Its funny, when we were down at my dads this summer, I asked Joe if he would like a walk down to cockington but we never got round to it!
Oh, no! Oh well, you can go this time for sure!

Yep and by then, no doubt my dad will have us a list as long as his arm of places to go and see!! hee hee im glad though, hes the only one whos actually interested! and hes the furthest away from me! lol

That is nice that he wants to help! My dad went with me to look at venues, too. After that I think he was on wedding overload! LOL

I think that is so awesome how your dad wants to be involved..My dad and I are very close but when it comes to wedding stuff he just wants to know when, where, what he has to wear and what time he needs to be there LOL!

lea m
01-29-2007, 11:39 AM
I think its because he lives so far from me, he's not involved as much in my everyday life so i think this is his way of getting involved! If you know what i mean! lol

Well I think I've found the perfect place for my small reception after the wedding! Heres a link :
http://www.belgrave-hotel.co.uk/

Its not a grand hotel, but on the net and in the brochure, its seems pretty much what we need! Not to expensive and small enough for only 60! Right across the road from the beach too!

ladymelissa

I think it's beautiful!

Thankyou ladies!! I wasnt expecting that! lol I didn't think it was 'that' great! hee hee but it is right across the road from the beach!! There'll be pictures of me in my dress on the sea wall lol! Probably getting blown off! Hee hee I can see it all now!!

Leanne, where are you planning to honeymoon? A couple (on another board) from London just came back from their honeymoon in Rarotonga, an Island in the South Pacific. Their pics were AMAZING and from what I can see, the price was pretty good too (of course that's all relative depending on your budget).

$700 NZD for a secluded beachfront villa, your own pool/jacuzzi
$569 CAN
$482 USD

Well we are having lots of honeymoons lol! First, as we wont have too much money after the wedding, we're just going to nip to Paris for a weekend! Then we are going to go back with the children to Disneyland Paris, then (when we have more cash) we are going to go somewhere good for a fortnight! I dont know how much that works out in Pounds but it does look good! Do you have a link so I can see it?

You could try checking with a travel agent, sometimes they get better deals b/c of the volume they deal with.

That is depressing, I didn't know that airfare could get that high. :( I am waiting for my passport to get here and I had all these grandiose dreams of seeing the world. LOL

To be honest, I have never seen prices like that for flights! It's pretty unbelievable isn't it? lol I think it is because theres no direct flights to the island from England! I think its 3 different planes and takes 2 days! lol Via Singapore and somewhere alse? I think I might look into Hawaii !! Shawnas gave me the Hawaii bug!! lol

Lea, we are two peas in a pod my dear!! I am the same! Complete with how long I have been dealing with (Diagnosed) depression. I was like this yesterday, I was crying and hysterical in the morning and bouncing around like mad in the evening.

I'm here if you would ever like to talk Sweetie. I have found support is one of the best things I can get when I am feeling this way, that and being able ot talk with someone who cares...so I'm here. And if need be, I'll whisk you off to Oahu so we can track down Leland and druel!! :D Take care Sweetie!

Well I'm thinking of dressing the younger boys in cream suits for the wedding, like this
http://i16.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/86/86/432d_1.JPGIn August it willl be warm (hopefully) and I think black will be too much for them! Hopefully, in a lighter coloured suit, they will keep the suit on for longer than 10 minutes! hee hee

lea m
02-08-2007, 06:43 AM
So it will be:
Me -red dress
2 bridesmaids - black dresses
2 bridesmaids - ivory/cream dresses
Joe, BM, dads and older boys in black suits
Younger boys in cream/ivory suits
Lucy in red (like me)
Should look ok?! I sort of don't really care if it doesn't to be honest! Hee hee

lea m
02-08-2007, 06:49 AM
I do love this style of dress for lucy, she has dresses like this already (fancy dress though) and she looks so good in them, I know not everyone will like them lol but we do! hee hee But I think it will too hot for her to wear a dress with long sleeves

http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_3.jpg (http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_3.jpg)

http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_4.jpg (http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_4.jpg)

http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_5.jpg (http://www.pageantdress.blogdns.com/clothesstuffs/E1028_5.jpg)

I think the color scheme you have for the attire will look really nice. I don't know what your weather is like in Aug. we had about a 75 degree, sunny day and our RB didn't have a problem with a black tux. He took the jacket off a couple times, but that is it. He wore it through the ceremony and hours of pics, plus the reception introductions.

I love Lucy's dress! Awwww, I love the mini me look!

Well it wont be too hot probably lol (it never is in England!) But Joseph and Dillon strip off in the cold hee hee, they are the type of children that, if they get a little warm, they take things off and i know they will still get warm in the cream suits but hopefully not as warm so I might be able to get the outdoor pics done first! lol Thankyou! lol I like the mini me look too! ha ha

Fabulous resorts, it makes me want to get on a plane right now!

They are beautiful!!! I've stayed at them both!! I definately recommend them, though they are quite pricey! Out of the two of them, I prefer the Hilton on BIg Island, the hotel is breath taking!! They even have dolphins right on the hotel property and is where Dog and Beth got married. You can swim with Turtles in the lagoon as well.

PS Lea, I think I'm coming on your honeymoon with you!!!! Also be sure to rent a convertable, it's just a part of the experience!! :D (I guess Matt rents a regular car and then upgrades to a conv. when we get there. Apparently it's cheaper to do it that way! :))

Sounds great! Thats what we will do then too! Upgrade while we're there! I love turtles!

What age to kids leave school where you are? Here you leave high school at 16, you can go on to collage but you dont have to,? I don't think thats right really, I think that school and collage should be compulsory and you leave school at 18-19?! JMO! lol

Here they usually graduate btw. the ages of 17-18. Depending on your B-day. But they go to school starting at the age of 4-5. I agree though about going to school longer and then be made to go to college for a better job.

Wow 16 I don't think that the kids are mature enough to do that.

Thats my thoughts! The children here start at 4 also!
I left school at 16 and was like! Yeah no school! I'll go collage but I'll take a year off first! And never ended up going! When our children leave school, we do exams called GCSE's, then at collage you do A levels then at university they do Degrees etc! I think kids here should leave at 18 after doing A levels then their set for uni, and even if they don't end up going and go to work instead, at least they have a higher level of education under their belt!

Your schools are set up a little different and Christina's are even a little different than here. When I was in school and even now around here, you got about 3 months off for summer break, 2 weeks during Christmas and then about 1 week during Easter. Then there were always other 1 day holidays like, presidents day, labor day and Thanksgiving which was 2 days, plus the weekend.

I'd have loved it in your school! :) Not so much sending my children there lol! :sweatdrop: 3 months of wild children!??!:boggle: LOL I think we just space out the school holidays, but still have around the same amount of time in and out of school! (apart from the age you leave part! lol) And we don't have as many holidays (i.e labour day) we don't have so many, a few bank holidays, thats it mainly! heehee

Lea, I like your dress, although it wouldn't be a choice for me (the one traditional thing that I wanted was a white wedding dress). The one you picked looks very "Gone with the Wind" ish. Oh, and to make you feel better there is this article: http://www.womensmuseum.dk/Previous_exib/wedding.htm

When you go to see wedding dresses, most people expect to see long, white dresses with a veil. The Women’s Museum has a large, varied collection of wedding dresses from the mid-19th century to today. Here we find black dresses, white dresses, coloured dresses, long and short dresses.

The white wedding dresses are, however, of fairly recent date. So is the wedding dress in the shape of the embodiment of a dream; the wedding dress that is only worn once.

The Women’s Museum exhibits all the dresses accompanied by the stories of the women who wore them. We see the bride from 1900, who married above her class and never became happy, and the one whose parents wouldn’t let her marry the man until 1915 when she had given birth to his child because he wasn’t good enough. His smallholder family were lower in the hierarchy than her smallholder family. We see the woman who was fired from her job because she had gotten married. And the one who had a teaching degree from the 1950’es and spent her first savings on a readymade wedding dress. Not to mention the one who defied her parents and got married in a short dress. A lot of girls did, but many of them had some discussions with particularly their mothers first. And we have the women who married because she was Australian and would have had to leave Denmark otherwise. And the one who had been living with a man for almost ten years and divorced him three months after the wedding.

The exhibition also tells us about women’s history from the days when marriage was a way of being supported till the time when it became common that women supported themselves.

And then there is the matter of dress style.

Until the 1930’es the most common was black wedding dresses that could be used over and over again as ‘the nice dress’. They were dresses to be worn for many years, forever altered in size and shape.

The dark wedding dresses have their origin in the peasantry, where the wedding clothes were often a dark skirt – bottle green, sang-de-boeuf red or black – with a bodice. Added to this was an apron later used for going to The wedding clothes were nice, new clothes which were later used over and over again. What was special about the wedding clothes was the headgear. Young, unmarried women wore headgear in light colours and could let their hair down as they liked. For the wedding it was customary to exchange the light girl’s bonnet with a wife’s bonnet – and this one was dark. And the hair was braided or gathered and pinned up.

The veil, the white tulle veil that became common in the beginning of the 20th century, may be a sort of ‘memory’ of earlier days when the girl wore her hair loose until she became a wife. The veil has been white all the time, even with the black wedding dresses.

The first white or light wedding dresses appeared in better society.

Thus, they are not typical of the wedding dress in Denmark. But they tell us of changes and international fashion.

The Women’s Museum owns several light dresses. They are tight at the waist, most of them have high necks – but all white dresses from this period are from very wealthy families.

If we turn to the more common wedding dress around the turn of the 20th century it looked like this: It was black. It was wool. It was two-piece, high-necked and tight waisted. The tight waist was often achieved by a corset. It was elegant, but rather impractical. Fast movements and other kinds of free physical activity were not possible in this dress. When you see the old dresses, you realize, where the idea of fragile, fainting women came from.

So far all wedding dresses – the light and the black ones – were handmade.

Among the lower classes the wedding dress was ‘the nice dress’, bought or sewn for the occasion and used for celebrations and parties for years. During the first decades of the 20th century a new fabric appears among the ones preferred for wedding dresses: the smooth satin. This light fabric has since been characteristic of wedding dresses.

But a larger change takes place as to the cut of the dress. The dresses become suited for movement. The women’s wish for freedom is also reflected in their choice of wedding clothes; loose dresses with no waist. This fashion peaked in the 1920’es as Charleston. We still see mostly black wedding dresses. The dresses from this period is partly handmade, partly machine-made.

During the 1930’es the dresses tighten around the body again, but without the corsets. They often have tight-fitting sleeves and a small train. Princess Ingrid married Crown Prince Frederik in such a tight-fitting dress – and a lot of other Danish women copied her.

The dress style also changed during the 1940’es, because the Occupation meant a shortage of everything. White fabrics for wedding dresses were now common in all layers of society. But they were not easy to come by, and thus black dresses had a renaissance, while other brides chose coloured or patterned fabrics. ‘It was the man, I wanted most,’ one 1945 bride explained when she gave her dress to the museum’s collection. But the most interesting dresses from this period are probably the ones made from parachute fabric – at first silk, later nylon.

The wedding dress of the 1950’es was voluminous. A lot of fabric was used for the skirt. The time of shortage was over; people wanted and could afford to be extravagant. In this period it becomes common to use the wedding dress only once. Many of the dresses are still tailor-made but readymade dresses are on their way.

For the first time in history many wedding dresses were short in the 1960’es. In the 1960’es women entered the labour market and the educational institutions in large numbers. In the 1960’es the equal rights that started with the women’s right to vote in 1915 began to be implemented. And how did the women respond? They flocked to a fashion of dresses that looked like little girls’ dresses. Did they do this to show, that they weren’t all that tough, that sometimes they were willing to settle for being little girls? Anyway, the preferred wedding dress became a knee-length dress that looked very innocent. Now the dress was white – the colour of purity. Some brides still chose a light blue or yellow dress, because they – as so many brides before them – were expecting a baby.

The early 1970’es were the first period of miniskirts – and they appeared among the wedding dresses as well. But not exclusively. We also see white trouser suits; loose purple dresses and long white Lilly-models (Lilly is a well-known Danish wedding dress company). It was a very varied decade, and the wedding dresses from this period are not among the most elegant in our collection.

In the 1980’es the picture becomes the one we know today. Voluminous dresses. Tight waisted with full skirts. Cinderella models, where the dreams of riches and princesses envelops the dress and the bride.

Nylon is a recurring fabric. The dresses are almost exclusively white. And the dress is only to be worn this one time – in principle. So fewer and fewer buy their wedding dress and more and more rent the dress and accessories in shops who specialize in dresses for the big occasion. Dresses for the wedding day, when our culture has achieved a tradition to let the bride dominate the day and really show her best features.

while I must say that is an interesting dress for a wedding, but the shock factor is always the best part of a wedding. No one will see that one coming and I applaud you soo much for your choice. I think it is awesome! I had black on my wedding dress and some loved it and others shunned it. But really a wedding is all about you and your man. there will be some people who really do not like it and there are some that LOVE it (ME) So just go with what you want and go into the wedding knowing there will be differnet opinions on it and hat as long as you love your dress, that is all that matters sweetie!
