Hi, I am a teacher in Taylorsville, NC and I am wanting to start my own business. I would like to open up a Bridal/Prom Boutique. I have spoken to several business owners and they tell me I need to visit apparel shows to purchase the dresses.

I am still very new to this, and a little confused. If anyone has any information on how to contact the dress companies, or tell me how I receive the merchandise to sell I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello and good luck on trying to start your own business. It's a lot of work but this is what I did. I hit all the wed sites I could, contacted the companies and spoke with any rep that would talk to me. Clothing lines are harder to get into that what I do, a consultant but check with your friends to find those people that are at home seamstresses. Thats how I found my best dressmaker. That and she was my son's babysitter.

Hello and welcome to the board leslie2881.

As franhiggins said, starting your own business requires getting the word out, and calling lots of people. If they turn you down or don’t call you back keep calling!

As for finding wedding dress designers check out our wedding dress site: www.oneweddingdress.com. In each designers portfolio you will find a link to their website, from there you could contact them via email or phone.

I also have seen vendors at www.onewed.com that do sell Prom Boutique via the net at a low price, talking to them could be a good start.

:D Also my sister has been a designer for many years. I don’t know if she is still in the business but I could give her a ring and have her PM if you would like!

Don't know much about that type of business, but wanted to say hello. I am a former teacher in Arkansas who opened a home-based baking and cake decorating business. I wish you the best. Diane
