I am curious to see or hear how everyone decorates for the holidays! We previously had a small 2' tree and last year I did pink and silver for the colors. This year we plan to get a full size tree (7'), but I still don't know what colors I want to use.

Girl you know I'd bite on this one! LOL
-Lots of lights (indoors we live in an apartment) around the living room and dining room.
-real tree! white standard size lights and blue marquis size lights, all snowman ornaments from the tree top to the tree skirt. We may add snowflakes in white and silver this year.
-snowman decorations everywhere else.
In case you didn't figure it out, I collect snowmen!

Our tree is pretty cool, it has a color cd changer at the base for the fiber optics, there are I think 10 different color wheels, mine and Fhs stockings have chipmunks in them that when you press them they sing here comes santa clause, the cats have just plain red ones, I have little nativity scenes and all kinds of different types of decorations that really dont go together, but I dont care I just love all the decorating!!:)

This isn't really a decor idea, but a tradition in my fam is homemade stockings. We acutally buy the felt, and use sequens for the letters in the name, and for the edging. We make little things like candy canes, snow men, or presents out of colored felt and sew them on. They are really neat.

What is the difference between standard and marquis size lights? I have not heard of marquis lights.
Speaking of stockings, when I saw my dad last a couple of weeks ago, he gave me my childhood stocking. No more stuffed stockings from the parents after I'm married, I guess! :snide:

We have a 6 1/2 ft tree that is fake. Me and the kids have the lights that play with some x-mas tunes. And we decorate it with all of the oraments that the kids have made throughout the years and some of my childhood oranments. Also we have a couple of nativity scence's, some snowmen, Mostly santa clauses for the other decorations. I use some garland and run it throughout our living room we put lights up in our windows. We don't decorate outdoors b/c we live above our 3 stall garage. ( and I hate heights and FH hates decorating). In the end my living room, dining room and kitchen are scattered throughout with X-mas stuff of all kinds. I can't wait until after Thankgiving dinner so we can start decorating for x-mas.

Standard lights are the little ones that people normally put on their trees and usually outside on the house and such. Although I have seen bigger bulbs that people are starting to use now.
Marquis lights are big round bulbs that you see on a marquis board. I think I may have a picture....
Yep, here it is:

The maquis lights are very hard to find. I got them about 3 years ago and didn't buy enough. There are only 15 lights to a strand and I only got 3 strands. We may have to change the blue lights for the simple fact we lose one or 2 a year for breakage.
Hope that clears it up for ya! :)

The look really cool spaced out over the entire tree, esp if you have a lot of the smaller lights. I really hope we can find them sooner or later as I will be totally bummed if we have to stop using these lights!

We don't do anything Santa related at our house. Our tree is decorated with my favorite colors ... silver, pink, purple and blue. Here is a pic from last year ...

Here is a pic with the lights off ...
http://www.ramblingsofme.com/tree_no_flash.jpg
Then we put up lights on the outside of the house ... it is simple but we like it. DH says he wants to put some more lights around the house this year.
http://www.ramblingsofme.com/house1.jpg
We also put a wreath on the door, I put this one together a couple of years ago ...

This will be the first year with the dogs, I wonder what they will think of the tree.

Yeah, now I have to come up w one. The only thing I can think of is J's fav way to answer the phone. "Murray's mule barn, which *** would you like to speak to". But that's not really a slogan.

Since this is our first christmas together in our house we have several decorations together. We have decided to put one tree in the living room with victorian decorations on it. Red poinsetta's, white lace for ribbon, red bow for top and that sort of thing. One tree will go in the foyer with the homemade decorations that the kids have made through the years. And the children will have a tree at the top of the landing upstairs. They can decorate it as they choose. We also have a large (the size of a person) Santa that plays music and dances which we will place next to the tree in the living room.

Oh pretty! Your house is very nice I love the tree! Good job on the wreath!
When I put up 4 trees at my old house (LR, Kitchen, Mast Bed and Bath) Charlie (the Min Pin) did well with them...she used to sleep under the "Apple" themed tree in the kitchen!

As for the dogs, I figure they will be scared of it at first. If we have any problems I would guess it'd be Roxy trying to chew on it. We just got a new tree and she will be in trouble if she messes it up :p But they are rarly left unattended.
We will have to move their food/water though, this is currently in the spot where the tree goes, they may not be happy about that ;)

Is this the first time they've been around a tree??
You may be right about them having to move their food/water. Hopefully they don't drink out of the tree stand! Our cats did that!
Other than that I wouldn't be too concerned about it other than them having a new place to sleep like Ellen's did.

Is this the first time they've been around a tree??Yes, I'm pretty sure ... definitely a first for Roxy, but Enzo has a Christmas with the breeder, I don't know if he saw a tree with her or not. But even if he did, it has been a long time.
You may be right about them having to move their food/water. Hopefully they don't drink out of the tree stand! Our cats did that!We have an artificial tree, so no worries there ;) The Pug I had several years ago use to drink the tree water at my mom's house when she had a real tree.
Other than that I wouldn't be too concerned about it other than them having a new place to sleep like Ellen's did.Yeah, probably ;) I kind of hope they do fall asleep under the tree, I think it would make a cute picture

When I lived alone, I used to decorate my tree in white and blue. Mostly white lights, with a few blue ones, and blue and white ornaments. DH is a fan of the every color! So, since we've lived together, we have mixed our likes. For example, we have white lights that cover the entire tree, as well as our tree topper, and then the colored lights worm their way through the tree. And our ornaments are wide and varied. We always have a real tree... wouldn't dream of anything else. I love the smell, hate the cleanup! But, it's worth it!

We always get around a 6 ft. real tree. I love the smell! I don't really have a themed tree, but I'd like to do a silver and red one. I really want to buy a nativity set this year. I just love them and I'm looking for the perfect one. For my centerpiece on my table I have a crystal bowl that I put shiney round ornaments in. It is really gorgeous. I'll have to take a picture of it this year. I also have a red table clothe and sparkly green placemats. To top the table off I have red and green plates and poinsettia napkin rings. On the house we put up white lights. I really like the ice sickle lights, but we don't have those.

Well for starters i always have to have a real tree aswell. I love the smell of it. When I was growign up my mother always had blue lights on our tree. I have nothing against blue lights I just got sick of them. I have big colored light. The ornaments are a mixture of things the kids made, things others gave me or made for me ( I love homemade things ). I have a few unicorns as I collect them. The tree topper is an angel made out of plastic canvas that my Grandmother made. I got it my fisrt Christmas in my own place and it has been on every tree since. I love it. As for the house, i have aall kinds of things, any thing that is Christmas. Santas, snowmen, reindeer, wreaths, you name it it will be found some where in the house. I have a new place to decorate this year so I will have to let ya know how we end up doing it.

I am super excited because this is our first christmas together and the first time we will ever have a tree. (the ficus last year didn't cut it)
Mark and i are definatly not themed tree people. I love the way they look. But we both want a memory tree. We have ornaments that we made when we were kids and from the different places we've travelled or ones that represent the things we love. We have multi-coloured lights on the tree and i am going to try ribbon rather then silver garnalnd (i worry the cat will eat it) The other thing i want to get for our tree is some little birds to sit near the top or some butterflies. My mom always had them when i was growing up. So it just feels right to do it for my own tree.
The family tradition Mark and i are going to carry on is he is going to make our stockings. (with my guidance) We are going to make them out of white felt for the sock and then blue for the top and our names in white.
I am sooooo looking forward to decorating the house for christmas for the first time! I love it!
