Ahhhh...My wedding was the most wonderful day of my life and the fastest day ever! I hardly remember breathing. So I figured I should share my day with you all before I forget all of the details.
The Morning of the Wedding.
I stayed at my mom and dad's house the night before the wedding. I woke up around 5 in the morning because her dogs started barking. Once awake, I went into wedding mode! My hair appointment was at 10:30, so the night before, I washed my hair wouldn't so it wouldn't be wet when I got to the hairdresser. My mom decides she'll cook a big breakfast including bacon!!! So needless to say, My hairdresser had to actually wash out the bacon smell from my hair, blow it dry, and then updo it....Thanks Ma!!!
So after that we went back to me cousins house and my dad brought over some pizzas for us girls and we just talked and laughed about everything. The photographer showed up and it jsut got really weird for me. He was in my face snapping pictures any chance he could. After a few minutes of that, I kinda got used to it, but none of us were ready!!!
We were all running around trying to get each other ready and now it was 4:00 and we needed to be at the church for 5:15. But everything went off without any problems at all!!!

So the Christmas cards are rolling in and guess what...
They're addresed to: Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan D
Ahhhhh....It's soo weird changing my last name. All of my stuff at work is now Amanda D*****, when I make phone calls from work It's D*****, It's just soo weird!!!
How long did it take some of the married girls here, to get used to thier last name??
WhiskeyGirl
12-05-2006, 08:58 PM
To be honest a year and a half later it sometimes still catches me off guard. like if someone calls me Mrs W*****. It sometimes makes me wonder if my MIL is behind me! lol. But it's such a wonderful feeling. I never really had a hard time going by Shawna W*****, though, it seemed so natural.
mariaandmanish
12-05-2006, 09:01 PM
I'm used to it now, cause I'm called Mrs. C at work everyday, but it took a while to get used to. And it's still sometimes a little odd.

It's only been two months for me, but just the other day when I made my hair appointment I noticed in the book I had told her my maiden name. I catch myself doing that a lot. But when it's been that way for so long, it's hard to switch into the new way.

12-06-2006, 10:34 AM
I didn't take me to long to say it, the hard part for me was signing my name. It a think you do so often without thinking about it.. Occasionally, I will still catch myself.

I can imagine that would be really hard.My FH has SUCH a long name I know it is going to be hard. I pratcie writing my new signature sometimes like a little girl and her first crush. hahaha

12-06-2006, 02:21 PM
I took to my new name pretty quickly. Most people did. My mom called me Jennifer B.... the other night and i had to correct her that i was now Jennifer R.... She's definatly not used to it yet.

For those who didn't know, Jon and I honeymooned in Disneyworld. It was the best time of our lives. The day we got there we were given these buttons that said "Just married", and we were told to wear them whenever , we went out. So we did and every where we went people we congratulating us left and right.

I have been feeling really guilty lately about this website. I come on and read all of your posts and know what's going on in everyone elses lives but haven't been sharing to much of mine. So here's the latest update:
I still love my job!!! hehehe start off with the easy stuff.
Jon and I sat down last week and discussed our finances. With school loans, credit cards and our cars we owe quite a bit of money. We developed a financial plan and will be out of debt by April. In April and May we'll be looking for our own home (yay yay) Right now Jon and I rent an apartment but his parents live right downstairs. It's been a nightmare with his mother especially since we've gotten married. She's still not letting him go. I think in order for Jon and I to fully experience marriage we need to be alone and living on our own. (It is a full apartment, but we see them almost every day especially because she waits for us to come home and just happens to come out of her house) So home buying is a huge plus for us!
So in June we should have our own house. We aren't ready to fill it up with little ones yet but this has been talked about. Jon really wants to go to Japan next year, so it wouldn't be wise of us to get pregnant this year and have to cart a baby around in a foriegn country.
I know it seems soon for us to be even thinking of kids. I'm going to be 24 and he's 25, but I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 19. When I was 14 I was diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor said it would be wise for me to start trying soon because with all the hormones I've been on and surgeries I've had she thinks I might have a hard time getting pregnant and staying pregnant. She also thinks I might go into early menopause before 40.
I'm in a rush to have kids but want to be married first. So we're going to start trying in the middle of next year. Sounds long, but this summer I'll be working with my Gynecologist to get the ball rolling. So we're looking at a 2009 baby!!!!
Jon is fine. The dogs are just great. Life is perfect right now! Yea right...hehe...Jon and I fight quite a bit but I think that because I'm pushing him about the house tooooooo much. Wouldn't you all be excited about buying your first house?!?! He doesn't even want to talk about it until April, but I'm excited and want to talk about it 24/7. Anyone else feel the same?
So that's my past couple of months in a long winded kind of way. Plus I have some christmas pictures to put up from our first christmas, and I found some wicked cool honeymoon pics....To be continued...hehehe
PS..Hope everyone had an awesome holiday season!!!
Jenn060306

Hey Amanda. Good to hear from you. I am glad that you still love your job! And looking into paying off your debts and buying a house is a great plan! I don't blame you for wanting to have that space away from your IL's.
Sounds like starting to TTC journey aftery ou go to Japan is a good plan. I hope that the PCOS and endometriosis don't cause you any fertility issues.
Best Wishes!

Yuck PCOS! (Sorry it's true and I'm sure you understand what I mean!) For a while, some doctors thought I'd have it too...and it's rough. I wish you all the best and hope the doctors can find the right blends of meds or the right steps for you to take to get and stay pregnant. There is a book out there and there is also a PCOS diet that you can do to help you lower your blood sugar levels and possibly get pregnant. And what a kicker, endo too, I am so sorry but remaining positive is a great way to overcome things, and you seem to be a very positive person...this is something I need to remember myself, so Amanda kick my *** into shape if I'm not being positive!!I wish you and Jon all the luck in the world. I hope you get your 2009 baby as soon as you start trying. My heart is with you and you are both in my thoughts!! :D

That;s the beauty of real estate, a person lists high and then it get's sold for much less then the asking price. SO if you think something is out of your price range, make an offer that is...the worst they can say is no and come back with a counter offer. GOod luck with any future houses that come into your sites!!!
And blush away, you're still awesome and loveable!!!! :D :ginger:

Okay so today I'm off to court to help defend one of my inmates. I didn't sign on for this when I accepted the job. Basically he's a sex offender but has no place to go. It's extremely tough in Mass to find housing for people with sex offences. But his sentence is over and the judge might send him to the streets tonight (5 degrees tonight). He's mentally ill too.
So basically I'm going in to see if the judge will let him stay for 15 days so I can work on housing. Ughh...I have a caseload of 35 men. Now I have to focus on just one for now...This Job (I love it to death) is getting pretty stressful. Plus i'm known as the "bleeding heart" because i get emotionally involved.
Then last night Jon and I ended up in the animal emergency hospital because our Duncan ate the cup of one of my bras and may have a blockage. He was choking and wouldn't stop. So now he needs more testing. He stopped the constant choking but still is hardly eating/drinking anything. And No bowel movements for three days. So it's not getting better.
So, Our first big purchase as a married couple is vet bills!! You'd be sick if you knew how much this cost us. Oh well, we love him.
countrygirl
01-17-2007, 11:28 AM
Hey Amanda, sorry to hear about your dog. I know that vet bills are rediculous. Good luck w that. It's terrible when pets are sick, it's not like they can tell you what's wrong with them or when they are in pain.
Sorry to hear about your inmate as well. While I don't agree w sex offenders being able to get any special treatement, I don't agree w putting anyone on the streets either. I hope that everything works out for the best.
Good luck girly!!!

So Monday night was just not good at all. Jon and I got into a huge arguement and said some really hurtful things to each other. I'm upset because everything in life has to be "planned" and "Mapped out" before we can do anything. I am the complete opposite, I don't think life can be planned.
So the other night we were laying in bed and the subject of buying a house and babies came up. Oh lord was it a mess. Through all of this I found out Jon doesn't really want to move out til sometime mid 2008!!! He wants to pay off all of our debt and save a "solid" dow payment. He just decided this after getting me all excited about looking for houses just a few weeks ago.
Now, Don't get me wrong, that would be awesome, but that means staying in this apartment longer. For those of you that don't know...MY IN-LAWS LIVE DOWNSTAIRS!!! So I told him that I think he has a fear of being away from them and out on his own. This caused a full blown war. We see his parents every day. They always invite themselves up, come outside when we get home, and we always have to go down when they're having a Sunday dinner. It's ridiculous, and I tried to explain to him that this is our first year of marriage and we can't experience it fully by living with his parents.
So after a few more comments were exchanged (one about an umbilical cord ) he said " THE BIGGEST MISTAKE IN MY LIFE WAS MARRYING YOU"
I can't believe he said that to me!! We've only been married for 2 months and he had the nerve to say that. I have never been soo hurt in my life :( I don't deserve this, I just want to move out and be on our own for a chance. We've been living here, with them, for 4 years now! We need a chance to experience life on our own as a married couple. And we went to bed mad at each other and I wouldn't talk to him all day yesterday. I still have bad feelings towards him right now even. That is the worst thing you can say to someone I think.
So....I guess the honeymoon period is over :(

I'm so sorry that you and your DH had your first since married huge fight. I don't blame you for being mad I would be to. I think as you have stated in your post that the biggest problem is that your inlaws are always around. You have every right to feel the way you do, and you do deserve to live apart from your inlaws, I think this is the main reason for the arguements and sorry to say but it won't get any better if you continue to live that close to them. Believe me I did it for 6 years even though my FIL's lived only a few houses down it was terrible. Always in my buisness knew who was at my house and when they would leave, would pop in for no reason just to be nosy. I hope that you can convince your DH to change his mind on moving soon, even if it is to another apartment a couple of streets away, and then save for your house. I wish you all the best of luck.
ladymelissa
01-24-2007, 01:53 PM
Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear that. His comment was out of line, but it sounds like you got in your share of below the belt hits. I hope you two can learn to deal with disagreements diplomatically and hopefully compromise on issues. There isn't really anything wrong with wanting to plan things, esp. big things like buying a house and making sure you are financially stable enough to do so.
Instead of exchanging hurtful words that can never be taken back, you should have expressed that you would really like to live together on your own. Then you should have pulled out the budget and tried to figure something out. Maybe you could have lived where you are for 6 more months (and save even more every month) and then bought a house or some other compromise that is acceptable to both of you. I wish you the best with this one and for your relationship in the future.

oh dear, I am sorry to hear about your fight, that sounds like that was a bad fight. It is never fun to have a fight like that, I am sure that you both had some hurtful words and I hope the two of you can sit down and really talk about your feelings.. GOod luck!
mariaandmanish
01-24-2007, 04:50 PM
Aww, Amanda, I'm so sorry to hear about that fight!
We make it a rule in our house to be very careful about what we say when we're disagreeing about anything. If I get angry, or he does, we'll walk away and save the conversation for later. Having said that, I would suggest, as Melissa did, that you go back to him and discuss your reasons for wanting to leave, without making any judgements or assumptions about his reasons. While you may be right, it puts him on the defensive and that's not where you need to be in a discussion this big.
I do completely understand about not wanting to live with the inlaws. My BiL has lived with DH and I for 4 years now, and I've had enough as well!! It's very hard to have a real honest marraige and relationship with someone else in your business all the time.
I wish you the best of luck in your next discussion. Try to keep calm and not say anything that either one of you will regret later. Try to keep it about you, and not him. "I feel that," or "I need for us to be separate so that we can really be ourselves independent of your parents. and I understand that being here helps us to save money for our future, but can we make a more realistic compromise on how long we stay here for, because this situation is difficult for me..." etc.
Best of luck, honey! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_1_103.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxmk788KUUS)

Thanks everyone for all of your comments and concern...It's so funny,,,I can help family after family solve thier problems but yet, when it's my family/marriage I deal with it like a child. I know that the way I reacted was completely wrong and inappropriate but sometimes I just get soo angry.
Family has always been top priority for the both of us, But I didn't plan this for our marriage. I had no idea how "involved" they were until we got married. They still check in 4-6 times a week with him. They are over involved and I don't know how to deal with this objectively.
Jon called me before I went to work this morning and we decided that we'd go out to dinner this Friday night and have a serious talk about this situation. I decided that it would be best for us to be out somewhere so we couldn't yell at each other or leave.
Thanks for all of you opinions and comments girls. I'm so glad I have all of you to bring me back to reality :)

Been there. Done that .... and while everyone thinks that one should be able to see this about to happen, I know what you mean when you say you had no idea. I didn't either.
It's good that you will be talking. It's best that you discuss and come to an understanding regaring the limits to which you both with let outsiders (yes, this means family too) "into" your marriage.

Our dinner on Friday night went really well.
jon and I talked about all of the stressors that we're having right now in our work life as well as our home life. We've both been getting alot of pressure from our families to have a baby (Becasue supossedly it's our next step). We keep saying okay to everyone, but both of us aren't ready for a child. I had no idea that he was extremely nervous about bringing a child into this world right now as am I. We're too young and we have ALOT of traveling in our system!!!
We might try in 2009 but only if we want to... His family is very much into "get married and have babies". It's pressuring, but we are not ready. I just wish he talked to me about it before it blew up into this huge arguement.
And the housing situation is cleared up. I explained to him the importance of us moving out, and he agreed but is also aprehensive to take on a mortgage payment, and not have his parents there if something breaks etc.
I explained that this is a huge step in our lives, but it's a step that can't be avoided. So we agreed to pay off all credit cards (Done at the end of March) and we're going to be looking for houses the last week of February!!!!
I'm soo excited! We need this soo much in order to experience marriage to the fullest....
So here goes, Our trips before "babymaking"
1. Japan
2. A cruise to the Carribean
3. France
4. India
After that, we'll see. But this is what we've decided for right now :)
 to a HAPPY MARRIAGE....until next week..LOL...Just kidding

Amanda Honey,
I hear you!!! My DH and his family had a very hard time cutting the umbilcal cord too...infact, DH has, family hasn't in a way!! When we were first married we had many fights like the one you and Jon had. We lived on the same farm as Matt's mom/dad and brother/SIL. I hope for you and Jon that things turned around like they did for us. Finally Matt realizes that this is our life, our marriage and our time to shine. (so to speak) Some times its hard not to say the hurtful things, I know all too well from experience, but it's always better to lay it out and get it cleared up straight away. I wish you both the best, put yourselves first, the rest of those people can come along afterwards, if you have space or want them in that aspect of your life together. I'm glad ot hear that you have talked it out and come to a good conclusion!!! Take care Sweetie.

So today I'm working 1-9pm. and it's a huge snowstorm outside. Jon called me this morning when he got into work...He got into a car accident this morning!!!!
He calls me very calmly (cause he knows I'd freak out)...Says:
"Hunny, Just calling to tell you that I'm nice and safe at work....(insert small pause) but the car isn't."
What?!?!?! LOL. I was soo nervous anyways. But I guess a man was sliding out of a gas station (slick roads? lol) and and hit Jon and pushed Jon into s stop sign. So now Jon can't open his drivers door. I told him that I'm just glad that he's okay...I don't even care about the explorer at this point. Whatever you do don't give up hope. My friend Alisha used to be a size 5/6. After her first child she was a size 18 and at one point a size 20. She started her weight gain shortly after she was married then they she had gotten pregnant. She never thought she would be thin again. Since September she joined a gym with me and one of our other friends and between eating healthy and working out she is really starting to loose weight!! She's down to almost a 10 and looks amazing already. So, whatever you do keep it up...It will pay off in the end.
I think it is awesome that your hubby is joining the gym with you. You will also find he will be great help with you ambitions and goals!! Kudos for the two of you!!!

I'm the same way Amanda, I call it happy fat because when I was unhappy I was at an unhealthy underweight. I'm at my all time highest too and can't start really working out because of circumstances that we are in right now. I may join a gym just so that I can walk for a hour or so or something. I can walk, I just can't full out excercise. It sucks!!
I hope you can get to the goal you are wanting to reach!! :D Good luck. I'll be your cheer leader!!! :D YOU CAN DO IT!! ;)

Hmmmm...This house hunting stuff is tough! So we went on Saturday to a real estate person. He's extremely nice and works with alot of first time buyers. so that was a huge plus (he was def. patient). He asked us what we wanted in a house, and the only thing we wanted was a house under 260,000 with three bedrooms and a backyard.
We are looking to buy in New Hampshire. We saw three houses in person and two houses reminded me just like a mini Boston. It was actually one of the worst parts of town! Why would I spend that much money to live in a disgusting neighborhood?!?! So we immediately passed without even looking at the houses. Neighborhood is everything for us...We want our children to be raised in a nice place, not what we saw!!!
***Not all of this city was ugly and sketchy BTW.
So then he took us to one more house but we couldn't go in because the owner requested a 24 hour showing notification. I loved the neighborhood, the outside does need some work, Huge yard, and it's located really close to the Merrimack River.....That makes me nervous, and we'd need to buy flood insurance!
So, now we have 16 more houses to look at. Hoping that all goes well. I could barely sleep last night I was sooo excited! I can't believe that we are really going to buy our own home!!!!!
In other news, Jon's on a Business trip to Chicago until Thursday :(
But when the hubby's away the wife will......Keep looking for houses :)
I'll keep you all posted!

Tomorrow I'm going to the Dreaded Doctors office! I've been having daily headaches (Really bad ones too) and getting very dizzy at times and also forgeting alot of stuff... I legitimately drove the wrong way to work last week. Completely blanked out on where I was suppossed to be going...I travel the same route 5 days a week! How could that have happened?!?!
So I'm just nervous and anxious about this trip. I think a trip to the neurologist is in order :( But the nurse said it could also be high blood pressure. I swear to god if it's that, I'll be soo mad at myself for not taking better care of me!!!
So I'll keep you all posted!

I have high blood pressure, or I used to and I am 22. It is hereditary and it is better to get checked out and know that it is not something serious and something you can correct, so don't worry!! I hope it is nothing, but it sounds like what I had before they found out it was high blood pressure!
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Dr.'s Appointment went Just okay...
My blood pressure was high today 124/90. She wants to wait on medication to see what happens with my Blood Pressure once I loose some more weight. She's very proud of me trying to loose weight! I kinda am proud of myself too :)
So she put me on a migraine diet. She doesn't want me drinking ANY caffiene. Ughhhhhh....And eat more green veggies... In 3 weeks, she wants me to come back and see her.
It was funny too, cause she asked me if I was taking any contraceptives and I said no. Then she automatically assumed that I was trying to concieve. But that's not the case either. Ughhh..Doctors, assume that they know everything! :)
So...Don't worry, I'm going to live!

No House :(
We had our parents come and help inspect the house. It needs a new roof and the agent told us it needs a new furnace immediately. With the price that they were asking and the amount of work needing to be done, it just wasn't a good deal.... :(
Just means that there must be something out there even better for us right?!?!

I'll let you know how these houses turn out to be.
In other news, Our wedding DVD came in this week. We watched it Friday night and then yesterday with my parents. It was soo beautiful. I was in tears the whole time. My Husband (Still get excited saying that) look soo handsome that night, and you could totally see the love we have for each other! We are so in love, it makes other sick :)
My new favorite quote is "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times...Always with the same person." No idea who the author was :(
But that is soo true to our relationship. I love him more and more every day!

Okay,
at 10:00 today we are putting an offer in a new home. This house is truely much better than the last one. I don't know why I almost bought that house. It needed sooooooo much work. This house is newer, bigger, and closer to our families and work.
Here are some pics. Let me know what you think.
This house looks small, but it's 3,000 sqft, and has a huge finished basement.
It's just beautiful. A little more money, but well worth it.

 WOW! I will keep my fingers crossed, what a great placewith a nice deck and backyard!!!! It looks really nice.
I remember searching for houses and we found this REALLY old farm house that didn't even have a shower. We were going to buy it and I HATED that house,I was in TEARS when we first saw it, but Nick wanted it to be fixed up, so we put an offer! Finally we saw that the roof leaked, there was NO foundation and it was falling apart, so we took away our offer, needless to say it was condemned and is being torn down. haha. but we fount he house we are living in now and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. So we are good. But you will find that place and I will keep my fingers crossed.

That's good that Jon's going back to school.
That's okay about waiting to start a family, good things come to those who wait right?

I think you are being very wise on waiting on parenthood. take all the time you can for it to be just you and jon. cause after those little rugrats come along that part of your life is gone. it takes on a whole new meaning then.

That is a very good idea. Good for Jon for getting his Phd, sounds like a real smart man. You got yourself quite a catch. Enjoy your time together and kids will follow. Its great being married isn't it? I am just so excited for you guys. Are you moving in right away?

We're In!!! This weekend was soo crazy!
Thursday night Jon and I packed up both of our cars in the rain. We decided that it would be kinda smart to have a load of boxes in the cars before we signed papers on Friday morning. Friday morning came and I swear I didn't sleep a wink Thursday night, cause I was soo excited. We went to the house for a final walk through with the real estate agent.
While walking around the house, the owner came in. She was such a peach. She walked around the house with us and showed us some tips and tricks to the house. She explained how much work that they've done to the house and told us about our neighbors (One owns a pizza shop down the street).
We promised he that we would take care of the house and she was happy. She was even more excited that we were newlyweds and this was our first house. She said we can fill the rooms with babies (Not anytime soon)
So right after that Jon and I went to the house and just kinda stood around not really knowing what to do :). We then unloaded the cars and put the stuff away. Jon and I went out afterwards for lunch to celebrate. It was very nice. We actually ate fast just to get back to the house ..LOL
So later in the day my mom and my aunt called and offered to help Friday night. So we took the up on the offer and moved even more boxes the night. It was sooo tough going up and down all of the stairs with heavy boxes. I was soo tired after all of that. Later that night I went with my mom down the street to meet my new neighbor and ordered a pizza for Jon and I. Jon's mother wouldn't leave though even though we asked her to several times. Of course she wouldn't leave. She needs to be involved in everything!!
But that's all for right now. I'll post about Our Move In day soon enough!!!

YEA!!! So glad to hear that you are in. Moving can be so stressful can't it? It is hard for parents to let go. haha. I am sure she will try to be involved with everything. But just think, you are HOMEOWNERS! That is awesome! I am sooo happy for you! Enjoyy our new home.
