View Full Version : The mysterious knife set....

Here's a mystery for you....a few weeks ago, I ordered some clothing from J.C. Penney's, including a black and white dress that I wanted to wear for my bridal shower. When I got the dress, it had a hole in it, so I returned it to the catalog department and they reordered it. The next day, I ordered two pairs of pants and a sweater online (I have a heck of a time finding pants that are long enough).

This past Thursday, I come home and there are three bags on my porch from JC Penney. One had a heavy box in it and the other two were light, like they had clothing in them. I open the first one with the box in it and the packing list says "Black and White dress". I was on the phone with mom and told her not to hang up yet, this is probably going to be funny when I open this box that is supposed to be a dress. I open the box and find a knife set with a knife block. Mom was laughing hysterically. We decided that wearing knives and a block to my shower probably wouldn't be acceptable at the restaurant.

I hang up with mom and open the second package, it's my black and white dress, with no packing slip or paperwork. I open the third package, it's the pants and sweater, with the proper packing slip.

So, now, I have a knife set that I didn't order - the sticker on the set matches the invoice number on my dress packing slip, as does the sticker on the actual dress package.

Both Dad and Joe wonder if someone bought us something from Penney's and shipped it to me and Penney's goofed up the slip. It would be easy to check if we had registered at Penney's, but we didn't. I sent a long e-mail to them last week about it to see if they can figure it out, or if the knives were just mis shipped.

Can you see me going into the store trying to return a knife set with a packing slip for a black and white dress?

LOL to funny sounds to me like it was a mix up in the shipping dept. Glad to konw that you got your dress though and your other outfit. I would just go ahead and use the knives.

Ellen - St. John's Bay at Penney's are my favorite Tall clothes. I can buy the jeans in the store, but not the cords or the khaki's.

And yeah, free knives sounds like a good deal, but....what if someone did send them to me and I never acknowledge them? And...if I just kept them and didn't say anything, it would bug me. However, if Penney's ignores me and never answers me, then......we got a wedding gift from Penney's.

Update on the mysterious knives....

I received an e-mail from Penney's, thanking me for my e-mail and telling me that they have no way of knowing where the knives were supposed to go and that I could take them back to my local store and tell them that it wasn't my order.

Are they serious? They can't pull up "Shipped To" and see if something was supposed to go to me?

Idiots.....

It seems as though someone somewhere at Penney's would have some sort of record of who bought those knives. Otherwise, looks like you got yourself a gift there girl!

Tall pants? I hear ya on that one! I can usually find jeans I like but the cute stuff (cords khakis etc) I guess we're SOL on that one. SOMETIMES New York and Co has talls. It really depends on the store I've found that the NY&Co stores in a high end mall tend to get the different lengths, go figure!

That's bunk! :snide: Excuse my frankness but some moron doesn't want to take the time to trace the package...I would hold on to them until Penny's can come up with something better than that or someone may mention them and then you would find out if someone bought you something from Penny's on their own (without a registry).

Good luck hon! Thanks for the info....I wear St John's Bay and Worthington from Penny's and have luck with them.... other than that my casual wear is limited to Levi's (yuck) and Wrangler's or Twenty X's....that way I can chose the 32-34 length. Old Navy is good on their long lengths but if I get them to fit my hips (baby got back LOL) they are too big on my waist.

How tall are you? I'm 5'11.

If they can't figure out why they were sent there, I would just keep them. They very well have been a gift from someone and they goofed. I would kind of mention to family and friends about the situation and maybe someone will say they bought it so you will know who to thank..... if not, then I guess you did get a free gift from Penneys

I am holding on to them, until I figure it out, or they charge my credit card. I agree, they don't want to take the time to do it. I used to work in retail, you can find out just about anything on their systems.

And...I'm 5'9". Joe doesn't understand why pants shopping puts me in a bad mood.

Well I hope you find out where they came from. I thought I was the only one who could get mad shopping for pants! Oh well...long legs are historically desirable....now if I could keep my butt from getting big I'd have something LOL!

That is so bizzar that they can't figure out where the knife set came from. But hey.... new knives!

For pants that are long enough.... try lulu lemon. They have great clothes for tall. My friend is 6'1" and it's a nightmare for her.
