As some of you might have read our honeymoon/vacation started out with a small glitch. Jerry received his paycheck as we had planned but they dated it for the next day. so this caused us to have to wait till midnight to cash it and go finish our shopping for the trip. So it started out with little or no sleep for us. But nothing would damper our spirits for it. We met up with the other couple we were going with and finally got to leave around 9 am. I forgot to mention they also shorted my check some hours and pay when we went by to pick it up before leaving. We planned on 8 am but it didn't work out. I might add for those that do not know we were heading to Talladega, AL for the Nascar Nextel Cup Races from Friday till returning on Monday. So anyway we headed out. All smiles and giggles (even though we were already tired).

These were taken about one hour into the drive.
We had a lot of laughs on the way there. We always laugh when we travel. Here is a few pics of the trip there. I loved the one of the street name. We thought it hilarious. Jerry has seen it numerous times, but the one time I had went it was well after dark.

This one was of a lake about 5 miles from the end of our travels.

We got to Birmingham and they had the entire roadway blocked off for a parade of some sort. We had to wait about 30 minutes for it to open back up. We had traveled about 300 miles at this point. The countryside was very pretty and we loved it. We arrived in Talladega around 3:30 pm. We were hoping some of the people we had camped by last year were there again and holding us a spot. No such luck. We drove around for awhile trying to decide where we would camp. Naturally we wanted close to the showers and porta potties. But so did everyone else. haha. We finally found our spot that would have to do for us.
This is Jerry putting up our tent. It took us about 2 hours to get our camp area the way we liked it. But worth it.

This is our friends we were traveling with. Notice their daughter's number 8 (dale earnhardt's jrs number) which is tanned into her face. They had her face painted and when they didn't wash it off she tanned around it.

Picture of Jerry after finally getting tent put up and everything into place. I spent most of the time watching him. It was comical to see. he was so tired. I did help on occassion.

After getting camp set up and making it feel like home (for it would be for the next 3 days) our friends decided to head up to souvenier city. We looked at one another and said we would wait till morning and then go. We did not feel like the walk. Our camp area was about one mile climbing hills to get to the souveniers. We had not ate for hours at this point. so we hung around our camp and fixed supper and of course drank some beer. It is a blast to just sit around an open fire and watch the passerby's walking and driving. The place is one big party for the entire time you are there. We actually at this point were to tired to even party. We ended up going to bed that night at 9pm and it was terrible. We had bought two blow up air mattresses to sleep on and a heater for the tent. The temps were down in the 40s that night and the only sheets I had brought were satin. What was I thinking??? Our bottom air mattress slowly started going flat throughout the night and we ended up piled on top of one another and feeling as if we were sleeping in a giant taco. :) Let me tell you now, if you don't want to be on the bottom of the taco don't sleep with a man who weighs more than you. :)

After a pitiful night of sleeping (i guess you could call it that) we arose around 6:30 am. Stiff, sore and freezing to death. But we still had huge smiles on both our faces. I fixed us a huge breakfast of fried potatoes, bacon and eggs on our new coleman cookstove. Afterwards we got dressed and headed up to souvenier city ourselves. We had a blast. All except for the fact that I had forgot to bring my tennis shoes and had to wear the flipflops I had. I ended up covered in blisters. But still smiling the whole way through.

We spent about 4 hours walking around and buying some souveniers for the day. I bought myself the cutest little shirt to wear the next day. Jerry bought a huge flag for the truck for the ride home. We had smaller ones on it on the way there. We got back to campsite and had time to change clothes once again before the truck racing started.

We walked back to camp (as i think i already said) and changed clothes. Packed our cooler and headed for that long walk again. I have to say the sound of engines drives me crazy. Their is nothing like it in the world. And the smell of that fuel is to die for. haha. Jerry said it is the second sweetest sound in the world (next to I love you baby). We watched the truck races and had a blast. I took way to many pictures to post of all of it. The trucks lasted about 3 hours and we went back to camp once again. Got supper fixed and sat around the camp fire drinking our Bud Light and Budweiser (in honor of earnhardt jr.). Now for those of you who have never went racing it is one of the biggest redneck sports out there. Everyone drives around all hours of the night and the men offer beads to any woman who will show their boobies to them. While I have never ever done this before I had told Jerry to expect me to let my hair down and enjoy myself come heck or high water.
Notice the beads around my neck. I have to admit it was a lot of fun. Jerry was told numerous times what a lucky man he was. haha. He just sat there with this silly grin on his face eating it up.

then he had to have another few beers.

After all the nights excitement we called it an early night again around 10 pm. We just can't party like we used to. :) But this time we had thrown away the flat mattress and turned the heater on and slept well. Well as well as one can sleep with a bunch of rednecks yelling all night long drunk. I woke up around 3 am because I think it go too quite. The silence was deafening to us.
The next morning we done the same as the day before. With the exception of taking showers. Their was still no warm water at 6 am. That was the most invigorating shower I have ever had. But can't wait to do it next year. The races were starting at 12 pm so we had time to sit around and wake up. and just relax. You are still allowed to take coolers into the seating area as long as it is cans and not bottles. So we packed a huge picnic lunch and lots to drink. After all we would be up in those stands for at least 5 hours. And when you are up in the seating that high you dang sure don't want to travel down often.
The race was the best one I have ever seen. Jr. had it won. It came down to the last lap with him in the lead and on the 3 turn before the finish line Jimmie Johnson pulled out to pass. Johnson's own teammate (who was behind him) crashed into him causing Johnson and Jr. to wreck and himself to win the race. I almost cried. I was so upset as was everyone we were sitting around. they started throwing beer cans onto the track. it was awful. Quite honestly if I could have had a pitching arm like that I would have thrown one too.
Here is a picture of us right before the races started. Notice the huge smiles on our faces. We were both in heaven.

I have never in my life seen fans go so crazy. I guess you just have to be a fan to understand some of it. After it was over we headed back to our camp and cooked out our porterhouse and t-bone steaks. It was wonderful. When we first got back Jerry sat me down and took care of my feet. The year before when we had gone he gave me foot rubs. this year instead of rubs he doctored the blisters on me feet and he done all the cooking. I sat back and was waited on hand and feet. We watched the drivers planes flying out and took some pictures of this. Listened to everyone saying how Jr. was cheated out of the win. and continued our wonderful time. I can't wait to go next year, but have to admit we were both ready to get home. No matter what sleeping in a tent and showering in a cold shower is not something we would like to do all the time. But it was the best vacation/honeymoon either of us could have had.
