Katie & Alex - Couldn't Have Been More Perfect

I figured that since Alex is in bed and I'm not the slightest bit tired since we are home...I would start on my wedding day story for all of you to enjoy. :)

Wednesday, September 27th

Alex and I had the car already packed up and ready to go on Tuesday night. We woke up at 6am and got ready for our busy day ahead of us. We went tanning for the last time before getting married, off to fill up with gas in the car and get my oil changed for the many miles ahead of us in the next week and a half.

We ended up getting back into town at about 10am. We stopped by Alex's parents' house to help his dad with a few things and then off to run out errands. We had to stop and talk with our photographer on her morning lunch break about a few last minute details, then down to the florist to make sure we had everything that we needed for the big day. Then we drove over to Galena, IL to get my parents' gift certificate for part of their gift. We ended up eating lunch at McDonalds in Galena, just like our first date together.

We came back to my parents' house and started helping my mom with last minute decor and such. The rest of the day was getting things ready to go.

I tried on my dress with my new undergarments and they worked out perfectly....even better than the first set.

At this point, I'm still not excited about the wedding or the least bit nervous.

Thursday, September 28th

We awoke at my parents' house at about 7am. Today was pie baking day.

Alex and I had an appointment at a salon for myself to get my eyebrows waxed and Alex to get a professional gotee trimming at 10am. We awoke and sat around for a while...then comes the first stress.

My mom was on the phone and we going to start baking all the mini-pumpkin pies at about 8am. She got off the phone, only to look out the window and see Alliant Energy (the electric company) pulling up in front of the house. My mom started freaking out. Alex went out to find out if they were going to be shutting off the power or what was going on, then informed them that we would appreciate it if they would keep us informed on the goings-on because were baking 180 pies for our wedding on Saturday.

Turns out the electric company was replacing one of the poles with the transformer on it and would need to shut off power later in the day. They kept my mom very well informed on what was going on and such, and it ended up that they didn't turn off the power until Friday morning.

My aunt came up to help my mom bake all of the pies, and the pies were finally finished at about 4pm, with only a total of 6 pies that were screwed up.

Alex and I didn't end up having much to do on Thursday, because my mom didn't want any help in the kitchen, so we ended up going car shopping for Alex and out to lunch.

On Thursday night, Alex got an idea for the garter removal and we were on a mission trying to find an item we would need for it...after a long hard search, we found the item we were looking for at close to 10pm.

Friday, September 29th

The day of the rehearsal....and still not the least bit nervous.

Alex and I didn't have much to do on Friday. Thank goodness for my mom who took care of pretty much everything for the wedding plans and I didn't have to worry about a whole lot.

I had an appointment at 11am to have my complimentary hairstyle done for the rehearsal. I went in saying that I wanted to leave my hair down in spiral curls and just the sides pulled back a bit. And I came out absolutley loving my hair!

After my hair was done, we left and went back to my parents' house where we waited for people to start showing up. I ran down to A&W Rootbeer to get Alex and I some lunch (since my parents had zero food in their house) and Alex and my dad started carving out all of the pumpkins for the table centerpieces at the reception. Right when they were finishing up with that, my sister arrived at the house and ranted about how she loved my hair so much. Jessica arrived at about 1pm.

Jenny, Jessica and I left to go and get out manicures and pedicures done. A TON of fun. We all wore out name shirts that I made for everyone, and everyone at the salon raved about how much they loved the shirts and thought they were so cute.

Right after we got out nails done, its was perfect timing to head up to the chapel to start the rehearsal.

We got up to the chapel and my dad was rushing out the door because they forgot fishing line to tie on the chair decorations...stress number 2.

We got into the chapel and had to discuss how the music was going to be, who was going to stand where and ended up running through the ceremony walk through at least 5 times.

My brother was boss of the whole deal. He was pushing people around and yelling saying "Dammit, now we need to be serious here. I'm going to start writing out employee action reports!" Cracked me up! Everything turned out wonderfully.

Reception Decorating

After the rehearsal, we all drove out to the reception site to decorate out there. I think we had close to 10 or 11 people there to help and decorating was finished in an hour, unlike the 2-2.5 hours like we originally planned. We found that we were a few flower bouquets short and a table cloth short, so between the decorating and the dinner my sister, dad, and mom had to run out to get those things so my mom could take them out in the morning when she dropped off the pies, caramel apples, etc. All in all, everything went very well.


Rehearsal Dinner

After the decorating and all was finished, we headed to downtown Dubuque to the Town Clock Inn for pizzas. We ordered like 5 16" pizzas and I told my brother that would be WAY too much food (my parents, sister and BIL weren't there yet)...but yet we all cleared out the food pretty fast...all of us were STARVING. While we were there another HUGE group came in and we had no idea what for...come to find out the next day, they were having their rehearsal dinner as well....because it was the people that got married at the other chapel at my ceremony site earlier in the day! LOL! Plus I knew the people because I had went to school with them! LOL! Anyways, we all partied down there and had a great time until about 10pm, then we headed back home. Alex dropped me off at my parents house and he took my car and headed to his parents house for the night.

I thought that I would have a hard time sleeping that night....hell no, I was out like a light!

Saturday, September 30th
THE BIG DAY!

I had set my alarm for 6am. My alarm went off and I'm like "Ugh, do I really need to get up this early...nope." And reset my alarm for 6:30am. LOL! I woke up, took a shower, got online quick and then headed off with my moms car to pick up Jessica at her hotel to go and get out hair done. I thought I would wake up the morning of and be like "Oh my gosh! I'm getting married today." Definitely not...more like "Humph, off to get my hair done."

We met my sister at the salon at 8am. The stylists took us back. Jessica and Jenny didn't have pictures of what they wanted, but had ideas in their head of what they wanted...and it turned out perfect.

While Sally (my stylist) was doing my hair, I was telling her about how everyone loved my hair done the day before. And shes like "Ok, here is the decision point, up or down." She started messing around with it and I'm like "oooh, I love that." And we went with it.

After we all got out hair and makeup done, we went over to my sister's in-laws house to drop of the car and we decided to all go to Village Inn for breakfast. I figured I wouldn't be able to eat anything, but I just scarfed down my food. It was hilarious walking into Village Inn and everyone is looking at us wondering what the hell we were doing.

After we finished eating, it was about 10:15am. We had to drive to downtown Dubuque to pick up all of the fresh flowers from the florist. The florist was SO excited because they never have the bride come in and pick up the flowers from them, so she went crazy taking pictures of me holding the bouquets. I was SO pleased with how the flowers turned out...absolutely goregous!

THE BIG DAY cont...

After we picked up the flowers we headed back to my parents house to chill for a while. We showed off our jewlery and shoes and then my parents showed back up from putting the finishing touchs on the reception site. It was time to get into my wedding dress.

I thought that this would come the point, if no other, that I would become nervous. We got the dress on (took forever) and my sister was just in awe. Everyone loved the dress and so glad that I went with my hair the way I did.

Then it was time for the girls to get into their dresses and decide how we were going to tie the ribbon around their waist and such...they looked goregous in their dresses!

Then the hardest part of the day, getting me in the car to drive me down to the river for pictures without wrinkling my dres....what a joke! LOL! We got there with only minor wrinkles in my dress.

We got down there and the guys were no where to be seen...a little miscommunication on which area by the river. We started pictures and everything was great. Beautiful day outside, not too cold, but just a little too much breeze for my liking...but did bring out a few nice pictures (or at least I hope so...I can't wait to see my prof. pictures!)

We ended up getting all of our pictures done by the river early, so we went up to the ceremony site, did a ton of pictures there and then just stood around waiting for the ceremony to start. It probably looked weird for the guests when they were arriving and Alex and I were standing around greeting all of them, but it was nice to have some time to talk with people and give them hugs as they came in.

At this point, still not the least bit nervous.

The officiant stopped to talk with us and went over a few things with us. Now it was time to start the ceremony. Alex had to walk the mothers to the front of the chapel, and then the wedding processional started.

Here is where I get nervous. It wasn't until I walked to the open door and my dad fluffs my train do I get nervous. Oh my gosh, this is really it! I'm getting married!!!!

And 12 minutes later it was done and over with. My sister said that our ceremony, start to finish, was 12 minutes long! LOL! That just cracked me up! I said I wanted short and sweet...and thats what we got. The only thing that got kind of screwed up was that our officiant kept getting tongue tied...but other than that, wonderful ceremony! Followed by a nice receiving line out in front of the chapel.

After everything was finished at the ceremony site, my brother said "Now everyone just follow me." My brother took my parents car, and then we had a caravan of Jessica with her boyfriend in Jessica's car, Alex and I in my car and then one of our friends, Kraig, in his car. We all ended up at Las Margaritas Mexican restuarant (best Mexican in Dubuque) for margaritas. Everyone had margaritas (yummy...I had a banana one)...a few people (Kraig especially) were a little tipsy when we left.

Then off with our caravan out to the reception site. Alex and I had a few pictures taken with our photographer out on the golf course (I can't wait to see those pictures!) and then it was ready to be announced into the reception.

The Reception

We were announced into the reception...everything was great, then it was time to eat. Yum yum...but I had to pee so bad (alcohol does that to me) that food wasn't very appetizing....but ****, it was good food. Jerrad gave his toast, nothing special...and then my sister's toast. She is such an awesome sister. I love her to death...she was bawling her eyes out by the end of it, and got Alex, Jessica and myself teary-eyed listening to it. After the dinner, I got to go to the bathroom! Yay! I stopped and talked with my fellow techs from my clinical site that came (love those girls), took a few pictures with my mom and then started out first dance....after the few dances in the beginning...it was non-stop dancing the rest of the night. I was out on the dance floor most of the night and our DJ was just awesome! They played all of the right music and kept it going.

By the end of the night, Amanda and my brother were completely smashed. I won't go completely into that whole story....but wow! They were both being SO emotional about everything....it will make for some awesome memories though.

Thanks girls! I was out dancing like the whole night! I think I only sat down for 1 song! And if I wasn't on the dance floor dancing, I was probably dancing through the tables in the reception hall. His last name is like Lunsmann. He is originally from Burlington, IA. Not sure if that is near Danville or not.

Summer: Yeah, my package I bought at my tanning place has a ton of credits still left, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to try and keep it up...I probably won't go as much, but I'll still go a few times a week.

As for honeymoon pictures...unfortunately, I don't know how many I will have. Our computer took a **** when I was uploading them and I don't know if we can save them off the old computer. We just bought a new computer tonight....so hopefully we can salvage the pictures and other files off of our old computer.

My aunt just sent me some more pictures that a few family members took at the wedding, so I'll post those up in the next few days.

I guess I should tell you fine ladies about our honeymoon.

We were planning on leaving early Monday morning but we got back to Davenport on Sunday evening and decided we would just leave and drive part of it. So we left and drove just past Peoria, IL and stayed in a hotel in Morton, IL. We left early Monday morning to finish our drive. We got into TN at like 3 or 4pm their time. We walked down the strip and rode some go carts and went into some shops, and purchased our tickets for the Dixie Stampede dinner show.

Tuesday we went up to Gatlinburg to the Ripleys Believe It Or Not museum, Ripleys Aquarium, Ripleys Haunted Adventure and the Star Cars museum. The Ripleys Aquarium was AWESOME! The Star Cars museum was this guy that builds a lot of the cars for movies (like the Munsters car, the Back To The Future Delorian, the Fast And The Furious Eclipse, etc) and he had them in a museum. We took a lot of pictures there! LOL! And then Alex asked to see if he could look under the hood of the Eclipse from F&F and the lady opened it up for him. We left Gatlinburg and went back to Pigeon Forge. We killed some time before going to the Dixie Stampede. I'd already been to it, but Alex really liked it..and we had awesome seats.

Wednesday we were so pooped from everything we did on Tuesday all we did was go around town doing go-carts. We went on this Jurasic Jungle Boat Ride thing that was right across from our hotel. It told the story of dinasaurs ruling the earth and such...it was pretty cool. And we did this package deal at this place across from our hotel as well to ride their go-carts, play laser tag and do blacklight mini-golf. That was a ton of fun. We drove up to this awesome Christmas store so I could look around and ended up buying my ornaments for my ornament exchange with my family. The rest of the day we just made popcorn in the hotel room and watched TV because we were so wore out.

Thursday we left to drive back home. The original plan was to stop in Indianapolis and stay over night...but Alex decided we were going to drive the whole way back. I was really cranky by the time we got back. We did stop at White Castle on the way home to eat (because we had never ate at one) and we were not impressed.

On Friday, after we were back from TN, we went car shopping for Alex and spent over 10 hours looking at cars and then he finally made his decision at 6:15 at night! LOL!

I think I went to over 10 shops before finding it to try it on. I was always in love with it when we first started planning, but I couldnt' find it to try it on to make sure it would look nice on me...then of course, it was the 2nd to last dress I tried on when seriously dress shopping, and I just had to have it!
