We are going to have around 250 guests at our wedding and we want to do the catering ourselves. Does anyone have any good ideas for DIY Catering for a large number of people?

Thanks

Buffet style, put all the food out on a table having steam trays to keep the food hot. YOu can have around 4-5 hot dishes of your choice a couple of salads and then some vegi trays. Also you can make some watermelon boats with some fruit in them.

I have to agree... Buffet style is probably your best bet.
Do you have anything particular in mind?

Yes, buffet style is defiantely your best bet. Be sure to check with your site and be sure they allow you to bring in food. Some places do not. For that amount of people I would suggest doing something like fruit and cheese trays, snack sandwichs, and other finger foods. One neat idea some people have thought of is dessert receptions complete with a chocolate fountain! Yummy! Be sure to have plenty of help and make sure you find a place to store all of the food the night before. That is going to entail finding extra refrigerators!!! Good luck!

I agre with the other fine ladies with a buffet style.
On TV a couple weeks ago I was watching a wedding show and they had like 400 attend their wedding and they had more of a cocktail party but with a full super. Guests were able to walk around and eat and get what they wanted liek a buffet. They also had some servers walking around with other stuff. It looked as though they got more food out of that then anything else, and they were the ones to organize the food.
We're having our dinner made at the hall, but for apps and what not we're alowed to bring all of our own in with us. We're just gonna go by the supermarket and get soem club packs of different stuff and have them heat it. And at 11pm we're gonna make some mini sandwiches for thiose who might not want sweets.

We are having around that many, and we are doing buffet and having shreded pork. Some of it will be BBQ and some will not (Yuck I hate BBQ)

We haven't really decided on little dishes though, but that is our main plan of action :)

I agree with everyone else in that a buffet is the way to go. Me, I would just do hor dervers (sp?) Have a couple of hot items like, meatballs and chicken kabobs ... a veggie tray with dip, a cheese tray, some rolled meat (like lunch meat, ham and turkey) then a bread basket and a fruit tray.

I had a family friend...along with my mom cater my wedding. I think we had like 115 people though. We put together like three tables, and just spread everything out...like everyone else said...a buffett! LOL!

It did go over pretty well, I guess, except some stuff got covered, and did not get eaten, so the only words of advice would be make sure to have PLENTY of room!

I would have to agree with everyone else and say buffet.
Seems to be the best way to go IMO.
