hey ladies,
I have had some trouble with getting my s.s. card with my new name.
My work will not let me take off any time to go and get my new card, so I was wondering if anyone knew the procedure for mailing the info. in.
would I just make a photo copy of my marriage license, and my birth certificate?
This really sucks! I work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the social security office is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
I do not know what my work expects me to do.
Also, does anyone know if there is a time limit to how long you have to be married before filing your taxes otgether??
I live in Missouri.

You can do it by mail but you have to send in the originals. They cannot be copies...

that sucks. I cannot mail my originals, what if something happened to them?
I'm at a loss. Should I tell my job to deal with it, cause I'm going, or suck it up and take a risk at losing my marriage license???

iF YOU DO GOD FOR BID LOSE YOUR ORIGINALS YOU CAN GO TO THE LOCAL COURT HOUSE IN YOUR AREA AND REQUEST ANOTHER COPY BUT THERE IS USUALLY A FEE TO DOING IT THAT WAY. I HAVE SENT IN ALL MY ORIGINALS TO MY SS OFFICE HERE IN NY AND I GOT THEM BACK WITHIN 4 DAYS OF SENDING THEM OUT.

I have never heard of a problem with the SS office, but that doesn't mean the post office doesn't lose mail... I always recommend going to the office but if your job won't allow it, you don't have much of a choice.. Could you take a lunch break?

If you are worried, send them by courier or by registered letter with a signature required.

For this, my friend's accountant suggested that you don't do it until the first full year that you've been married. So, that would mean that you can file you 2007 taxes together, but not your 2006. At least that was the suggestion in NY.

We only do federal taxes here in Texas, but we are filing together for 2006 even though we will be getting married in December. The reason we are doing this is because I have not and will not be working this year. I am also a student so it will help us out in the long run. We will probably getting money back this year. Last year Justin had to pay in.

I work at a license office here in Missouri, but I am not too sure about SS. I am almost positive that you have to send your originals in to them, though. Would they take a certified copy? I know we can.
