Hello Everyone! Im new! I wanted to start a journal about my life with Ryan! So here it goes!

It was snowing on December 31st 2005 while I was working as a part time waitress at a high class restaurant. My boyfriend at the time was at my house sleeping. I was nineteen and didn't want any part of that relationship with him anymore. We broke up more than plenty of times. It was a dead thing we had. I mean, come on, who doesn't want to come out to see his girlfriend at a nice bar while the new years ball is being dropped?!
Well to make this story a little shorter, the drop finally happened and it was very exciting because, I worked for Greeks and this was the first new years for the new restaurant. With everyone kissing everyone else I kind of stood off in the corner. It wasn't very busy so I asked my boss if I could leave (depressed as i could be). Ofcourse he let me go and so i left. As i was getting into my car i noticed i had a missed call from my girlfriend. i called her back and to my surprise she was actually still out. She told me where she was so i decided to meet her there. She also told me that someone there wanted to meet me. "thats wierd".
When i got there I noticed a guy leaning back on his barstool, casually, like he owned the place or something, and smiling over my way. My first reaction was thinking there was something wrong with me or this guy was just trashed. Well I seen my friend and she was talking to me a little and then she said I want to introduce you to someone. She introduced me to her boyfriend’s best friend. At first I was like no way was she doing this! I had a boyfriend all ready, but I guess everyone knew including my girlfriend, Brenda, that he was totally not worth it, except me of course. Have you ever been in a relationship where you always think the person is going to change, and it’s just not happening?
Yeah, So anyways, to make this story even ten times shorter…
His name was Ryan and he was a total match for me. Everything we ever did in life, how we were raised, our beliefs, our views on different things was the same. And not only that, but we lived in the same development as kids and played on the same street and never knew it. I guess because I was ten and he was sixteen. Talk about destiny, fate, circumstance or whatever…that was it. Then it hit me. I have a boyfriend. Well I will be honest and say that Ryan and I hit it off that night, shared our first kiss, and I still went home to my boyfriend. Three weeks later our relationship ended (with other help) and I started to see Ryan.
I have never dated a guy before that was so smart and intellectual that I decided for my parents to meet him. They loved him. In fact my father said, “Are you sure you like him?” Like I said, I have always dated idiots in the past.

So that is how we met.

A year and three months later...
It was the beginning of spring and I was so sick. High fever stuffy nose, don’t feel like doing your hair sick. SICK! But of course we had this huge dinner planned out for Ryan’s parents in Philadelphia at a nice classy restaurant. And of course I had to get dressed up. He was wearing a suit and we lay in my bed all morning and early afternoon discussing what I should wear and he didn’t say a word. So finally narrowing it down to the last second I decided to throw on a suit pant outfit. BLAH!
It was Ryan’s parents’ 45th anniversary dinner party and we were treating them to a nice late lunch/dinner. Oh how could I be so dumb? Last year their anniversary wasn’t in April?! Stupid me didn’t think about that. Right before we left my mom asked me if I was sure I wanted to go and if I felt OK enough and I just shrugged it off and said what else could I do. She handed us a card for his parents and we were off.
I had to drive because Ryan had lost his license and was suppose to get it back today but didn’t (=LONG STORY). On the way to the restaurant ryan faked a phone call in front of me saying that his parents were running late. They were coming from Maryland. So we got to Philadelphia (fifteen minute drive for us) and parked in a parking garage. He asked me what I wanted to do and I told him "I don’t know, walk?" So as we were walking down Market Street, (where the park is and all the horse and carriage ride/tours are), a lady on top of a carriage asked us if we wanted a lift. All of them always ask so ofcourse I thought he was going to say no like always (and I always wanted to ride on one). And he turned to me and said “Do you want to?..since your sick and all…” and DUH we did.
But what I didn’t know is that he had already called the place and had it scheduled for that carriage to be in that spot and for that lady that he already talked to before to be there and ask me if I wanted to go on a ride!Amazing.
So this ride was abnormally long and I asked when it was going to be over and she said this horse is really slow so we will go around a couple of blocks more. I looked at Ryan and said, “Are u sure your parents are running that late?” He just smiled. Something was weird.
After an hour and some change we arrived on the block of where we first started and we get up to get off the carriage and I turn to step down and he says “Not that way, this way”. As I turned around I find him on one knee on the carriage with a three carat gorgeously made diamond ring that he designed especially for me. I don’t know why but I just started to cry so hard. (must have been because of the meds)

After he proposed I looked up and saw my parents and his parents video recording the entire proposal. There was a huge applause from the street and crowd surrounding us. It was a truly emotional moment. Then after staring at my ring and wiping the tears away we went to a reserved garden in society hill to take post-proposal pictures with the parents. Then we had a huge dinner at an italian restaurant with the family.

Pictures to come!

Great Story. I just have a question. You said you met Dec 31, 2005 but were engaged a 1 1/4 years later. Well, that would be around March of 2007. Did you mean Dec 2004? Just curious. I'm weird and notice things like that.

SO HERE IS THE CHECKLIST THAT I STOLE FROM THE KNOT. ILL SHOW YAS HOW FAR I HAVE COME ALONG. YAY!:lafhard:

12+ MONTHS
November 04, 2006 AND PRIOR
Begin envisioning your wedding -- formal hotel or friend's loft? Backyard barbecue or exotic beach? DEFINATELY FORMAL,ALREADY PUT DEPOSIT DOWN ON RECEPTION HALL!http://weddings.theknot.com/images/checklist/icon_exclamation.gif

Decide on a budget (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?channel=planning&keyword=planning&Object=AI980914211805) and hash out who's contributing (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?channel=planning&keyword=planning&Object=AI980914212538). NOT REALLY SURE ABOUT THE BUDGET BUT DEFINATELY KNOW THAT MY PARENTS TOLD ME THEY WERE HELPING WITH HALF OF WHATEVER IT COSTS. SO THATS GOOD

Make sure to insure your engagement ring (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=A60127152156). DONE! DH INSURED IT FOR LIKE A BAZILLION DOLLARS. JUST INCASE. HAHA

Pick your preferences for a wedding date (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI990614152834) and time, and finalize after okaying with important guests, location, or officiant. OKAY SO WE FIGURED OUT THE DATE,NOVEMBER 4TH 2007,BUT TOTALLY UNSURE ABOUT THE TIME RIGHT NOW. HOWEVER I KNOW THAT I HAVE TO INCORPERATE(however you spell that word) THE SUNSET INTO MY PICTURES.

Begin interviewing wedding consultants (http://www.theknot.com/wp_cities.shtml) (if you'll have one) AND / OR start asking family AND friends FOR local wedding vendor recommendations. I DECIDED TO PLAN MY ENTIRE WEDDING MYSELF. I THINK I AM PRETTY CREATIVE TO DO THIS SO...

Brides: It's never too early to begin thinking about your gown. Start by figuring out what style will look best on you (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?channel=fashionkeyword=fashion&Object=AI980914202153). BOUGHT MY DRESS! OLEG CASSINI. PICTURES TO COME LATER

9-11 MONTHS
November 05, 2006 through February 04, 2007

Scout out reception sites (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI91103124659&keyword=SITES%20%26%). PICKED AND LOVE IT SO MUCH!

Start looking for an officiant who suits your style and spirit. HE WAS MY YOUTH PASTOR GROWING UP, HES AN AWESOME GUY AND VERY COMICAL. WE EVEN START OUR PRE-MARRIAGE COUNSELING THIS THURSDAY NIGHT! SO EXCITED!

If you're having an engagement party (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI990415161333&keyword=ENGAGEMENT), set a date, draft a guest list, and purchase your invitations. WOW..IM WAY AHEAD OF MY SELF ACCORDING TO THIS. WE HAD A BLAST! IT WAS IN JUNE. WHAT A GREAT WAY FOR THE FAMILIES TO MEET EACHOTHER AND TO GET SOME FUN GIFTS!

Begin working on a preliminary wedding guest list (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI980914211512&keywordType=2&keywordID=164&parentID=527) and decide on your wedding's approximate size. Request lists from both sets of parents and create your own wish list. ...WE HAVE 160 PEOPLE. WE STARTED WITH 395 SO I THINK THAT IS A BIG STEP FOR US. LOL

Get organized! (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?channel=planning&keyword=planning&Object=AI980914213319) Start a notebook/file folder to house all your wedding-planning paperwork in one place. I MADE DH BRING HOME A FILING CABINET FROM HIS WORK. LETS JUST SAY IM A PACKRAT WHEN IT COMES TO SAVING ADDS AND FLYERS AND JUNK MAIL ABOUT WEDDING STUFF.

Choose your bridesmaids/groomsmen (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI91217122324) and ask them to be in the wedding party. 16 PEOPLE. (not including their dates)THATS GOING TO BE AN EXPENSIVE REHEARSAL DINN-DINN PARTY. HA!

Contact newspapers (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?channel=proposals&keyword=proposals&Object=AI990506000023) to announce your engagement (you may need to have an engagement photo taken as well). WE LOOK LIKE EUROPEAN MODELS POSING FOR VOGUE. I CANT BELEIVE I SENT THAT PICTURE IN. BUT YES THIS IS DONE. THE SAME WEEK WE GOT ENGAGED...YES WE WERE EXCITED- I KNOW.

Choose a color scheme, if you so desire, taking into account the decor of the rooms/areas you have reserved for your ceremony and reception. MY GIRLS WILL BE WEARING CHOCOLATE BROWN,AND BRONZE SEPERATES FROM DAVIDS. THE RECEPTION FLOWERS ARE A FALL THEME INCORPERATED WITH MALLARD FEATHERS SUSPENDED ON A CANDALABRA.

Start investigating any ethnic customs or cultural traditions (http://www.theknot.com/keywords/sc_161_527.shtml) you might want to incorporate into your ceremony or reception. I HAVENT TALKED TO THE MANAGEMENT YET BUT I THINK I WOULD LIKE TO DO A PASTA THING? IM NOT SURE. WELL SEE ABOUT THIS -ITALIAN. HMMM MAYBE AN ACCORDIANIST?? WHAT?? WHAT AM I THINKING. HELP!

SO THATS ALL SO FAR...ILL BE BACK FOR MORE LATER..WHEN IT COMES CLOSER. I KNOW YOU DONT HAVE TO TELL ME- IM WAY AHEAD RIGHT? LOL
I WOULD PROBABLY BE MORE AHEAD OF MYSELF BUT ME AND DH ARE GOING ON A PRE HONEYMOON TO THE ISLANDS ON NOVEMBER 3RD. WE PLANNED IT SO THAT IT WOULD BE A YEAR AWAY FROM THE WEDDING. I CANT WAIT. IM SO EXCITED. OH YEAH AND PICTURES TO COME OF ALL OF THE PLANNING SO FAR! ALL ADVICE AND IDEAS ARE APPRECIATED! :p
