Even though I don't like it, ALL speech should be free speech. If we start limiting it, where would it stop?

Unfortunately, when you allow for free speech, it includes all kind of speech. I wish that people didn't have so much hate in their hearts and feel the need to share it publicly, but I would not want to take away anyone's right to say how they feel about anything. Once you start limiting it, it's no longer free speech.

Great explantion, Maria. Free speech is free speech. We are all free to speak our minds, however, sometimes it should be kept to yourself..

Hate speech should not be tolerated nor should people be free to speak about it. If they have something to say about they can speak freely in thier own home.

i also believe hate speech should be just left at home, we have enough hate in the world why start more by voicing it to anyone that will listen

I agree ... however, when that 'hate speech' starts affecting the lives of others is when it crosses the line KWIM? Like sometimes you should just keep your mouth shut, have your hateful opinion, but keep it to yourself.

Yes, all speech is free. Its one of our rights as an American to have freedom of speech...but yet you hear all of these occasions where someone speaks their mind about the government or the president or something, and they are punished for it. I think that is wrong.

All speech is/should be free IMO. If you don't like what someone is saying then don't listen, that is also your choice.

There is a line you can cross when it comes to free speech. You can get into legal trouble when it comes to slander for example. It can also come to a point when it becomes harrassment. If someone made sexual comments about you every day they could say they are just using free speech. But it would affect your life and then it becomes sexual harrassment and not free speech.

Hate speech is protected under Free speech.
Like Kacie said, there is a point where something goes beyond free speech and goes into harrassment.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, whether we like it or not.

While I wish there was a way you could ban hate speech, you would not be able to do that without opening a huge can of worms. Once you ban it you will have an endless parade of defining what is actually hate speech.
Free speech is exactly that, the freedom to say whatever you wish. I just wish that there werent any people with that much hate in their heart.
