My weeding is in 8 1/2months and I went once a month ago to find my dress and every one I tried on made me more and more depressed. I am in no way obese, but I definitely am bigger than I want to be. It makes me not want to try any on. I know my fiance loves me no matter what and I'll be beautiful no matter what, but I don't like how I look in any dresses knowing I'm overweight. I can't stand the thought that I might be that big for my wedding. The weight just won't come off...any suggestions?

The weight will definitely come off if you put your mind to it! Luckily, you have 8 1/2 months to work on it. First of all, if you find a dress you absolutely have to have, get it in the size you are...they can ALWAYS take it in! Second of all, if you are really concerned about your weight, go on a healthy diet. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, eat smaller portions more frequently throughout the day. If you eat 5 SMALL meals in a day you will not feel hungry, just make sure it is all healthy food. Also, start walking about 30 minutes every day. Once you start doing this and lose a little weight, you'll have lots more energy and want to do more! I had a baby 4 1/2 months ago and I've already lost 25 pounds! Just don't stress about it. Good luck!!

My FH lost 40 pounds in 4 months. He ate only very lean and healthy meats every other day. Meat has a lot of fat in it. I'm a vegetarian, and pregenant, my Doc says I'm healthy, but I'm not gaining any fat, and that's good at this stage in the pregnancy. The weight I'm gaining is amniotic fluid and baby.

Cut back on dairy, especially cheese. When he got healthy, he didn't eat any dairy whatsoever. No soda, lots and lots of water, get plenty of rest, and something that I've done in the past is have something sweet on hand, something salty on hand, that is healthy, and will satisfy my craving for junk food, but is good for me.. And if I'm good all day, at the end of the night I get one treat, so that I am getting satisfied.

Lindsay is right, eat small meals often and you'll do much better. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, stay away from the fried stuff, and work out. Walking is how one of my GM's girlfriend lost 15lb before their trip to Cali. Walk for 45 minutes daily and there is no way that you can retain the weight.

Good luck, and we're all rooting for you!

I agree. Eat healthily, try to get in a little exercise, and most importantly, you have to BELIEVE that you can do it! Stress makes us fatter (it's true!), so try to relax about it, and make a few small changes. Think about how happy you are to be engaged! You're in love!

Now about the dress... my wedding is in about 8.5 months too... do we have the same date? Mine's May 20th, 2006. I haven't ordered my dress yet either. Keep looking. If you haven't found "it" yet, then you simply haven't found it yet. Keep trying on dresses, and you'll know it when you've found it!

Good luck, be happy!

Yep. Just relax. The key is healthy food that is so good, you don't miss junk!

DONT FORGET SWEETY!!

Trying on dresses that are a size 16 when you are actually a size 12 sucks!

its the way they make them and can make dress shopping totaly frustrating!!

Dont forget to breath.. relax WHEN you can:)

FOR ME..a Plus Size.. it was bad. i am a 18 but was trying on size 22 / 24 dresses!!!

I bought one loved it.. THAT wedding didnt happen in 04.
a year later.. I am planning again for a wedding but I am really excited and am getting a new dress (new fiancae insists... LOve him!) .
I am Not looking forwards to "trying on dresses again" but hey.. I will look fabulous dammit!

I can't tell you how much better I feel already! Thanks for the good advice. My wedding date is May 13 Springbride. This site is really helping me out a lot. I love having brides with the same stresses and concerns to interact with.

I know how you feel. It is very hard for me to take off the pounds too. I'm trying to stay away from pasta and breads because they say that the white foods are what stick to your middle and that is my problem area and I'm not obese either. I just need to lose a little and luckily I have 2 years. Good luck to you.

Yeah, stick to whole wheat and a lot of fresh veggies. My FI's bro keeps trim by not eating within 4 hours of bedtime. He doesn't eat after 8pm, unless it's a special occasion or something.

If you are a drinker, stick to liquor. I've seen lots of girls get pretty heavy from drinking so much beer. Shy away from sugary drinks, and drink a whole lot of water.

I bought my dress in a size 18 because it is being discontinued and the designer only had two in stock. I have already lost two dress sizes since May/June and I will be down to a 12 by my wedding day. My seamstress says she can work my dress to fit me by my wedding day and keep the style to it. I sure hope so! I'm just a picky person. But if I waited until I lost all of the weight I would be out of a dress.

Sad, I know...but I had no choice! Good luck with your weight loss program!

everyone here has given you great advice.. I lost over 15 kgs by not eating processed food, a little dairy and lots and LOTS of water.. nothing after 9 pm, and no eating within 5 hours of each meal.. but walk.. whenever and wherever you can.

Definately good advice from all! My sister is a dietician and has been helping me get and stay in shape for my wed (5 1/2 months) The trick that has really helped me was to drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit and veg! Personally i'm a meat and potatoe girl, so it has been tricky, but worth working towards the end goal. The best way to loose the weight is too think about it like an adventure! Getting married is the best way to get your priorities in order and decide what you really want out of life. i have too many friends who lost weight just for their wed to fit into their dress. Do it for yourself and use the dress as motivation, but carry on the lifestyle change way past the day has gone... but don't forget to live a little on honeymoon

Thank you for all your advice..the diet thing is coming along slowly but surely. Mostly slowly...lol. But I found my dress!!!!!!!! It was exactly how I pictured it to be. I just hope to lose enough weight by the time my last fitting comes around! Why couldn't I have been blessed with better metabolism? Any diets anyone know of where I can lose 30 pounds in a month? lol

I know different diets work for different people, but I lost weight (with my drs supervision) by cutting carbs. The first few days were rough because I craved sweets but after day 3 it was easy sailing. I also lost 15 pounds the first 2 weeks. It was mostly water weight, but I feel better now than I have in a long time. I simply cut out all bread, pasta, and sweets. I ate plenty of veggies, protein and cheese. Oh and drank LOTS of water. i actually think its similar to the Atkins diet. I "cheat" occasssionally, especially here during the holidays, but Im able to go right back to my diet without feeling guilty or messing anything up.

Actually I lost 40 pounds 2 years ago that way...I tried to go back on it and no matter how well I did (no cheating) the weight isn't coming off very easily at all

I lost 30 pounds last year on the south beach diet. It worked like a charm! I lost it in 3 months and didn't do any extra exercise. BUT I gained half of it back over the winter. Dam winter!!! LOL! Actually I went off the diet cause I just "needed" some of those foods back and it didn't take long to gain it back. I just can't bring myself to give them up now to do that diet again. I just started my own diet plan this week. Just like these ladies said lots of fruits and veggies. Healthy stuff and occasionally a treat. I'd love to join a gym too! I don't need to lose alot of weight. I would mainly be happy to get in my size 10 jeans again. I'm a 12 now. My ultimate goal would be 30 pounds, but I'll be happy to fit in my favorite jeans again!! :D

If you ever need any help just let me know. We can be weight loss support buddies(is that what they are called?) Maybe all of us can help eachother. We could post a new healthy recipe we just tried or just give support. What do you girls say?? Maybe we could get the admins to make a special section for this topic.

I for one am NOT a dieter. I love to eat and love my food. I am not overly over weight but I know I could stand to lose a few ( ok a littl emor then a few ) punds. The thign is my mom and my sister can eat anythign and not gain a pund. Me on the other hand. I worked at Dunkin Donuts for a 1 and a half and I absobed the fat into my pores. I am just oen of those people who take on weight easily I guess. I am into a 13/14 pants and I would love just to fit into my 12's again. My big problem is I am always on the run. I have to leave the house ATLEAST 45 mins before I have to be at work to drop the kids off at 2 different places in different towns. I need something fast. And I am sooo addicted to Mountain Dew it is crazy. I know this is one of the big problems but I hate coffee and this is my caffine. Sounds foolish I know. I just love the meat and patatoes. I love patatoe chips. I love sweets in the morning. I love to do arobics. I did it atleast 3 nights a week till I had my kids. Then life took over. I did it untill I was 8 motnhs pregnant with my daughter. And eating my normal meals as i always did and I was in great shape. I dont get home now till after 6 at night and then I have to feed the kids and hekp with hoem work and baths and al that stuff till it is bed time. Then I dont feel like even doing house work forget about excerise. And I CAN NOT get up earlier to do it. I am not a mornign person at all. I love my sleep. I just dont have the time these days. I have never really dieted. Just ate normaly and did a little excersize but it gets harder as the days go on. Ok I ranted on there sorry. I wish I could be smaller but it just is not me. I am happy with my weight. I have clothes that fit and my man loves me any way I am. I just wont let myself get any bigger. I can't actually. I have a very bad hip ( somethign that happened durign birth and wasn't fixed till after i was 3 ) The dr says I will need a hip replacement and told me no contact sports ( there goes my football career lol ) and no exsesive weight gain. It is causign me alot of pain latley and I know it has to do with the little bit of weight i have gained in the last couple of years. Ok I am done now sorry. I wish you all the best in what ever you do to those the weight. Good Luck!

Rainbowtreat we don't have to treat this as a diet program. I don't have kids but I can totally understand that you have no time. With all the running around that you have to do I don't think you would need to exercise. You already are!!!

Do you like the taste of diet mountain dew? That can save you alot. I used to hate the taste of all diet soda, but now that is all I will drink and I like it! weird I know

Hey girl I love my food too :D I don't plan on giving it up totally. I just know I need to work on portion control. And I gotta stop eating all that junk food at night!!! Supposably(?) the best way to lose weight is to eat 5 small meals a day. But they are suppose to be healthy. I don't know but I thought I would give this a try.

I know what you mean about your mom and sister being able to eat anything and not gaining an ounce. My FH is that way. He is always asking me if I want something to eat in the evening, usually junk food. It is hard for me to say no, but I am doing better.

This is kinda my idea for the support thing. We each help eachother out with things that worked for us. Throw out ideas. I don't want it to be like it is on other boards where you start your own journal and keep record of what you ate that day and how much you lost. One thread would be cool though where we can all go for some advice, support........kwim?

CindySue

Becky, your idea makes since. If no one around you is dieting (no one around me has to) then you have no one to give you support.

Yeah I don't have anyone here that is on a diet. My Mom wants to join a gym with me. But she is an hour away and would want to go in the evening when I want to be home with FH. So I was thinking of calling my cousin who is already going to a gym but she is about a half hour away. I could just work out here, FMIL has all sorts of equipment but it is just no fun by myself.

FH dropped 40lbs before we met. Here's what he did:

-Nothing to drink but water (even juice has A LOT of sugar)
-No Dairy
-Meat every other day
-Lots of veggies, some fruit

He would excersise once a day for 45 min, and he lost all the weight in about 3 months. But, then he met me, and he's gained some back.. I was REALLY unhealthy with my eating and whatnot (Ultamate Cheeseburger from Jack in the Box, with a shake and fries, supersized with buttermilk dressing for dinner usually). Now I'm the healthy one, and he has a junk food problem.

I wouldn't worry about the size on the tag. If you truly need to lose weight, you simply need to put your mind to it and FH should be there to support you. I am sure that your FH will not care how you look on your wedding day and that in his eyes you will be beautiful no matter what.
