me if we didn't use it. It is still beautiful.

We were lucky in that not only did Grma make each one of us Grandkids an afghan when we married, but she also made each of the Great Grandkids one when they were born. When she started getting where she couldn't see, she made 3 or 4 of those and put them away for future Great Grandkids. I think each one of them got one.

Do you know how to knit or crochet?? I kind of do...but am VERY slow at it. Do you know that if you wash it in the machine, you should dry it in the machine? If you wash it by hand, you should lay it out to dry? That's what my Grma taught me anyway. I always machine wash and dry because it is really heavy.

My mom said the same thing when I said I wasn't going to use mine everyday! My grandma used to sew and knit, etc. all the time, but she can't do it much anymore. My parents have an afghan she made them and they use it all the time and it still looks good. I may be the only grandkid that has one, b/c one of my cousins got married a while ago and I'm not sure if she made them one b/c the wedding was quick and I don't even know if they had like a reception or anything. Then my other cousin is getting married next year, so they might get one, but other then that none of them are anywhere near getting married, and my grandma isn't in great health. So I was very touched that she spent so much time making me one!
I didn't know that about washing them, either. That is really good to know! And I have not even the slightest clue how to knit or crochet. I can barely sew a button back on!

You're so funny!! You should have your Grandma show you how to knit and crochet. It's really easy and as long as you get the basics...it mostly just taking the time to practice. I'll bet she would like that a lot!!

Just finished most of our invites!!! We have like 10 more addresses that we need, but the rest of them are done and ready to be mailed! And I finished the thank you's from my shower. I've been trying to get the picture printed out for the front of the guestbook, but it's not working, but as soon as I get that done then I will be able to finish that and the FG basket. I can't wait to start getting RSVP's and being able to tie up all the lose ends!!

I'm fixing my first "real" dinner tonight! Some of you may laugh b/c Stephen has been living over here for like 3 months now and I have yet to fix anything more complicated then hamburger helper lol but I am so busy and am not all that great at cooking yet! But tonight I have been home all day and just felt like cooking. So we are having Italian Chicken breasts on the george foreman grill served over rice with green beans and mashed potatoes (the instant kind, I like it better and we don't have a potato peeler lol). I hope it all tastes good, I'm a little nervous, but excited! I'll let you guys know how it goes!

LOL Stephen was impressed he alwasy thinks I don't know what I am doing. I do, I just haven't had the chance to cook really. The dinner was good, the chicken was a little dry, I cooked it too long on the grill and the rice could've cooked a little longer, but the chicken was done so I needed the rice done lol. I will time things better next time. Overall, it was good! Stephen was even impressed with the plating he said (we watch iron chef too much I think lol) so I took a picture, but my cord is my parents. I will post them tonight!

Our RSVP's are piling up!! We are coming down to the final stretch now, so I thought I should post what I have left to do. It doesn't seem like much until I type it all! It's mostly just little lose ends though.

Pick up dress/veil from alterations-appt. Aug 10 for final fitting, should have dress back then.
Make favors
Buy attendant gifts (pocket knives for GM, tote bag, keychain, few little things for BM, teddy bear and mug for RB and FG, it all just needs to be ordered)
Make list of pictures, meet with photog
Finalize details with DJ, Baker, Videographer, Florist, Reception Venue
Get centerpieces together (we are hot gluing the flowers down in the vase so they stay put better)
Make programs
Call pastor
Pick song for soloist, finalize details with her
Make appt. for hair, nails, make-up
Decide where I am getting make-up done
Buy thank you cards
Get sash for FG dress
Make card box

Thats everything I can think of right now. I know there is more lol but I don't know what right now. I have a plan for it all, I just have to accomplish it!

ETA Make cardbox. I knew I would remember more!

In other news, we bought a new tv. 32" LCD monitor, it's really nice! However, it is so not that simple! It's kind of long but I will try to make it short! As some of you may know, we are not in the best money situation. We weren't even going to take a honeymoon b/c of money, but we decided to get a 0% APR disney rewards credit card and put our disneyworld honeymoon on that so we have a year to pay it off. Well, he doesn't like credit cards b/c he hates making lump payments and seeing his money go all at once. Well, our 27" flat screen TV broke and it was still under warranty, so they tried to fix it, said it would be more to fix then replace, so we got $200 towards another tv. I was all excited b/c we could find an equivalent tv for just about the same and still have the old one (it works, there is just a line at the top that is annoying, but it's watchable) to put in the computer room and we will get a new one for the living room. Well he took it upon himself to go out and buy a $600 tv without me!!! And he put it on the c.c he hates!!! As soon as I got home and he told me, I could tell he felt bad and he new he shouldn't have done it, but he has a hard to time telling sales people no. He was like "I got a new tv. We have 30 days to return it." lol it's kind of funny b/c it was so cute b/c he knows he shouldn't have bought it. Now he doesn't want to give it up though! I mean, he knew when he bought it was going to be returned, but he still wants to pretend we can afford it just b/c he likes it so much. What is it with men and electronics!?!? I mean my cell phone and lap top are both literally falling apart (battery won't stay in phone and the screen on my lap top falls foward a lot, unless it is open to a certain point) but I am dealing b/c we can't afford to replace either. And he is supposedly getting a PS3 from his mom for christmas. Can we say spoiled lol?

I got my dress back today! And my veil. It wasn't exactly what I was wanting, but it will do. The dress fits great, but today was the first time I actually feel like I should've tried to lose weight. I think a big part of the problem is that I have out on like maybe 3 pounds but apparently it shows. I am back working at a bakery that I used to work at, and I'm sure that has contributed, as I am sure eating late dinners b/c I am coaching volleyball and practices are until 8:30 also don't help. I just don't feel like I have the time to really focus on eating healthy!! I thought about trying to cut back on carbs just for a little while b/c I have done that before and lost a lot of weight, but I just don't know if I have the will power. Auuggghhhhh why couldn't I have been born with fast metabolism!

Well our RSVP's were due two days ago, and as you can see we are still mising A LOT, although some of them are from people I see reguarly and they have told me they are coming, we just haven't technically received an RSVP.

I turned my menu in yesterday, and my parents paid part of the reception cost. The menu could change b/c we over estimated on guests and if it goes down then the menu has to go up lol b/c we have to have a minimum. That's okay though b/c there are more things I want!

We started assembling our centerpieces (will not really assembling, we are just gluing the flower to the bottom of the glass so it doesn't float or move a lot when we fill it with water) but we thought it woud be reallye asy with hot glue, but apparently hot glue doesn't stick to glass when water is added lol! So I was asking people at work and my boss suggested I try clear silicone, and I did today and it works, so I guess we will get back to assembling those this weekend!

Now a vent. My photographer is kind of getting on my nerves. I feel like she is being so pushy about not having very many pictures taken at the church. She keeps reminding me that each pic takes 3 minutes, and that relaxed pictures are always so good, and the cake table makes such a pretty background. I mean I am okay with some being taken at the reception, but I just feel like I will be focusing on so many other things I don't want to remember the next day that I never got a picture with so and so b/c I forgot, or whatever, you know? Does that make sense? I just don't want to have to like worry about getting people together at the reception when everybody is dancing and spread apart and all that. We are getting as many pics done before the ceremony as we can without seeing each other, but she still acts like she would rather take them at the reception. I mean I know she is working for me, but still!

Okay, done now :). Thanks!

I had my 2nd shower today! It was much smaller, and I was a little disappointed with turnout, but it was stil fun! I got three hand mixers lol! I'm going to take two back and get the shredder that I REALLY want! There isn't a lot left on the registries, even though I still don't have alot of it, I'm still excited! Our wedding was one month from yesterday, and I still have so much to do! And a lot of the stuff that I need to get done isn't wedding related, like move the rest of my stuff out of my parents house, which is even more frustrating, but it will get done eventually. It's really coming down to the wire, now! I can't believe all of these weddings are so soon!

So we have had a very productive day! We met with the pastor and just kind of went over the ceremony order, etc, so now I have to make programs. Then we took my dress to the dress shop to get pressed and while we were there we asked if the last groomsmen (who we have had a very hard time getting him to acutally go get fitted) went and got fitted for his tux, so now eveyrbody's tux has been ordered. That is so relieving! Then we took some duplicate shower gifts back to target and picked up some stuff that we wanted off our registry that we couldn't wait three more weeks for lol. Then we went and had dinner, came home, put some gifts we have received since the shower away and finished all but like 3 of our centerpieces! Now I am going to either work on my thank you cards or seperate m&ms for the favors! Only three weeks from today!!!

ETA: And I ordered a new phone today! My old cell phone just randomly restarted itself ALL the time, so I needed a new phone bad! It's the Sony Ericson w300i. i dont know much about it, but I read some good reveiws online and it has everything I want from a phone. I can't wait to get it!

Sorry I haven't been on much! My computers power cord broke and I can't get on my computer until I get a new one! I'm at my parents now getting ready for my bachelorette party, that I am not too excited about. I am just not a partier. Plus my brothers exgf is going to be there b/c we are still friends, and his current one (who is in my wedding and I like much better) is nervous b/c the ex is not very nice, so the other mutual friends will also probably be immature and not speak to her either. I hate drama. And I don't feel good. But I'm going to go, have a good time, and try not to be grumpy!

Well we had fun, and everybody got along! It ended kind of early b/c my cousin, who was our ride home, had to leave b/c her little boy got sick. So we ended coming back to my house and drinking some wine and hanging out. I didn't drink very much, much to my brothers girlfriend's disappointment I think lol. I had a frozen mixed drink that was really good, then something called a purple haze, a shot of tequila (that I had to pick up without hands from between a guys knees). I was secretly kind of proud seeing as that I don't drink lol. I will post some pictures as soon as I get my computer back hopefully tuesday or wednesday. Overall though it was really fun!

Holy **** I will be married a week from tonight!!!!!! I can't believe it has gone by so fast. Stephen is at his bachelor party tonight. I'll be honest, I am more nervous about it then I thought I would be. I don't know why, I know he won't do anything stupid, but I guess just the thought of him being out with his brother most likely at a strip club makes me nervous b/c his brother is an a$$ and will make him do stuff just b/c and Stephen won't say no b/c he wants his big brothers approval or whatever. Oh well.

We got our favors done tonight (well we are short 10, but we have to get more m&m's) so the only big thing left to do is programs, which hopefully we can get done tomorrow. We are finishing up the gifts tonight, and from there it's just little tiny details! The internet is not working at my house so I can't get on here like I want to! Hoepfully soon though!

With things gearing up for the big day I haven't had much time to update you guys! Well, up until today I have had smoot sailing. We finished most of our favors (we have like 15 left, but it is just tying a bow so we should be able to finish those quickly), the cardbox is almost done other then put pictures in, I need to attach the ribbon to the guestbook and ringbearer pillow, and the major thing is make programs. Here is where the problems come in. First of all, we couldn't get copies made of three picture we need (one for the cardbox, two for the memory table) b/c of copyright and my printer isn't working so I went to a photo kiosk thing and managed to get them printed, although they don't look great. The biggest issue thoug-Kinkos, the copy place I used to print and cut my invites, totally screwed up my programs! I only had like 150 pieces of cardstock left, which I didn't realize but regardless they called and told me that they only got like 50 (the programs are three layered pages, so 50 of each is 150 pages) printed, but the first page was cut wrong. Do I have anymore cardstock they ask. NO!! So now what do i do?!?!?! They offered there cardstock, but its a light pink and I want dark pink. They will reimburse me if I order more-but I only have three day to get them done. I was so upset! Not once have I been upset or on the verge of tears until tonight. So I ended up ordering more paper, having it shipped overnight, and it ws like 90 bucks, but I don't care. The part that sucks though is that the order probably won't be processed until tomorrow, therefore it will be thursday until I get it, so thursday evening before they get them printed, etc. so I have like 24 hours to get 150+ programs made. I'm so frustrated, but I can't do anything, so I am trying to let it go and hope for the best :) AUUUGGGHHHHH I knew things wouldn't last going so well! I'm trying to stay positive. I will try to update more tomorrow.

Well ladies, everything is pretty much done. We finished favors last night, the programs were printed, cut and put together today. My mom did most of them, thankfully! She has been such a big help to me, even if she has driven me crazy! Now we just have the typical errands-pick up dress/tux, go see the flowers, drop of the centerpieces, etc. at the reception hall, get my eyebrows waxed, nails done.....um I think that's all we have to do before the rehearsal dinner. We need to pack for the honeymoon but that can be done sunday before we leave.

Oh I got another wedding gift today. From my boss at work, whom I have known since I was 15. They thought i might need it before we left so they wanted us to have it. It was a check for the honeymoon for $275! They are very generous, but I didn't expect that much!

Congrats, and I'm sorry some people were too interested in the game to stay. I'm sure it was a beautiful day anyway :)

Thanks ladies!!

Well, we are back from the honeymoon-Disney World was so much fun! I will do my best to post my wedding day story soon and get the few pictures I have posted soon! Probably later tonight or tomorrow-we are still recuperating from the whirlwind of the last week!
