Hello, I am new to this forum although I've been reading and getting tips and advice from you guys for a couple days now. And I thought it was about time I joined!
I guess I can start off by introducing myself. My name is Brandi and my FH is Craig. We're both 24. We are getting married on June 2, 2007.
Sorry this post may be long, but I will introduce ourselves further by telling you how we met and how he proposed since I've read all of your stories. :)
We actually met in our 5th grade class a couple eons ago. We became instant friends and even "dated" in 5th and 6th grade. We remained good friends up until our freshman year of high school when I moved out of state. And since we were so young we lost touch after I moved. Then in January 2002 (after a year at another college and being undecided about college in general) I went to look at a small technical school here in my hometown. As I was sitting in the front reception area filling out paperwork, he walked by. He simply stopped to say hi and see how I have been since it had been about 6 years since we've seen each other. Then he proceeded to class, I presume.
The admissions lady saw that I was talking to him and asked if I knew him. I explained that we went to school together when we were younger. She said that he was in the same major that I was looking into and if it was alright with me, that she'd give him my e-mail address if I had any questions about the school (they are big on current/previous students talking with new/perspective students). So I told her that it'd be alright with me. So we began hanging out and becoming friends again and eventually a year later, we started dating.
I have to be honest though, that throughout high school and after graduation, I always wondered about him and wanted to get in touch with him but never actually went about doing so. I've always had a "crush" on him since I can remember but we never really went beyond friends besides that "dating" in elementary school.
And as for the proposal. It was June 2005 and I was graduating that day from the technical school where we both met that last time. (He had graduated from there 2 years prior to me graduating). Well, it as graduation day and I had graduation that afternoon and then had a party for my family that evening. My house sits in front of a park and after we ate and had graduation cake, he asked me to go for a walk with him. We walked all the way to the other end of the park, the whole time he was looking very nervously around the park (obviously for somewhere to propose) and I started getting nervous, thinking that today was the day. We walked all the way to the other end of the park, crossed a stream and ended up almost directly behind my house... then all of a sudden he got down on one knee and simply asked "Will you marry me?" Of course I said YES! I had no clue up until we were walking through the park. Then we went back to the party. My mom, his parents and my grandmother knew what he was doing but my dad and the rest of my family had no idea. So we celebrated some more with champagne! My dad simply said, "I don't feel old because you (looking at me) graduated college, I feel old because YOU (pointing to Craig) made me feel old with your proposal."
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to become more active and offer such great advice and tips that I've seen so far on here. Although we're in our finishing stages of planning since we've had 16 months to plan so far and have 8 more to go.
