So tonight was my first attempt at embossing...needless to say it didn't go over very well. I will have to break down and buy an embossing tool I think..the iron just didn't cut it. I have a friend who swears by using the iron to emboss. Oh well! I also think the versa pen they recommended at the craft store was part of the problem. I am going to take it back and get a stamp pad and stamp. I didn't find that the pen held the powder.

Has anyone here embossed invitations? If so what brand of powder did you use and did you use the tool? Any help would be much appreciated!

I haven't embossed invitations, but I have done other cards, and what I would suggest - if you are embossing print - or the message, I would use the ultra fine embossing powder. It gives a finer, or more defined finish (if you use the regular powder, the powder on each letter might melt into the one beside it and you wont have a clear raised image on each letter, more potential for just a blob of melted powder.) Hope that makes sense. :) It also depends on the size of your font and even the type of font of course, but the ultra fine will be crisper.

One other tip I might add - if you swipe your paper with a 'Bounce' sheet, it should take away the static on the paper and you wont have stray powder sticking where it shouldnt be. (do this on the clean sheet, before you stamp it or add powder)

And I would invest in the heating tool (make sure you use a coupon!) ;) it is well worth the investment! And I sometimes start the heating from under the page (not directly on the powder), so the powder starts to melt a bit and will hold instead of blowing away (although I have never had that problem really - but best to be safe) but then you can direct the heat right at the powder after that. And one more thing :) make sure you move the heating tool around and dont direct it on one spot for too long - you don't want to scorch your page or the image. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!
