Hello!
We're using a film noir/rat pack theme and our reception colors are bright - orange, yellow and pink. For our centerpieces, we're thinking of using martini glasses with clear glass beads and colored easter grass filled with water and a lit candle. To get a better idea of what it looks like, here is an image:

My mom and I are doing these centerpieces ourselves, and she's also looking into doing another that she found in a Martha Stewart magazine, I believe. It was a centerpiece with a box lid wrapped in colored paper with different colored flower heads lined up inside it. I'll post a picture of that when she does a mockup of it.

I think that is very pretty and would look nice on tables.

That's a great centerpiece I love the idea that you have come up with. The only thing I have to say is, if you going to have kids at your reception it will be harder to keep them looking pretty. With the way they are running around and bumping into the table, they may get knocked over. JMO best of luck to you

That is a great point about the kids knocking into the tables, although I think adults do a pretty good job of that too! We'll have to look into that, we haven't completely decided that is what we're going with, but we're pretty sure.
We found the martini glass at the dollar store, and they also had margarita glasses as well. The stones came from the dollar store too! And the easter grass we had already. Cost per item comes up to about $1.50 (used half the bag of stones).

Maybe if you used your glasses but mixed some food color in the water, that would be really nice. You can get food color from the store in the backing section. Also, you should really think of using a floating candle instead of a normal candle. You can find those at Target prrobably...try to get some with a long burning period. Also, try several glasses, two or three per table. Per total, that is a great idea of using glasses you got from the dollar store. Our little secret: a florist would charge you more than $40 for that:)

Hey, now I've got a new idea...you should stop me)! Since we are already talking about food, why don't you try... ta.ta. making jello:) I am serious, don't laugh. that way, you do not have to worry about the kids..in fact, if the table is hit, they will even laugh at the jelloey reaction..only problem...everyone will try to put their fingers in it:) Maybe you can incorporate some orchid heads (they last the longest... and being in some sort of liquid gel, they will not fade) inside...hmm, I am finished, no more ideas:)

I love the martini glasses and the red margarita glasses! Those look great!
For my sister's graduation party a few years back I did martini glasses with a floating candle and some really sparkly confetti around the base and everyone loved them. So when it came time for the wedding, I did about the same thing; wine glasses with floating candles and fake rose petals scattered along the table. It worked REALLY well with the long tables I had. The best part was I got the glasses from the dollar store, picked up packs of floating candles from Target, and the rose petals on sale. Total, all of my center pieces were under seventy bucks - for three 22 foot tables (thirteen glasses on each)!
Here's a pic of what it looked like (the water isn't in the glasses yet - sorry).

Those are all really neat ideas! I was wondering if you could find several different glass shapes and sizes. It would be really neat to have three glasses grouped together in one spot. It would add a little different eye appeal I think. Sorry that I don't have a picture to illustrate my idea.
Also, does the doller store really have glass sets for one doller??

I was in the dollar store the other day and I couldn't belive the awesome stuff I found that I can use for the wedding. Since I've been etching glass I've been looking for cheapo glass and mirrors and in the dollar store they also have the mirrors to place under candles. The dollar stores int he states are so much better then the oens here. Whenever we go to Buffalo we ransack the place!
