Hey all you DIYers! I know this board is full of them, so I was wondering if any of you girls had ever made your own candles, wedding or otherwise? I was thinking about hot pink candles as centerpieces on black tableclothes for my reception, but cannot find any that aren't incredibly expensive! So I thought about making my own, but am a little nervous about it!

Any advice, suggestions, or horror/success stories?

I've done it!!!!!!!!!! Wheat shape are you using?
I've always done mine first the melting, I take a large empty can (cleaned obviously lol) and then put the wax in their with the colouring.
Fill a pot with water and boil it. If you find that the water's taking foreer to boil, add soem salt. Make sure you keep stiring the wax in the tin.
I've found for larger candles if you don't want to use a form (go to Michaels they have a great selection) use an old washed milk carton. After it dries the carton can just be pulled away.
At the bottom of your form, aff the wick holder (buy this don't cheap out TRUST ME!!!!!!!!!) And make sure you keep the top of the wick upright by wrapping it around a pensil or somethying.
If you wanna be even mroe creative you can add flowers or shells or rocks to the inside of the candle by placing them into the form.
Quite often if you find a candle store they will be selling their wax pieces for next to nothing. If you go and buy the wax it can sometimes get pricey.
Good luck!!!
PS..... Make sure you try the die before you make a candle, just incase it's not the right colour, and because it's such a hard colour you don't wanna mess it up.

I wanted square pillars-three different sizes, to sit on mirrors and put rose petals around the bottom...you make it sound much easier than I thought it would be!! I will definitely be trying this first, way in advance, so if I can't do it I can find an alternative lol. Thanks!!

I have tried it too, and it wasn't too bad. I had this kit thing that I used that included the wax and the wicks. The only problem I had was keeping the wicks from melting and getting bent inside of the melted wax (before they were hardened). So I would def. get a wick holder if you can. I know that the kit i used had hot pink in it, so I am sure there is a way to do it. Good luck!

Instead of buying a wick holder you could always tie the wick around a pencil and lay the pencil onto the candel holder until it dries.

We are not making candles, but we are glueing crystals on the unity candles. They turned out beautifullly.

The wick holder I'm talking about is the one at the bottom of the candle. A pencil is deffinetly your beswt bet i agree 100%!

Ya Kevin says that in order to love me one needs to learn how to speak "Lindsey". I go into the store and ask where I can find the refills for the "cachunk-achunk-a gun" also known as stables or brads for the brad gun lol.
