Quick question I hope.....
When do you start your registry and how many stores do you register at. Shawn and I are inviting 250 guests and about 150 of them live in Jeresy while the remainder of my family lives here in PA. I'm not sure when, where, why , or how my bridesmaids are throwing the shower since they insist on it being a surprise!!! (they're the best!) Anyhow, when should the fun of registry start and how many stores should I register at???

What I've typically read is that you should do it 4-6 months before the wedding. Some ladies on here have done it sooner because of engagement parties or people asking. I registered 4 months out and it was a waste of time to do it that soon. It has only been in the last two weeks that anything has come off of it and it's really only a few things even now with my shower on Saturday.

I would suggest registering at 2 or 3 stores. Look at the different locations of the stores so that it is convienient for most of your guest. You can't please everyone or make it 10 minutes from everyone, but try your best to make it convienient for as many as possible. Trust me you will probably hear complaining about it no matter what.

We registered 13 months before our wedding only because our family wanted to buy us things in time as they went on sale. The only problm that can occur though is something you register for now may not be around by your wedding or showers. For example dishwear. We have this beautiful place setting but already it says "limited quantities" on the web site.
We've registered at 3 places for 3 different styles. We have one department store, one home store, and an all purpose store. My family just complained that they didn't want to buy at one place and blah blah blah!
It's so much fun though!!!! I love runnign around and shooting everything I want with the little price gun! It's like a pretend shopping spree lol.

I did my registry about 8mo. before my wedding. Only b/c everyone wanted to get me stuff so they say when it goes on sale and my BS is 2 mo. before the wedding since that is the only time my sister that lives in another state can come up before the wedding. I registered at 3 stores. Best of luck to you.

i'd suggest registering at places that can have items purchased online as well (macys, jcpenney, bed bath and beyond, etc) that way if it's not close to your friends/family, it can still be purchased. macys i think has a good guide of how much stuff you need, you just enter how many guests.

We registered about 8 months out, basically because we wanted to have fun. We have registered at Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart.

So many of you ladies have registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. We don't have that ehre, but I am going to New york in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna have to check it out. I'm assuming it would be similar to our hoem outfitters here where I've registered.

It's a great place! I registered there too! They have everything!

I just began my first registry last week athough the wedding isn't until November (11mos.). The only thing we were prepared to choose were the linens, but we did all the preliminary forms. If possible, choose a store that allows you to edit your registry online so it's less of a fuss if you decide to change the color of your linens or something small.

The consultant was impressed we were thinking about it so early - he said that to do it well, a registry takes 5 hours to compile! I don't know whether that's true, but it does make sense b/c you are choosing the stuff you are going to use everyday for a long time. Anything I can do now to reduce the time I spend returning duplicates next year will be worth it, I figure.

And running around the store with the scan gun is alot of fun, even if you have worked in retail like me!

A year before the wedding isn't really bad. That way, the guests can take advantage of sale that the stores are running throughout the year. Picking 2-3 stores preferably those near your guests residence is also a great idea. As for me, I think I will register to online stores. Most of my friends are on the other side of the planet and i can't just pick out 10 stores to make everything convenient for them.
