As some of you know, I was having pretty regular headaches with spells of lightheadedness about 8 or 9 mos ago. I went to the Dr and was told is was likely stress related migraines. So I tried not to stress so much and the symptoms started lessening (this was also when I got my first dog too) I've also been taking Maxalt when the episodes get bad.
Up until a couple of weeks ago I hadn't had a bad episode in months. Then today I had a pretty bad one ... I had just got off the phone with DH and was fine. Then I was playing with the dogs and all of the sudden I felt sort of dizzy (lucky I was sitting) the feeling lasted for about 5 or 10 mins and now I have a headache.
This seems to happen more when I get up too fast or it I throw my head back (like to escape doggy kisses) or close my eyes too tight (like rinsing my hair in the shower) But sometimes it happens for no apparent reason ... The other day I got the lightheaded feeling just laying in bed.
I suppose I always have some sort of stress, but I haven't felt really stressed lately, at least not consciously.
Ugh, I don't know what is wrong with me.

I have exactly the same thing! I get light headed when I get up too fast (and also sometimes for no reason) and I get migraines alot! I feel u, bc I go through it as well and wouldn't wish it on n e one!!:( I hope yours feels better soon! That is weird that u posted this today, bc I just got done taking a migraine pill about an 1/2 hr. ago! Sometimes even the migraine pills don't work and I'll take Excedrine Migraine. That works wonders some days!
Some days its so bad the sun hurts my eyes when I step outside!
Next time u go to the doctors u should get a cat scan or MRI. (I should take my own advice, I never go 2 the doctor! )
My niece had them very bad and we found out she had a tumor! (She's only 13 too! They removed it not even a yr. ago and she is doing soo much better!) Scary huh?

Are you sure you are eating properly? You can get dizzy spells and headaches if your blood sugar is too low.
I hope you feel better!

Probably not as well as I should
You can get dizzy spells and headaches if your blood sugar is too low.Yeah, I read that somewhere ... this is related to hypoglycemia. But the episode earlier today was shortly after I ate.
I was tested for hypoglycemia, anemia and a bunch of other things a while back and all the tests came back fine.
I haven't had a CT scan to be tested for a tumor or anything, I wouldn't think it is that, but if the symptoms persist or get worse I will look into that.
Last time I went in I was pretty stressed and even broke down in the Dr's office. She suggested I talk to a therapist to help with the stress. I didn't want to do that and the symptoms pretty much went away ... until a couple of weeks ago.
Like I said before, I'm sure on some level I'm always stressed, but I haven't really been thinking too much about stressful stuff, that I know of at least.
A friend said it could have something to do with me sitting in front of the computer all day. Who know, I guess we'll see what happens.

YOu said it happens when you whip your head back too, have you thought about seeing a chiropractor?? They can often help people with migranes or headaches...sometimes it's just an adjustment that needs to be done along the spine or the neck!! I would also give that a try. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt and maybe just maybe that could be the problem! Good luck Brandi, hope you are feeling better soon! :chicken: :ginger: :sheep:

I find my headaches are worsened and often times caused from sitting at the computer for to long a period of time. Headaches and dizzy spells both at the same time.

So sorry your going through these headaches again. that's terrible. But i would have your neck checked out with a cat-scan or a MRI you never know it might be a pinced nerve or something. It's better to have the test done and find out then deal with the pain. Also your stress might be adding to the tightening in your neck and then the pressing on the nerve. I know b/c I have a very bad back and stress does horrible things to me that more I tense up. Just a thought.

Hi brandi! hope your feeling better??
Not too bad today ... I got up too fast this morning and got the dizziness and have had a mild headache most if the day.

... so do you get a migraine after the dizzy spells??
Sometimes the headache comes the same (when this happens I sometimes get nauseous too) bit more often it comes shortly after.
... i used to take maxalt melts but i started to heve a funny reaction with them and now i have Imigran nasal sprays!! there excellent!! work really fast!I take the dissolvable Maxalt tabs and they work fine, no weird side affects. I probably need to try to get some more.
Excedrin Migraine or Tension headache works well for me too, just nor as fast.

I've had bad migraines for years. They always said stress caused it. Finally I saw a specialist and found out that I actually have a few food and environment triggers. Chocolate, red wine and black mold trigger my migraines. What you have to do is stop eating certain things for a month and then start testing them one by one. Example with chocolate if you eat it on Tuesday and you get a migraine on Friday then Chocolate is the trigger. Don't ask me why it takes three days to affect you, I don't understand that, but since I have started avoiding my triggers, I haven't had a migraine.
Here's a link to the clinic I went to and the diet I followed. Just keep in mind the diet isn't forever, once you rule out what your triggers are you can eat normal again just without those trigger foods:

That is what they did to me when I was 11 and getting migraines so bad I was getting sick to my stomach. They pinpointed mine down to some cheeses (mainly old cheddar!) and a few other things. It is always worth a shot to see if they are being triggered by foods.

I have considered the food allergy thing, but it doesn't seem to make sense how I can go months without a headache/migraine and then all of the sudden get one ... especially if I haven't been eating anything out of the ordinary for me. So the stress thing makes the most sense to me.
A friend of mine mentioned that it could also be blood pressure and/or blood sugar related. I was tested for the low/high blood sugar thing a while back so I doubt it is that. But I did have a slight problem with my blood pressure a while back so that could be a possibility.
My blood pressure is usually fine when I check it once a week or so, but I usually don't have a headache when I check it either.

Even people who aren't diabetic, hypoglycemic or have any sort of issue can have symptoms related to low blood sugar. You just might be hungry and that is how your body decides to tell you.

Yeah, I have had the symtoms when I go too long without eating. But the bad one the other day was shortly after I ate

I always get a migraine if i dont eat for a while!! and sometimes if i eat jaffa cakes ( i think its the dark chocolate) and drink coffee! But not everytime!! I also get them when my blood sugar is low, i dont have diabetes or anything like that but i go dizzy, shake, loose my co-ordination then get a migraine! lol

With the food allergy thing I said the same thing. I didn't think that could be it. When I finally went to this specialist because my migraines had become so frequent and increasingly worse he explained at first the food allery might not affect you every time, but eventually it will. And it could be something you ate three days before that is affecting you. Most of the time I don't remember what I ate yesterday let along three days ago. That's why it's so hard to tell if you have a food allergy or not. So if you continue to have bad migraines it's worth looking into.
is the room spinning when you're dizzy? it sounds like certain positions provoke your dizziness? have you tried avoiding those positions?
