I have a couple of shower questions.

1. How far in advance should shower invitations be sent out?

2. For the sign in book do you get a seperate one for the shower and the wedding, or do you use the same one?

I'd say send the invitations out about a month before the shower.
As for the guest book, at mine, they had a little address book for people to sign, that way I had all the addresses saved somewhere.

At my sister's shower, we sent everyone's invites about a month before the shower.

An idea for you: Instead of a guest book, I sent everyone 3 sheets of good quality letterhead with the invites. It was a little more postage, but worth it! I asked that the girls (her friends and our relatives) write notes or add pictures or mementos and about my sister (kind of like scrapbooking) and then sign the pages. Mine just happened to be about a road-trip that she and I took to NY in December of her senior h/s year. Some were just a written note, others were quite detailed, but all were very sweet or funny. I had a three-ring binder that I assembled it all in and then we included mementos and pictures from the shower later on. It turned out to be a really neat keepsake that we put on the guest table at the reception and she now keeps it with her guestbook.

I don't know the exact etiquette, but I would think a separate item worked out better...

The shower host is supposed to send out the shower invites.

Yes, but she would get them out last minute. It is best if I send them.

Usually we do the invites about a month in advanced. At my girlfriends shower she had a little notbook and inside you were asked to write some advice to the bride to be. It was cutethat way. And at the top of the page you wrote your name and address.

Kacie they sent mine out last minute but normally a month in advance is desirable. I SO understand the need to do it yourself so it gets done, good luck with that.

I would say a seperate sign in book...have you thought about having something less traditional...like one of those cute little stuffed animals that come with a signature pen...they are normally used at baby showers around here but I thought it would give you a neat alternative and keepsake! Or maybe a signature platter form Elizabeth (she did our and it was GORGEOUS)...just some suggestions!

Oh! You prolly know this but I'll post just in case....get your thank you cards in advance and pass them out at the shower...have your guests address them personally and that way you have that chore done (huge help) when you go to send out your thank you cards...they can also double as ways to draw for door prizes.

edited to say "pass out the envelopes"...

Not to worry, we will take care of you. :) Better yet, you could become a distributor or our very first on-the-road salesperson!

Hmmm, hold that offer...if this job of mine gets too much (due to a top secret development that I can't share until the press release is out) I may take you up on that....looks like my job is getting ready to become EXTREMELY STRESSFUL!

My wedding is on November 11th and my bridesmaids and mother just had a surprise shower for me this past Sunday the 17th.

My friend planned my shower as a surprise for me, and sent out the invites about 2 weeks before. As for the guest book, she made a scrapbook for me, including the invitation, and pictures of me with each of my guests. The guests then signed the book under our picture and wrote a really sweet note to me. I thought it was really unique and special.
