Marcy Gant

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police said an Iowa woman wanted a wedding gown so badly that she would have traded her child for it.

Davenport, Iowa, police charged 31-year-old Marcy Gant with one felony count of sale of an individual. She is accused of trying to sell her 4-year-old son.

They said Gant bought a wedding dress from a local street vendor, paid part of the tab, and offered her son to make up the rest of the balance.

"During negotiations for the payment of this wedding dress, on at least two occasions, Ms. Gant offered her 4-year-old son as collateral," Capt. Dave Struckman of the Davenport Police Department.

Neighbors said they were shocked.

"(There is) something very mentally wrong with her to think that that is OK," said Angie Bruce, Gant's neighbor. "(If) those children go back to her they're in danger. That's just not acceptable if the state lets her have those children back."

If convicted, Gant could face 10 years in prison.

Gant's 4-year-old son and her 10-year-old son have been taken into protective custody.

It's odd... because I've heard people do that a ZILLION TIMES. I worked at a photography studio and people have said to me "I'll trade you the family for just the pictures" and other things like that. I've heard it a LOT, and I've always taken it jokingly even if they were upset with the stress of the kids and all. I wonder if she was just.. doing the same thing and people called the authorities on her. Weird.

I have had four miscarriages and I probably cant' have anymore children thank goodness I have one daughter but I want a baby with my future husband soooo bad hearing things like this makes my blood boil there is never a need to treat a child like that I hate people like that, there was a girl in town here who tryed trading her daughter for drugs and child and family had to step in what the f*** is wrong with people, children are a gift and we are the blessed ones who are given this gift we shouldn't try to throw them away like that!

Weirdo ... I wonder how the story really went and if she was really joking. I hear it alot, the kid is being bad and someone says "you want a kid" KWIM Who would really offer their child as payment for something, especially openly, you'd have to be really messed up in the head.
