Well Ladies I'm finally at thaty point in my planning where I can start to think about dress shopping. Mind you I'm not gonna go next week but I would like to know if anyone knows when the best time to start dress shopping? I have quite a while but IO was thinking maybe Christmas time would be a good idea. Has anyoen gone at this time? I really don't want to wait too long as with my luck bad things will follow if I wait. I do know however to give them an earlier wedding date. I've had far to many friend order gowns and BM dresses and they leave it to the last minute to arrive.
Any info is VERY welcomed. Thanks girls!!!:)

I ordered my dress about 7 1/2- 8 months out. and then we just decided on BM dresses this last weekend (about 6 1/2 months out) They aren't ordering them until thanksgiving though. You should be fine if you wait until Christmas, but don't forget that there will be a different style of dress in around Christmas than there would be now, because of the season, so depending on what you want may determine when you go.

Very good point!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm actually planning to first visit to bridal outlets here in the GTA. They have added dresses for the season, but because they're an outlet they still carry the same dresses. I'm such a cheap deal hunter, but man oh man, if I can save money I will!!!!! They have dresses for like 1/4 of the price.

I actually ordered my dress 1 1/2 years before hand... a couple months after we got engaged cause I loved the dress so much and I didn't want to pass it up. It's a corset top so I won't have to alter it except for length so I was able to order mine that far in advance.
My bridesmaids dresses we just order this past weekend and I have a little more than 7 months to go. They are suppose to only take about 2 months so we should have them in plenty of time.

My wedding is in December and I bought my dress back in January. I just went to look and found the perfect dress! I bought it off the rack so I did not have to order it or anything. I got my BM dresses ordered in August and they came in around mid September.
When I went looking in January the stores were prettty slow. I didn't make an appointment and I had no trouble getting lots of help from the consultants. My consultant said it starts getting busy in the late winter because people are getting ready for spring and summer weddings.

I went late november. If you go during the weekdays they aren't that busy. They say that one of their slower times too.

I too got my dress about a year and a half before the wedding!!!
I needed this dress, and the lady told me that it may not be here much longer! She lied, It's still there, but I already have mine, so no sweat!
The only problem was, is my dress is soo heavy that I was advised to lay it flat so it wouldn't pull the sleeves, because it was going to hang for such a long time!
Good luck! Happy dress hunting!

Our wedding was June 3, I started dress shopping about a year out and bought my dress in August (about 9 months out). We accidently waited until March to get the BM's dresses and had to pay extra for a rush order.
Some wedding dresses can take 6 months to arrive from the time you order it and I would leave at least 4 weeks for alterations (that is 7 months total), so don't wait too much longer!

I agree with Melissa. I think it is generally reccommended to start looking about a year out. Maybe just casually start browsing now.

Chances are that I'll be buying off of the rack, because the main places I'm looking are outlets. But thanks for the tip, I figured it would take quite a bit of time. My BM are going in March and again I will by lying to the shop saying that I'm getting married in August not September.

I've actually got a couple of styles in mind that I absolutly LOVE!!!!!!! I even have the dress numbers. But like I said before it's one thing to have it set in my mind what I want, then I'll try it and I could walk out with the absolute opposite lol.

Definitely start looking around now to try and find the style that you want, but I wouldn't purchase anything quite yet as the styles will change...Have fun shopping though! That was my favorite part!

Hey Lindsay...
In the GTA Bridal & Beyond had a ton of dresses and they have a couple sales a year. They are on Dundas in Mississuaga.
I started looking in the end of August for my dress. And i ordered it mid October i belive. I got mine at Elmwood Bridal in Aurora. They were really nice there. Lots to pic from and my BM's dresses i got at Newmarket Bridal. They were also really nice and easy to work with.
I would recommend though.... if you can go during the week. It's much quieter then on Saturdays. It never hurts to start looking. It might take you a while to find the perfect dress that makes you feel like a princess!
Have fun shopping! :whoohoo:

Thanks for the info!!!!
So far I know that I'm going to go to Toronto Bridal Outlet. I fell in love with some of their dresses and they are soooooooooooo unbelivably cheap in comparison to what I have seen so far!!!!!
I also came across something in the newspaper for another outlet in Mississauga, the name escapes me now though.
But I'm gonna go and just start to browse and see what I like.

I bought my gown off the rack it was not planned that way but I found the one I loved. It was about a year before the wedding. We are ordering the BM's dresses the end of Dec. which will be about 7 mo. away from the wedding they told me it should only take 3-4 mo to come in. Have fun shopping.

I ordered my dress late July of this year and my wedding is not until June of 2007. So basically 11 months ahead of time. With the designer I chose, the dress will take at least four months to arrive (since the designer is from Australia). So keep that in mind. Happy hunting!

I have heard that most bridal shops have gown sales in August and February, but it makes sense that they would have sales around the New Year like other retail. Happy Hunting!

I am ordering mine and BM dresses online and I will be placing the order at least 8 months before the wedding.
