Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

When you say or send a holiday greeting are you more likely to use the words Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa (or other culture specific greeting) or Happy Holidays?

Depends on who I'm sending it to, to be honest. If it's family, I say Merry Christmas. If it's someone who I'm not sure how they celebrate, I say Happy Holidays! I'll only use Hannukah or Kwanzaa for people that I know for certain celebrate those holidays.

I am a Happy Holidays kind of person and have been using it long before it became ultra PC. I figure it covers all the bases, from Thanksgiving to New Years and everything in between, besides I like the alliteration.

At family Christmas parties on Christmas I say Merry Christmas. But for cards I like Happy Holidays, it's concise and sounds good.

If I know who I am addressing - I use whatever is appropriate. Otherwise, it's Merry Christmas. They say that 1/3 of us are Christian/celebrate Christmas so I figure I am bound to be right 1/3 of the time :)

I tell EVERYONE Merry Christmas!!! If someone is upset then I feel that they can wish me otherwise. I'm proud to celebrate Christmas, not just for religous reasons but because it's a special time of the year, the "Christmas Spirit".

Most of the time I say Merry Christmas!!! If I knew someone was, just for instance Jewish, I would not say Merry Christmas to them. The only time I say Happy Holidays is when I am talking about something in regards to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I prefer to say Merry Christmas.
I will say happy holiday's if i am not sure. Or just say nothing at all.

Merry christmas!!!! I never use happy hoilidays, but we dont use the word holiday quite the same as you! We might say".....over the xmas holidays" but ive never heard anyone use it to say happy holidays KWIM??? i dont lol Watch this now though, i'll be watching the news over christmas and they'll all be saying "happy holidays" lol i bet ya!

When I'm around people that I know celebrate Christmas I say Merry Christmas. Otherwise, I stick to Happy Holidays.

That's pretty much me ... I will say Happy Holidays for a while before (like now) then as it gets closer and the day of I will have Merry Christmas.

Most ppl I know don't seem to mind. We even have a Jewish friend and he doesn't care. Though we send him a Hanukah (sp?) card every year.

I had it stuck in my head from my previous job to only say Happy Holidays, now my new boss who is Jewish says he is tired of being PC and he is saying Merry Christmas to everyone so I am now back to Merry Christmas(I personally like Merry Christmas so much better it sounds more fun)
