View Full Version : Just Starting...

I bought the South Beach Diet book and quick recipes book. I bought Bridal Bootcamp 360. I even bought Fitness for Dummies. I've read some of each of them, although less of the recipe book. I have a membership to a gym that is halfway between home and work. I just can't get the umph going to get out and go to the gym. I haven't made the time to go out and make a list of the items I'd need to do the diets. I'm just starting (I have just over 7 months to go), but the combination of wanting to be able to spend as much time as possible with my FH and wanting to sleep as long as possible in the mornings has kept me from getting the motivation together to get active. Oh, and add to the combination the lack of a workout partner or someone to get active with (FH does not have a membership to the gym, mine is expiring in a year and the minimum is a 2 year membership), and you've got an equation that equals me not working out.
Does anyone have any advice on this topic? I know my motivation should be that I want to look my best on my wedding day, I'm just stubborn and can't get myself in gear. :(

Me too Mrsliberty---I just got engaged and the wedding isn't until June '08, but I'm not motivated yet either :bbeek:...but I have found its easy if you do something while watching your favorite TV show...I'll do crunches and squats while I'm watching Sex and the City, so maybe you could try that--its so much easier than getting in the car and going to the gym. Just a thought--but keep us posted on how you are doing!!

I am probably getting married next september (that is the plan as of right now, at least) and i def. cannot get motivated, which really sucks b/c i have A LOT to lose! I have tried to lose weight in the past and have been somewhat successful and what ALWAYS helps is to have a diet buddy or workout buddy. Does anybody at your workplace workout or diet? is there anybody close to you that has been talking about wanting/needing to lose weight? you could also try weight watcher meetings. they have a low carb plan and they def. offer a support group.
As far as spending as much time with your FH, i understand, but before you know it you will be married to him and getting to spend the rest of your life with him! and think about how good you will look and feel! walking an hour 3-4 times a week is a great workout. And it is something you don't necessarily need a gym for and he could go with you. I hope this helps! Now maybe if i could just follow my own advice...:)

Just force yourself. Does your gym have classes? Those are great ways to get into it, they are usu. fun like kick boxing, step aerobics or yoga and many of the same people always go to the classes so you will meet people there.
You will start to look and feel so much better and that becomes motivation in and of itself. Just go consistently for a month and you will be hooked, it takes about 3 weeks to really change old habits and then the new behavior feels natural.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions! This week my plan is to go to the gym before work. This way, I'll still be able to see FH after work. I'm also using the menus from the Bridal Bootcamp360 book which only has a few different ingredients, but several meal ideas.

I'll help motivate you....if you help motivate me!
I need to lose a good 40 pounds. I'd like to be a size 8.

I hope this doesn't sound mean or anything but here's what i would do....
If you have your wedding dress or an idea of what you want, go try it on at whatever size you are now. Have someone take a picture of you and what I would do is if you really hate how you look in that dress, in that picture, use that picture for motivation.
Make copies and put it on your bathroom mirror, your fridgerator, desk at work, anywhere where you will see it. That way it will remind you of what you don't want to look like.
It may help, it may not, but that's what I would do.

Elizabeth - I'll certainly try! :)
Ally - Definitely doesn't sound mean. I've ordered my dress already, but I don't have pictures of me in the size I'm currently wearing. I know that I can have it altered about 4 sizes down, so that's what I'm shooting for. Thanks for the advice!
And finally, some good news! I went out and purchased the foods used in Bridal Bootcamp360 and even made some tonight! It was delicious. Even FH liked it, and he's a meat and potatos kinda guy. I'm also determined to go to the gym before work tomorrow. I figure if I start one day at a time that'll get me closer to my goal. Thanks again to everyone for their support and advice. Hopefully three weeks will come sooner than it seems and I'll have created a great habit for myself! :)

Two days down and I've been eating healthy and exercising! I'm extra tired, but I hear that goes away after a while and you get more energy. I may even be able to get my FH on my gym membership, which would be awesome if we could go and work out together, maybe even take some classes together. Thanks for all your comments and support... it's helping! :)

I don't think it's mean...I took a pic of me in a bikini back (front and back) when I was a 14 going on a 16 and made copies...refrigerator, pantry and snack cabinet...it got my attention and I quit reaching for the junk food!

Good news! I've been going to the gym, working out and eating healthier all week! I'll know Monday if I've lost any weight. :)
