Ok let's see where do I start. Carlos was one of my cousin's bestfriends. We met in 1989 (when I was only 9 and he was 14!) but of course nothing was ever going on. He was almost like a cousin to me for a long time. He would come over to my mom's house with my cousin after him and my cousin would go out to the clubs. But it wasn't until he had moved in with another one of my cousins and his wife that we became really close friends. I would go over to their house and hang out on the weekends, just as friends. Then one night his friends as me and one of mine to go to a birthday part with them. Since I did not know his friends too well I said I would only go if he went. So needless to say he went and we spent the whole time just hanging out with eachother and talking. Then some old slow song came on (which I can't remember what it was) and he said he dedicated it to me. Since that day we have been together. We moved in together 2 weeks after I turned 18 which we already had a baby girl together.

Now this one was a very interesting one. After we had lived together for almost a year we had hit a bit of a rough patch where I had to go back and live with my mom and Carlos moved about 30 minutes away to live with his aunt, our daughter was hospitalized for a little over a week prior in the year and I was out of work to spend time with her so he sold his car so that we would have money. So since he had moved with his aunt we were unable to see eachother as often as we would have liked. So for Christmas 1998 my dad had gone down to where Carlos was living and Carlos asked my dad for permission to marry me, of course my dad loved him so he said yes, but Carlos was so nervous about asking me he talked my dad into giving me the ring and a message from him. Carlos does not share his feelings well so this is the only thing he could do, to actually get it done. My dad asked me to come to his house because he said he had a present for me. I showed up over there for my dad to give me the ring and the message which was the proposal. Carlos was not even there. So immediately I called him and told him YES!

Yes we got engaged in December 1998 but so much has gone on in our lives that we just didn't have the time, money or energy to set a date or plan the wedding. Although I really wish I had done it before all of the losses we have had. A little more background, Finally in July 1999 we were back on our feet and had moved back in together and everything was wonderful. We decided we did not like where we were living so we gave notice in March 2000, moved in with my dad for 1 month until our new apartment (upstairs from my mom) was ready in May 2000. We had talked about finally planning the wedding for sometime the following year. But on June 13, 2000 my older brother that lived with my mom (due to being very sick, he had no kidneys) downstairs from me and Carlos, commited suicide in his bedroom in my mom's house. I was the one that found him and had to take care of everything, needless to say for a long period after that I was in no shape to even think about getting married much less plan the wedding. August 2000 (2 months after the loss of my brother) my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. He had to go through numerous treatments of radiation and chemotherapy for the following three months. And he had to have a hole and tube placed in his throat. In December he had finished with all of his treatments and the prognosis was good, no trace of the tumor or cancer, so they gradually kept changing the tube in his throat to smaller and smaller ones to try to eventually remove it completely. March 2001 we received a call from his girlfriend that she had taken him to emergency and the doctors were not optimistic. When we arrived at the hospital they informed us that my dad had Necrotizing Fascitous (sp?) which is esentially FLESH EATING BACTERIA virus. They gave him a 50/50 chance that night. He actually made it through that night and was hospitalized for the next two months and had 11 surgerys in that time. They had to remove part of his clavical bone, all of his breast muscle and tissue on his chest. He made it through many many more months of surgerys and what not but could barely do anything due to all the pain killers and other medication he was on. So I spent most of my time at his house for most of the year and half following. Then February 14, 2003 3:30 a.m. we received a call from his girlfriend that my dad had passed away in his sleep. So after all is said and done, We finally got through all of that which brings us to today which I would like to have a wedding before I end up with neither one of my parents there.

Aww...sorry to hear about you dad, but you two stuck it out together, and that's the important thing especially with marriage.
I hope all your plans go well, and if you need anything let us know. Congratulations!

Thank you so much, I know it was a long story (sorry) but I thought it was important to let everyone know why we have been engaged for so long and why now we are finally going to do it.

Hey, I've been engaged for two years (Granted not as long) but people kept telling us it was way too long. It's very individual. Not everyone has the money, time, or situations that can let them get married right away...No need to explain, but thanks for sharing, I know sometimes it's not always easy talking about the past!
So let's talk wedding!!! How are the plans coming?!?!

So, it was late August 2006 when I had a dream that my mom had passed away, and my first thought in my dream was "now I won't have either one of my parents at my wedding" I know it sounds selfish but that's what I thought in my dream. So of course I told Carlos and he said "what are you waiting for then, just tell me the date and time to be there and I will be there", of course he is a man! Then that weekend we went house shopping with his mom and she had mentioned getting married as well. And he said again he was just waiting on me. So after we dropped off his mom, I asked if he was serious and he said yes. So the planning began..... We were going to initally just go to Vegas and get married, but when we were trying to figure out who to invite to a Vegas wedding, there we 80 MUST HAVE's from his immediate family, so we opted for a closer place. I must have called 50 different locations trying to find one that was at least reasonable even for LA on the cost. So after receiving many quotes with the lowest at $50 and highest at $200 per guest I found a place. There is a cute little restaurant called the 94th Aero Squadron close to our house that has a banquet room and a patio with a pond that I fell in love with. So I went to meet with the Sales lady and explained now that we are actually going to do it, I want the closest date so that nothing can stop it this time. The closest date she had was March 10, 2007. She was the nicest person I could have asked for, I explained that we were on a very tight budget (although I did not have a set amount) but we were paying for all of it ourselves so I asked her for the very basic package. After talking to her for a little while, she ended up giving me the median package for the basic price, it was very nice!

Well in all honesty it is very hard to talk about the past but I started this journal today to kind of get me on track as to why I wanted to so this again. I am so frustrated with my FH today I was ready to give up. I have done all the planning, arranging and everything else that the wedding requires so far. All I asked of him was to go with me to the tuxedo place to pick out styles that he would like to try on. I have been asking for a month now and he just can't make the time. So last night I kind of lost my patience and told him that if he would like to still have the wedding he is going to have to plan everything out and tell me when to be there instead of the other way around. But I know that is not going to happen.

LOL..Men...they're all the same...Although my FH bothered the hell out of me when it came time for Tux shopping...He needed to have absolute control of that situation...Okay, one less thing for me to deal with..:)

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.
Like Amanda said, you guys got thru it together and that is what matters! Hopefully everything works out the way you want it to, congratulations again!
We also have been engaged for a while. When we get married it will be almost 2 years for us. A lot of people asked why we waited so long. It's just what we wanted to do and I wouldn't change a thing!

I wish that was the case but of course not. His answer to me, is what is one more week going to hurt. I could really hurt him right now. I asked him a month ago when i ordered my dress to go to the tux shop. Finally After Hours Tux kept calling me becuase they got my name from David's I guess it is the same company, so I kept telling the guy to call me back because I couldn't get Carlos to commit to a date and time. Finally after the 5th or 6th call Carlos tells me just do it anytime. The guy finally gave up and stopped calling me. We happpened to be at the mall onetime for a completely separate reason and we stopped in the tux shop, he looked around and said he didn't like anything and they only wanted to let him try on one tux. I finally found another place that would let him try on as many as he would like, I have set up appointments for the last two Saturdays in which he has blown off. I don't know what else to do with him!!!

have you tried to go online to a wedding invitation site and put it on what they call virtual proof and then you will see if you like it or not. A good one to try is www.TheAmericanweddingalbum (http://www.TheAmericanweddingalbum.com just).com just pick out your invite insert your wording and then you will see virtual proof of what it will look like.

I'm sorry about your dad! And CONGRATS on finally getting married! I wouldn't feel bad in the least about a long engagement! On my actual wedding day it will be exactly 2 years since we became engaged, so just join the crowd! BTW....you and I have the exact same bridesmaids dresses, only mine will be in the "pool" color from Davids....great minds think alike:)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
If your FH is anything like mine, he'll all of a sudden say "I want to look at tuxes". Joe and I were in the mall about a month ago and we walked by Men's Wearhouse - he walked in and chose his tuxes in 15 minutes, or less. Now, all he has to do is take the card and get the party registered in December.
Your invite wording is beautiful and I'm sure it will fit on your invite. My wording is longer and I worked it out to fit.
Your ceremony and reception area is beautiful! And....I chose a dress with burgundy on it too! Mines different than yours thought. I'd never seen a wedding dress with color until I picked mine and then came to this site.
I can't wait to see the rest of your plans!!

I am getting down to the wire and still have no idea about any flowers. Here are a few ideas that I am thinking of, but these are silk not real and I am worried about how they will actually look in person. But here goes.

Or a more simple one

And I would like some similar to this one for the bridal party but without the pink.

As for the flowers just as long as you get some silk ones from a person who knows what they are doing you should have no problem. They are gorgous by the way. I love the hairstyle by the way let us know how it turns out when you get it done.

First off I want to thank everyone for all of your comments and help.
But now, I am completely lost on centerpiece ideas! I have looked around and I have seen ones that I like but none that stand out and I think to myself I WANT THOSE! So if I could request assistance in finding some ideas I would really appreciate it. My flowers are, red and white roses (I am not saying the centerpieces even have to be flowers) but just so you know! And I really don't want the normal stuff I would like something very unique but elegant and cheap. I know I am asking for a lot in one, but any help would be great!!!

congrats on the weight loss!
As far as the centerpieces, I was the same way. Totally clueless, even with the flowers. If you are having someone do your flowers you can ask them for ideas which is what I did. She came up with some really cool ideas most that could even be DIY. She is letting us use her vases and a few other things for free (she is one of FH's friends mom) otherwise ours would have been DIY.

Well, I have been away from here for some time. I went to my FH's cousin's wedding in Las Vegas which was nice. It was only about 10 - 15 minutes tops but it was very pretty. It was at the MGM grand so it was nice. I was originally going to have our wedding in Vegas but I would have missed out on so much if I did, even with all the stress I have now I am very much enjoying it. Also, I went to my first bridal expo on Sunday which was okay. I did expect much more from it but it was small, and I personally think they had the ugliest dresses they could have picked in the show but who knows maybe other people liked them. I thought I was going to get some decorating ideas out of the show but there really wasn't too much there so I am still searching. I have no idea what I am going to do for centerpieces or the decoration of the gazebo-type altar area.

On another note, I picked up all of the bridesmaids dresses and I absolutely love them, they are beautiful. although the girls did try them on before we ordered them, they were all in different colors, so now I got to see them in the Apple red all together and they are perfect. I didn't order the flower girls dress when I ordered the rest because her size changes so often, but when i went to pick up the other dresses I asked for the ETA on the flower girl dress if I ordered it then and they said it will not be in until February, so I ordered it!

That is very pretty, I have not seen that before!

Although I know there are many horror stories about Davids Bridal, they have a very useful tool if you are still trying to decide what colors or dress styles you are going with. Although all my colors and dresses have been picked out it helped us make a final decision on the tuxes. On their website it is called Dress your wedding, here is what mine looked like.

I am so happy. I just got in touch with an old friend and found out she just opened her own bridal/flower shop four months ago. I met with her last night to get a price on my flowers in which I got a quote for $800 just for the personal flowers from another florist. She does wonderful work that I have seen numerous times before, now the best part is she said she will do all of the ceremony flowers, (personal and alter area), and the centerpieces for the reception for $1000. I AM SO HAPPY WHAT A RELIEF!!! I still had not figured out what I was going to do but, she offered to do a bubble bowl with a dozen roses and votive candles at each table and a special centerpiece for our table!!!!

As I just stated in my previous post I have been extremely busy with tax season here so trying to do all of my wedding stuff is very hectic. I have began receiving RSVPs and so far they are all yes's. I received the favors I ordered yesterday which are more that I even expected they are so nice. I will try to get a picture up as soon as I can. I started going to the gym to try to tone up a bit before the wedding and that has been nice I already feel better more energy! We meet with our minister tonight so we will see how that goes.

I am extremely busy at work because my boss (the owner of the company) told us last week that he is going into a 30 day treatment facility for Alcohol so I have to take on his responsibilites for that time. Alright I am so stressed out over this now. Saturday was the deadline to have all of the RSVP's in, which I still have some unknowns. I knew that would happen and that is why I put the deadline a week before it is actually due to the venue so that is not why I am stressed. I am stressed because so many people have taken it upon themselves to add guests to the list. One person that I had down for 2, RSVP'd for 6, another one I caught last night I had down for 2 and they RSVP'd for 5. So I had my FH call them (it is his family) and ask who the other people are and some stated that it is their husbands brother in which neither I nor FH has ever met. I am sorry but I would never do this and I am not sure if this is to be expected and if I should not be upset, but now I have close to 20 extra people that I never counted on :(

Saturday was my bridal shower and it was a blast. We had so much fun, there was one thing my bridesmaid did, she had everyone fill out an Advice for the Bride to Be card. I must say this was the highlight of the day. Some of them were cute and funny but some of them we really good. When I have a chance I will type some of them in here, but I also found out by those cards that my FMIL wants us to have another child, in which I have already decided I am DONE!!! So that was an interesting conversation :)

You have every right to be mad over people who are inviting themselves. That is just wrong in so many ways. Is there any way your FH can call his family back who decided to add more people to the RSVP, and let them know that you cannot afford to feed them ect. I hope it all works out for you in the end.

I finally had a talk with my FH and explained to him that this is not right, I met with the lady from the venue and the total is now about $2600 more than orginal due to the increased guests we are going to have to use a different room that costs more :(

Well we finally finalized our ceremony after so many changes. Here is the final.
Our Ceremony
Procession:
Opening/Welcome:
Officiant:
On behalf of Carlos and Summer I would like to welcome you to this celebration of their love for one another. Each of you has given something special to their lives. Your love and encouragement will forever be appreciated. Thank you for sharing one of life's happiest moments with them. Let us join in our love and support of them as we honor them with our prayers for their continual happiness.
Prayer
Officiant Choice
Intro:
Officiant:
Carlos and Summer the relationship that you have nurtured together stands for love that will blossom and grow with each passing day. The key to a successful marriage is remembering the little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day. It is never going to sleep angry. It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years. It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together facing the world. It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy. It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel. It is not looking for perfection in each other. It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is finding room for the things of the spirit. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal. It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.
Officiant:
Summer, do you take Carlos to be your husband? Do you promise to love, adore, and encourage him? Share the good times and achievements as well as the hard times and disappointments? Keep him in sickness and in sorrow and to be loyal to him forevermore?
Summer:
I do.
Officiant:
Carlos, will you take Summer as your wife? As your companion and best friend for life, will you treat her with love and devotion, honor and respect? Will you stand by her in the good times and achievements as well as the hard times and disappointments, as a faithful and caring husband?
Carlos:
I will.
Ring Ceremony:
Officiant:
May I have the rings please?
You are about to present a ring to each other. The wedding ring, a complete circle, is the symbol of the completeness a husband and wife find in a marriage relationship. The ring has no beginning and no end, just as true love is never-ending. The ring also is made of precious metals, just as true love is a precious treasure. As you place the wedding ring on each other’s hand, may it not only remind you of the endless love you possess for one another, but may it also be a reminder of the precious gift God has given you to make you complete.”Carlos and Summer the vows that you are about to exchange serve as a verbal representation of the love you have promised to each other. For it is not the words that you speak today which will unite you together as one, but the inner sense of love and commitment that each of you feels within your soul. No other human ties are as tender, no other vows more sacred than those you now assume.
Summer:
With this ring I give you my promise that from this day forward you shall never walk alone. My heart will be your shelter, my arms will be your home. We will walk together through life as partners and best friends. I promise that I shall always do my best to love and accept you exactly the way you are. With this ring, I give you your freedom and my trust in you. I give my heart until the end of time, I have no greater gift to give.
Carlos:
With this ring I give you my promise that from this day forward you shall never walk alone. My heart will be your shelter, my arms will be your home. We will walk together through life as partners and best friends. I promise that I shall always do my best to love and accept you exactly the way you are. With this ring, I give you your freedom and my trust in you. I give my heart until the end of time, I have no greater gift to give
Unity Candle Ceremony
Officiant:
The two lighted candles symbolize your separate lives, your separate families and your separate sets of friends. I ask that you each take one candle and that together you light the center candle. The individual candles represent your individual lives before today. Lighting the center candle represents that your two lives are now joined to one light, and represents the joining together of your two families and sets of friends to one." Carlos and Summer come into their marriage relationship as individuals and they do not lose their identity, rather they use their individuality to create and strengthen the relationship of marriage. Therefore, the three candles remain lighted, one for each of them and one for their marriage, as symbols of their commitment to each other and to a lasting and loving marriage.
Music to start: From this moment
Final Pronouncement
Officiant:
For in as much as Carlos and Summer have consented together in wedlock, and have witnessed the same before this company, and thereto have engaged and pledged their love for each other, and have declared the same by the giving and receiving of a ring and by joining hands, I pronounce that they are husband and wife. What God has joined together, let no man put usunder. You may kiss the bride. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Carlos M**** husband and wife.

Well, I am getting married 12 days from today. It seems like yesterday that I started planning and it felt like forever until the day would be here but now it is going to be here so fast. I picked up all of the dresses from the alterations department Friday night and the last pieces of Jewelry for the bridesmaids. I am going today to pay the balance of the venue and submit the menu. I think I am also going to call the bakery even though I know the check was delivered, just to confirm again over the phone. My bridesmaids and I are going to finish wrapping the favors in the tulle and with ribbon tonight so I will try to take a picture and post it. The only item left to purchase (i think) is the unity candle holder and I think I am done. Note I say I think because I am pretty sure I am missing something I just don't know what it is. I am going to print the programs tonight as well....

Here is a picture of our cake, ours will have small red trim around the edges of the roses.

The cake is so pretty & the red will really pop on that white icing.

I finally just today picked out my band. I have had my engagement ring since 1998 and since my hands are so small I really didn't want to add a completely separate band. So I decided to go with a wrap and I love it. Here it is.

Well, I had seen a post about the farmer's almanac about a month ago on here so I had checked it to see what the day was supposed to look like for my wedding and it had said rain. Although I know I couldn't stress over something I can not control I was still a little upset that there could be a chance of rain. So I looked up the 10 day weather forecast and it says it is supposed to be 76 degrees with mostly cloudy so I am happy.

I wanted to order the bridal party shirts but never got around to it, so last night I was at the craft store and found some items and made them myself. I think they are so cute.
