Right then ... what a talented pair we are! Not only can we hop the globe but we can pack for a move at the same time! So, here it is ..... the beginning of a moving story (pun intended)
The moving guys and the truck have been booked
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-snc1/v319/165/122/716941196/n716941196_1296617_2732.jpg
The biggest challenge so far is that we have no room to pack!
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-snc1/v319/165/122/716941196/n716941196_1296618_2917.jpg
100 boxes purchased, approx. 50 already used and we aren't even close to finished. I thinks we need more boxes?

Help! The room is closing in on us. I took down our "to do" chalk board ... LOL what's the point? There is just too much to do to list it all.

I think I am too obsessive compulsive to let anyone pack my stuff. That .... and I wouldn't wish this job on my worst enemy LOL Oh yes, I am also cheap no, no ... frugal/penny pincher/money wise! :) (ie the moving guys are costing us enough!)

Not for Europe no ... that would have meant getting her shots and putting her in quarantine. I didn't think she's worth that much time, money or effort
With that said, I was thinking of stopping at home to pick her up, for the next leg of our trip. "Look Spooky - it's Niagara Falls! Oh Spooky ... don't get too close .... no no no whoooooooooopsie. Cat overboard!!!!"
Here we are at the Grand Canyon (you might not be able to read the sign but it says "Clean Fill Wanted")

"Hi there everyone.
Elizabeth and I decided on a whim to fly to Las Vegas and renew our wedding vows.... I know we haven't been married for a long time but Elizabeth is a huge Elvis fan and she has always wanted to married by an Elvis impersonator at the Graceland wedding chapel.
I thought this is the one chance I could make her dream come true.
It was a very moving ceremony...Elvis actually threw in an extra song on the house.
We have one more day on the road.... Take Care
see you all Tuesday morning."

To me (who lives in a tiny 2-bed rented dump) it looks pretty swanky :winktongue: But swanky is more a state of mind... you like it, it's "shiny" and therefore = swanky. That's my thought process anyway (explains the simplicity :winktongue:).

I have labeled for the room each box goes in and also marked what is inside - ie tupperware - kitchen, photos - guest bedroom etc. I don't want to go about numbering all the boxes now but maybe I should count them. :ooh:
I feel sorry for the guy that has to lift the box labeled stove parts/kitchen :rofl:My mother gave me her jenair accessories so now I have 4 grills, 4 "rocks", one more 2 burner set and two pancake griddles. :)

Nope, none of those for us - but they are very pretty!!! Where I used to live on the coast you would see the lorikeets and eastern rosellas (http://pds4.egloos.com/pds/200704/08/11/b0002311_09041773.jpg) in your backyard whenever. Here in Canberra we see the crimson rosellas (http://www.tvwc.org/Assets/CrimsonRosella.jpg), galahs (http://kookaburra.typepad.com/photos/snaps/galah.jpg), magpies (http://www.sydneynature.com/birds/big/magpie0487.jpg), cockatoos (http://www.danielgundlach.com/blog/uploaded_images/cockatoo-741936.jpg), blue wrens (http://www.wildspot.com.au/images/Birds/JPEG/Blue%20wren%20Male%20004300867.jpg) etc. all the time. Everywhere you go you'll hear the kookaburras (http://www.mareebaheritagecentre.com.au/images/kookaburra-large.jpg) too :p You want to watch out if you see any cassowaries (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/45/128035172_6d5246a8d7.jpg?v=0) - they're quite dangerous (but what animals here aren't??). Where FH is from you see the lorikeets as well, but also ibis (http://www.kenyalogy.com/images/ibis.jpg), jabirus (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b5/Jabiru_Perth_Zoo_Sept_2005.jpg) etc.
Also have scrub 'turkeys (http://www.wettropics.gov.au/st/rainforest_explorer/Resources/Images/animals/birds/BrushTurkey.jpg)', these (http://www.learnaboutwildlife.com/images/bowerbird.jpg) birds are called bowerbirds and collect blue items they find, and zebra finches (http://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/image/88535/Taeniopygia_guttata_Zebra_Finch_620.JPG). We even have penguins (http://www.naturalwanders.com/Fairy%20Penguin1.jpg)!!!
Lol, sorry for all the links... I don't expect you to look through them all. I don't think random knowledge about Australia's native birds will ever help anyone :winktongue:

Ha! Fooled you - I looked at all the links :) It's neat to see so many colourful birds! The jabirus look like a pelican but they have the weirdest legs!
Bluejays or Cardinals (only the male is red - the female is a greeny colour) are about the most colourful that we can see around here. If you go out to the east coast there are all kinds of different birds. My fav is the puffin (it's so comical) -

PUFFIN!!!! I love puffins, they're so cute!!!!!! :whoohoo:
Lol, good work on looking at all the links - I went a little nuts. Female birds are quite often duller here as well. Only male blue wrens are actually blue, and female bowerbirds are brown. We have these lovely birds called Lyrebirds that are only brown but have the most amazing mimicry - see Attenborough's vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjE0Kdfos4Y) to hear for yourself!!! :grinhappy: And yes, the noises are genuinely from the bird!!

Notice all the rolls of wrapping paper in between the couch and the chair (half of which is hidden!)?
Well .... every November, we are at Costco and DH will say - we should pick up some wrapping paper. Every year I tell him that we have enough. Every year he says - are you sure? Let's get some just in case.
Once I had gathered all the rolls into one place I said - see?!! We don't need any wrapping paper this year!

No kidding! I thought I was a pack rat but DH is even worse than I am.
We disagree on packing as well. I want to gather like minded things and pack them together - ie bows and wrapping paper together. He packs by the room (which is all good IF stuff had been put back where it was supposed to be ). For this reason, I pack like a banshee when he's not home so that it will be packed correctly. I just thought I would see if I could tap into a wireless signal with the laptop. Sadly, we won't be able to get free internet here but ..... on a hunch, I pulled out the modem and tried their cable. Ha! Their cable is still working at the new place! Yeah!!!!! I won't be going through withdrawls until our own is hooked up LOL
Just a quick update because I have to get to the unpacking but the move was long. The guys came at 11am and didn't leave the new place until about 7. We ended up helping unload since it looked like it would take forever if we didn't. Not their fault ... we just have too much stuff.
The salesman didn't estimate it very well. He had 8500 lbs of stuff and scheduled a truck to fit this amount. As luck would have it though ... that truck broke down yesterday morning and so they had to send an alternate / bigger truck. Even still .... not everything fit. We had to unload a bit at the house and then go over to the storage facility to pick up the stuff there.
We still have a few odds and ends at the apartment but nothing that can't come over by car.
I took pictures of everything and will upload them later. In the meantime, I have to get my kitchen in order and then start setting up the computers :)

Since our little mouse cadaver discovery ... Hugh decided to go about the house to see where we might close up. He discovered that some critters have been stealing our insulation from under the addition at the back so he got under there to clean up, replace the insulation and close it up with some vapour barrier.
Here he is under the house ... for all his complaining, he looks pretty happy for being in such a small, damp closed space, no???

It's slowly coming together. We would be getting a heck of a lot more done inside the house if the leaves would just stop falling! LOL
We have managed to get a few more things put together. This is our makeshift office / painting studio. When we have a bit of time away from the raking and the other projects, we plan to build a counter/desk on the left so that we can look outside while we are on the computer and while I paint.
We also plan to make a higher counter on the right (beyond the pine wardrobe) to be used as a packing /shipping station. The ratty table to the left and the plastic patio table (aka my temp painting table) at the far back will be gone.

This is the view from my temp painting table now. It's like heaven to be able to paint here. So far I have been able to enjoy some cardinals, bluejays, chickadees, woodpeckers, nut hatches & squirrels.

Our living room is slowly coming together but for my daytime remote work computer. We now have a cable outlet in the office so it's going to the back there tonight.
The TV stand was too big to go downstairs so we are going to have to cut off the feet so that we can bring it down & clear the ceiling.

This is the view from our office / studio looking towards the dining room. We still have to hang the chandelier and put up some sort of curtains / blinds????
We also have to extend the wall on the left, just a bit. The darker cabinet to the left (with the box on top) is actually a corner cabinet but the corner is too short LOL

I amso very glad that it's you that gets to contend with all those leaves. We had winds of 50 - 75 mph yesterday. ALL of our leaves blew to the neighbors. She was the same neighbor complaining about our sweet puppies...so it serves her right!!:rassberry:

Yeah well, we've been in this place for 2 years now and I still have unopened boxes hiding in the closet... I should really do something about that. Are you guys still planning to renovate downstairs? (I've been out of the loop for a month sorry)

Ok I don't know if it is the angle or if it is my glasses but your son's feet are huge! Or maybe it is because the dog has been pulling on his socks. LOL

The basement is what it is for now .... sure, we would like to renovate it but as with any new home owner you find out that there are things that NEED to be done before you can do whatever it is that you WANT to do.
This is the basement now ... I'll cover up all the holes in the walls with photos and stuff just as soon as they are unpacked LOL

All the boxes (books, knick knacks and photos for the walls) are now stacked in front of the back couch.

Most of the boxes came out of this basement guest room

He didn't want much to do with Lily. He's much too "mature" for any kind of puppy play so, Lily played with Mia (a Rhodesian Ridge Back) who was visiting our neighbours. LOL

Ruggles is 4 too but he about to put up with Lily's shenanigans. They didn't fight but he did snap at her a few times, to put her in her place LOL
Mom hates the bichon stuff. At first when he would come back from the groomers with bows she would take them out and tell them that she just wants him to look like a dog :)
Yes, Lily is staying for sure. She told US that this is just how it HAS to be. Besides, how could we NOT keep her after she gives us this sad face?

Stop by???? You better plan on at least an overnight stay :)
I know what you mean about the passports. I have to get my passport renewed. It's not bad; only $85 or so but I don't see the sense in renewing it until I have somewhere to go. I don't want to pay $$ just to see it expire.

The rescue people came this morning to pick up Lily and bring her to the vet to have her stitches removed. She's back, the papers are signed and it's official - she is all ours now! We are the proud parents of a 13 month old basset hound.
LOL the rescue people can't get over how many photos I have taken of Lily. I have emailed them some and they are going to post them on their site as part of their "success story" section :)

How sweet!
My dad always wanted his own dog and after YEARS of talking about it, he surprised my mom one day.
He told her to go look in the den, now here lies Abbey who was just spayed sleeping her bed. My mom wasn't much of a dog person, she really warmed up to her. Infact, my parents wouldn't send me Christmas cookies because I wouldn't say that "Abbey is my sister!" lol
That dog is there baby and they couldn't imagine life without her now, they adopted her back in June.

I feel for you. My Mom refers to herself as Grandma to her dog .... which makes Ruggles my brother :snide: I told her that I wasn't about to be a dog's sister.
LOL but now DH tells Lily to go see Mommy (me) ....

Congrats to you, Hugh, and Lily for making it official!
FH and I refer to our dogs as kids, so we're always telling them to "go get mommy/daddy." My dad refers to them as his granddogs, too, which makes me smile because he was soooo into me even bringing them to visit that first time.

Ha! DH's Dad absolutely insists that we call Lily over to the computer, whenever we do an ICHAT :) He can't wait to meet her.
We tried to get to the train station as his parents were passing through town, so that his Dad could meet Lily when they switched trains but, there was a snow storm. Their train was late because of the storm and so they had to board the next train right away. We also couldn't get to the station because of the snow so, Dad was really disappointed not to meet her.
I think he's more of a dog person than we are LOL

Oh we TOTALLY say, go to daddy or to mommy to the "girls". We never say the D*g word. Eeeks!
