Bridal Shower Towel Cake

Towels, silk flowers, & a little creativity are assembled into this towel cake - a big hit at bridal showers!

Supplies Required:
2 Bath Towels
Decorative Soaps
2 Hand Towels
String of Pearls
2 Wash Cloths
Small Wedding Rings
Narrow Ribbon
Small Silk Roses
Pins
Large Silk Flowers
Cake Plate on Pedestal
Carved Soap or Candle for Topper
Instructions:
Making the towel cake is easy! Here's what you do...
1. Fold each bath towel in half lengthwise twice. Roll into a tight coil and use pins to anchor.
2. Join second bath towel to end of first with pins. Continue coil, pinning at the end and tying layer with narrow ribbon to secure.
3. Use hand towels for the second layer and wash cloths for the top (rolling each layer the same as the bath towels). Use pins to help keep each layer stable.
4. Decorative soaps can be tucked between layers, small silk flowers attached to the ribbons where they are tied. Drape the pearls on each layer. Add wedding rings with little bows around at random.
5. At the top, use carved decorative soap, a carved candle, or large silk flowers for the topper.
6. Encircle the bottom of the cake on the plate with large silk flowers. These can be done in the color of the wedding party.

That's too cool. I will have to pass that on to my mom and FSIL. They were looking for something like that for my shower. Thanks!

I just showed my mom the picture and she's in awww, she's gonna maybe attempt it. Maybe not for me, cause she's not the one throwing any showers, but we are the shower queens for other people lol.

You can do different 'themes' for the cake too. Most often I do kitchen ones. For one I had a rolling pin right in the center, and the towels in different layers wrapped around it, had ribbon trailing down from the handle poking out on the top. I used a pizza pan for the bottom, some scrubbies and flower shaped sponges as decorations some measuring spoons spread out, just all kinds of little handy things (but be careful, all those little things can REALLY add up!) but I try to make every single thing on it useful in some way (safety pins holding it together will come in handy for the new bride! too) :D

oo, my h2b's aunt is getting married on 1st December, and we bought her a towel wedding cake. We're going to show it to her on the morning and tell her it's THE cake. hehe, of course we've got her a lovely edible one too.:winktongue:
Thought they were great novelty cakes, or would make an interesting dysplay.
