Timothy proposed to me on April 7, 2006 in Columbia Street West. That's right, he proposed to me in a bar in downtown Fort Wayne with a beer in one hand. I was standing in front of him with my back to him, we were listening to music in the bar during the set break of the band PLOW. He had his arms around me and asked me if I would marry him. My first response was, "What?" and I'll always tell you that it was because I didn't hear him, though he thinks it was because I didn't think he said what I heard. He repeated himself and I said yes! We kissed and hugged and I went off to tell my friends.

A few weeks later... he took me out to Flattop Grill and we ate dinner. Before dinner and after we were seated, he took out a gold box and pushed it across the table saying, "Here, see if that fits." (He's such a romantic!) I removed it and there was the most beautiful ring (I had picked it out earlier). Here is a picture of it!

Engagement Ring:

http://static.flickr.com/84/243983437_8196dce5b6_m.jpg

Later on, we went shopping for wedding rings and this is the one I selected that I think will look absolutely beautiful with my engagement ring:

http://static.flickr.com/83/243929428_046ce9e487_m.jpg

And that's the story of our engagement! Some trivia: my grandfather proposed to my grandmother (dad's parents) on April 10 and he didn't have a ring!

Welcome everyone to my journal!

Thanks for the comments on my ring - we did end up purchasing the band yesterday (it's on a sale since sapphires are September's birthstone) so I actually have it! I'm so excited, but my digital camera batteries died and I can't find the charger, so no real life pictures of it yet :(

We were also supposed to have our engagement pictures taken today - our Love Story photo session is actually what it is called. However, when we got to the park, there were 2 weddings just starting. But we did get some great outfits together and know what we want to wear when we get to take the pictures later this month or in October. Our photographer is awesome!

More pics and planning info to come!

does your photographer have a website? i wanna see!

mrsliberty
09-18-2006, 06:53 AM
Yep! My photographer does have a website! She even has examples of the Love Story session that we were supposed to have on Saturday. Ours will be in the next month, probably on a Sunday so we don't run into weddings again. We don't want to interrupt them on their special day. Her website is:

http://www.photo-artistry.com

The name of her company is Photo Artistry by Judy, and she's amazing! The work she has on her website pales in comparison to some of the recent weddings she's done. Our package is the Couples Choice, a new package that she's using. It includes a DVD of all the images she takes in color, black and white and sepia tones, with full copyright release! We also receive a preview album with a photo on the front, up to 10 digitally enhanced images (she plays with photoshop, I could do the same but I'll let her do it since it's included. She's great with colorizing!) and much more! 8 hours of photography time, including going to the B&B that I will most likely be getting ready in with no travel fees. She's great! We're planning on having all of our photos taken before the ceremony, that way we have a chance to get to our guests sooner and we can have a special shot with that first time FH sees me in my gown. I'm really excited about that one.

On to the florist! If anyone is in the area, I highly recommend this florist. The owner is amazing, she has beautiful examples of her work on her website and she's very personable. She's great with helping to plan exactly how things should look, what colors to use, which flowers are in season and planning around a budget. The initial consult is free, and the rest are included with the price, which is VERY reasonable! She'll even do decor at the reception and will light candles during the ceremony at the reception site so everything is perfect when you arrive from the ceremony! So, without further ado, the website for Rose's Bouquets:

http://www.rb-weddings.com

She keeps cost down because she does not have a storefront. She operates from her house and employs mostly relatives. She will do 1-2 weddings per weekend, with the first bride to book her for the weekend having Trista (the owner) herself do the flowers. The other ladies are equally qualified, though and do a fabulous job themselves. After you spend so much, you receive free pinning and other gifts depending on how much you spend. If you wish to not purchase the pinning (if you don't pass the spending limit), she'll teach someone there how to perfectly pin the corsages and boutennieres. Also, she works with a referral program - if you refer a bride to her, she'll knock off a bit of the price. Unlimited referrals available! So if you know enough people in town who are going to be married, you can get quite a deal!

Those are my two primary vendors. Others include the officiant, who does not have a website. He's also doing our pre-marital counseling, and while there are a few drawbacks (he sits right behind a lamp which burns your eyes if you try to maintain eye contact), he's really great! He's a very understanding and compassionate gentleman who knows what it's like to go through what we're going through right now. He's also helping to serve as a wedding planner, because he wants everything to go as well as possible. He also includes the things we highlight as important to us during our counseling in his homily at our wedding ceremony. He's really special.

We're doing the catering ourselves, or perhaps I should say my stepmother is doing it herself. She did the food at her own wedding and is a lunchlady at my sister's school. She's a fantastic cook. We're having a taco bar and deli meat sandwiches. We haven't decided on a baker yet, but we've gotten several quotes. We want three different sized rounds that are not tiered. We're going to purchase the stands in different heights to place each one on, or perhaps rent the stands. The bartender we've hired is a friend of FH's family and the security guards are friends of FH's who will be off-duty, but are policemen.

Oh, and the most fabulous person who is helping us - FH's cousin has agreed to be our day-of coordinator! She's fantastic and she's helping us so much. She and her husband have helped us to find vendors that are very reasonable and probably with their aid we'll be selecting a DJ. They've recommended several to us and we've used their aid to contact the vendors they suggested. With the help of friends and family, we're pulling off such a great celebration! I'm so excited that my marriage to my best friend is going to be such a great time!

We've (ok, I've) started to work on a wedding website for us. I checked out several sites, free and paid hosting, and my favorite is weddingwindow.com. I think this is the one that I'll use, I just have to wait until I get paid again to purchase hosting for a year. It'll take me that long to figure out what all I want to put in it, too! Luckily for me, they have a free 7 day trial, so I've been able to goof around with it a little bit. It's such a pretty design that I've selected! I can't wait until we get our Love Story photos taken so we can put a picture of us on the front page.

Here's the link to what we have so far:

I recently saw a review in a community on Livejournal about company called TitaniumEra.com. I think this is where we will purchase Tim's ring. I'm also going to have his ring engraved, I just don't know with what yet. This is the ring he likes:

http://www.titaniumera.com/images/products/200/136.jpg

It's simple, which is completely different from what he wanted before he tried on rings. Actually, when we went to try them on, I wanted a simple band and he wanted something more ornate. In the end, we chose to go exactly the opposite.

There's a great sale going on at http://www.titaniumera.com until September 21st, if anyone is looking to purchase rings. They have great styles, for men and women.

Our ceremony is going to be starting at 2:30p in the Christian church in the town we live in. We're going to take all of our pictures before the ceremony, and the reception will be immediately following. Tim is going to wear a zoot suit, with a fedora, cane and chains. His vest is platinum with horizontal silver threading. His tie is also platinum. The groomsmen, dads, ushers and ringbearer will be wearing 1 button tuxedos with pique lapels, which match the lapels on Tim's tux. They will be wearing black vests with horizontal silver threading and platinum ties with the exception of the ringbearer, whose vest will match Tim's. My younger brothers are going to be the ones who pull out the aisle runner, and they will be wearing the same vests as the groomsmen, but will not be wearing jackets. The bridesmaids will be wearing floor length gowns in a lavender or dusty light blue color. I had them all picked out, but now I think I want to change them because my younger sister is going to be a junior bridesmaid and they don't quite look right for her.

As for the flowers... those are all picked out. There will be various shades of blues, purples and peach. Here is a collage I made of the colors for the ceremony and the flowers to be used:

Our reception will be held in a community club in a neighboring town. It's a huge room - with a full size basketball court and a seperate room for the buffet, with a full kitchen off that room. They also have 40 rectangular tables and 300 chairs, which will hopefully be enough. We have to get a chair for me and we need a few extra tables (gift, cake, etc.), but we should be ok because Tim's family has some. Our reception colors are bright - pink, orange and yellow. On our cake table, we will have wooden letters that spell LOVE lying down. They will be painted orange with yellow and pink flowers (I think that's what we decided on, isn't it, Mom?) We're also considering having these for centerpieces:

http://static.flickr.com/95/248236267_0c483742c8_m.jpg

We're going for a film noir/rat pack theme with the martini glasses. During the dinner, we're going to play music from the Rat Pack. The dinner will be a taco bar and a deli sandwich buffet. Beer will be served, champagne for parents and head table. This is what I have so far for our reception plans.

Only 2 more weeks until my dress is in! I can't hardly wait!

Last night I worked on my bridal shower guest list - I think I need to narrow it down so that we can reserve the same B&B where I'm getting ready before the wedding. If we did a morning shower, breakfasts are only $5 a person. But dinners aren't too bad either, they're $8-$11 and come with full serice. Mom wants to have the shower in a private, cozy area, but there are so many people to invite - I have a ton of family and a few friends on the list.

I'm working on eating healthier and exercising more in the hopes of losing a few pounds and toning up before the wedding. It didn't go so well this week, though - I overexerted myself on Tuesday and really felt the burn in my quardraceps, so much so that it hurt to walk for a couple of days. Between that and still getting over a cold, I've been having a heck of a time keeping on schedule. Next week will be better, though!

We're officially under the seven month mark until the wedding! Looking over the things we have accomplished and those we still have yet to do, it seems daunting how much is left! Or, rather, it seems worse because of the amount of money that needs to go into it. I've been applying for part time jobs, but haven't taken a weekend to go around and apply to restaurants, bars, stores or coffee shops in my area. Tim has to work this Saturday, so I will probably take my opportunity to do so then. I already have one application that I need to fill out and return, so hopefully something good will happen this weekend.

We haven't scheduled our Love Story photo session yet, we're waiting to figure out what day would work best for us. Currently we're looking at Sundays so we don't run into the same problem we had last weekend of weddings happening in the park at the time we wanted to take pictures.

We need the usual - a caketopper, ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket, pens for signing the guest book, attendants recruited for watching the guest book, handing out bells and watching the gifts, and other small items. I also need to figure out who will be doing my hair and makeup. I was looking into Arbonne, there is a lady in my town who is a retailer, so I might call her up and see what she could do.

Today I'm going to go and get new, upgraded cell phones for myself and my mother. As a result, I won't have time to get lunch, but my stepdad packed me a lunch this morning :) Too bad I've been eating it all day! hehe I also made it to the gym this morning, although I only did the elliptical for 20 minutes. I wanted to have time to get to my mom's house, shower and get ready for work before they all had to wake up. It's so nice to shower in a full size bath! Ours is soooo small.

And finally, my dress is due in 1.5 weeks!

mrsliberty

Newest news on the wedding planning front - I applied for a few part time jobs in order to supplement my income to defer some of the costs of the wedding. I might have a serving job at Cracker Barrell, the manager I talked to said that my application was good and the times I am available were good and that they could find a place for me. I'll know sometime next week if they can or not. YAY!

mrsliberty
09-25-2006, 12:39 PM
Is it normal for the bridal shop to not tell you when your dress is supposed to come in? Whenever I call, they just say oh, the first week of October. But I'd like to know a lot closer than that estimation of when it will come in. It's a bit of money that has to be put down to finish paying for it, and it would be super nice to know when that money is due. They said they'll call me as soon as it comes in, but I don't want to be kept in suspense! What if it doesn't come in until November? Then I'll be mad. Can't they just call the company and ask when the order number will be delivered? I would do that if I owned a bridal shop, that's for sure!

I have a late lunch today because I come in to work late. My schedule gets me all off-balance and I hate that part of it. It's nice to come in late, though, even though it means staying late. Because then I feel like I have more time to accomplish things in the morning, even though I don't seem to accomplish anything in the mornings. But at least it wasn't foggy outside by the time I drove to work this morning!

Mostly, this is just me babbling because I had a question about my wedding dress. I can't wait to try it on, even though I know it might not fit because I'm working on losing weight and inches and I started the work later than I should have. But I still have several months to go before fittings should start. Six months left!!!

YAY!

My favorites are the Starlet and the Leora. I think the other 2 are a bit too flashy. All pictures from Zappos.com, which is probably where I'll buy my shoes. Hehe, I almost didn't include them in the list! I like the style of shoe, but they just don't seem to be the right color I'm wanting. I'm looking more for a platinum than a bright silver, but that could be from the flash with all the sparklies on the shoes. :)

Nope, I'm from Fort Wayne so I went to Touma's in Fort Wayne. It's a GREAT shop, all except for one person who works there... so I avoid her like the plague whenever I go in there. The other salesladies are SO nice and treat the brides, moms and everyone else who walks in like queens. I HIGHLY recommend this shop!

I'm so excited, there are finally 2 bridal shows in my area! It's been since April, and there haven't really been any bridal shows. At least none that I've heard about. But now there's one Friday (Sept 29) and one on Oct 22. I really want to go to them! Hopefully my mom will be able to go with me.

Ok, well, Flickr won't upload my image. It's David's Bridal V-Neck sleeveless with a slim skirt in victorian lilac.

I'm thinking of this dress for my bridesmaids. Originally we were going to go with Alfred Angelo seperates with my MoH in purple and the bridesmaids in blue. But it seems (since there are only 3) that those differences will be too distracting. Especially since one of the bridesmaids is a junior who might have to wear a different dress anyway. I thought this dress might look good as a junior bridesmaid dress, accentuates the slimmest part of my larger bridesmaid and compliments my dress. However, my larger bridesmaid didn't like this dress because it has a slim skirt. I might try to get her back there to try it on again, though. I didn't like it at first either.

NicksBride
09-27-2006, 10:42 AM
I see how your larger bridesmaid may be uncomfortable in that. being a large girl myself I wouldn't feel very good in that slimming dress. GORGEOUS dress though I really like it. My bridesmaid is my brothers soon to be FIance and I took her dress shopping with me to try on dresses. Not to be rude, but she is the biggest one to be in the wedding and I wanted her to be comfortable. The others are like size 2 so I didn't worry.

mrsliberty
09-27-2006, 10:54 AM
I'd rather have my sister-in-law comfortable than the rest, because she is larger. When she tried the dress on, she looked really a lot slimmer than in the other dresses she tried. She just wasn't sure about how she'd be able to walk in high heels. So I was thinking we'd take a pair of heels with us and try it on again to see if she can walk in it.

I'm so antsy waiting for my dress to arrive. I called today to see if I could talk to someone else other than the unhelpful saleslady, and the person I talked to said that they couldn't give me a more specific date than "the second week of October". Which is weird, because before they said the first week of October. But this lady said the shipping date is the first week and it should be in either at the end of the first week or the beginning of the second week of October.

I'm so anxious! I need to calm down! Seriously!

The bridal show we went to was great! It was held at a local caterer's venue, which is beautiful (but too small for our reception) and they had great food and drinks! Upon entering, they registered you for door prizes, then gave information on some of the vendors who were putting it on. Next, you can go through the line for the appetizers or go into a room to view the table setups that the caterer can do. They were so pretty! They even had ideas like mine :)

We went from there into the main event... boy was it ever packed! It was so hot in there, we didn't stay long, but we did go all the way through all the vendors. We registered for a free hummer limo for the wedding party, a free honeymoon to Jamaica, a free bridal shower from Pampered Chef and many other things. We found a couple of DJs who gave us their CDs and cards, and many other vendors. We found people who do engravable gifts that are different and unique from Things Remembered. Oh, and we registered for a free tooth whitening from a local dentist! It was great! I can't wait until the larger one on Oct 22!

Once again, we had a great weekend. Those really are the best days. This weekend Tim works on Saturday, though, so we won't be able to have as much fun. We're thinking about doing our engagement session on Oct 15th, which happens to be my dad and stepmom's anniversary! This weekend was the county fair, so we went to that with Tim's sister, and we had a blast riding rides together. We also had dinner with his parents and they're so excited because they're going to Vegas on the weekend of the 13th. We may be going to a Motley Crew and Aerosmith concert on the 13th, as Tim and Teata's birthday presents to each other. Tim's birthday is coming up (25th) and I have to think of what to do for him... I don't really have any ideas. ACK! It's coming so close... I need to think of something. He likes tools, but has a billion, movies, also has a bunch, and sports books. I'm thinking maybe take him out to a nice dinner and a club with his friends. He would love that. But his birthday is on a Wednesday, so that could be on the weekend... just have to think of a gift or something to give him on the day of his birthday.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I think I'm all caught up on all your journals now... hehe

The full week off is for the honeymoon! We're going to either Minnesota or Vegas, probably Vegas. Then I'm taking three days off the week prior to the wedding to finish getting everything and everyone together. A few of our family members who are flying in are coming for the extra days, so I'm going to be a good hostess :) I'll also have to pick up my dress and make sure everyone has everything they need. Our love story session was Sunday, and it was so much fun! We had some really great shots taken, as long as they turned out well. I'm even more impressed with our photographer after that session, she's going to turn out wonderfully for the wedding! She said that she's super swamped right now with other weddings and photography sessions, so it may take 2 weeks to get the photos back. She's going to give them all to us on CD so that we can print them off ourselves. YAY! She gives the full copyright to the image and includes them in color, black and white and sepia tones on the CD.

No word yet on the dress. :(

My dress was shipped today - we finally have a date of when it will arrive. It will be here Friday or Monday. My veil is already in. I don't know about anything else that I ordered, that's all they told my mom when she called. I had her call since I had been harassing them so much. Now just to figure out how to pay for it :)

I have an interview tomorrow morning for a very good position in a good company. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, I'm going to print out my interview questions again and try to get back in the practice of good interviewing skills. Hopefully this will win me a good job and a place to work where I feel comfortable.

Tim and I are going to our pre-marital counselling tonight. We haven't been in a while because I was sick and then I worked until 6pm for two weeks. I'm not feeling too hot today, so hopefully I don't have to reschedule my interview for tomorrow. :(

Hope you all are doing well with your planning!

My dress is supposed to be in today or Monday, and we have everything ready for it financially, which is good. I was concerned because my mom had said she would take care of it, but forgot about it so we had to scramble a bit. Not a problem, though! Now I just have to purchase my undergarments and shoes so I can try on the dress and have it altered!

I also went to a job interview yesterday that was very promising. I'm supposed to have a second interview sometime next week and they seem very interested in having me work there. So yay!

Also good news - my photographer has posted several more galleries of photos this week, so probably mine will be done by the end of next week! Very exciting. We're going to take some of the photos and decorate our house with them, as well as photos of our families. Our apartment is looking quite sparse and undecorated at the moment.

Hope you all are having a great day :)

Our next bridal show to attend is coming up this Sunday. Originally, my maid of honor was going to go with us, but it's her birthday and her boyfriend has a surprise for her so she isn't going to go. One of my bridesmaids, Tim's sister, is going to go with us though. She's excited about it.

My dress has finally arrived, but with everything happening with Tim and my new job I haven't had a chance to go try it on yet. Perhaps this weekend... Our engagement pictures also arrived, but they are on a CD that I can't retrieve them from so I have to wait and call the photographer to get a different CD or at least find out if we're supposed to hold the copyright for them like she said when I asked.... I need to get out the contract and go over it again to make sure.

Lots of great things are going on!

I tried on my dress, and it fits beautifully! I didn't have anyone with me at the time, though, so I don't have pictures of me in it. :( I will get them soon, I promise!

I had an interview at a party planning business this weekend for a part time job. I'm hoping to get a second interview with them sometime this week.

I'm planning on bringing in a few things for our carry-in at work for Halloween. So far I'm thinking of Jack O'Lantern Stew that I saw on Emeril last night, cranberry salad and some kind of dessert.

Since my mom is out of town in California doing training for her job, I haven't done much wedding planning or talking lately. :( Plus with everything going on with Tim we haven't had much time, although we did go to a bridal show on Sunday. It was fun and we may have found our DJ! There were several good ones there and one with a price we really liked.

We took my sister-in-law (to be) to the bridal show and you wouldn't believe how many people thought she was the bride! She's only 17 and Tim is 23! I suppose that's a compliment on the fact that I look young? It was funny :)

I haven't logged in here for a while! I haven't made posts when I did log in to check everyone else's journals, either! Here's an update on us:

My dress came in, and it fits.

We're moving to a house! We're renting still, but it's a whole house and it's out in the country. It's even got a large backyard for the pup!

Tim is doing well, his next doctor's appointment is Nov. 21. We'll know more then.

My new job is fabulous. I can't complain, not even when I'm not a morning person and I have to be at work by 6am! That's how great it is :)

We're planning a Christmas party at our new house for our families to meet (some of them, we both have huge families) and for them to meet our pastor.

We're thinking of joining the church we'll be married in, and so far it sounds really great. There are a few things we need to find out about their stance on, but I think it will be fine.

We're really happy! We're still planning wedding things, just taking it easy. We finished our pre-marital counseling this week, and we meet after the first of the year to plan the ceremony! So now we have time to relax and celebrate the holidays before everything gets crazy :)

That's what's going on with us! I hope to catch up with everyone soon!

Today I called one of my very best friends and asked her if she would step in as maid of honor. My MOH has been MIA recently. She said she was going to move at the beginning of November, but when I called her in September, she didn't have her address. Her phone is disconnected, she hasn't called to give me a new phone number, address, anything. I feel really bad doing this, but it's getting to be crunch time. We need to pick out the dresses. She'll still have a spot if she contacts me, but I need to know that there will be someone there. I didn't ask this friend before because she lives in Rhode Island, while I'm getting married in Indiana. But she said she would do it, and she's thrilled to be asked. I apologized for not asking sooner, and she said that was fine. She's already looking at dresses! I love her so much, she's such a great friend.

This week is going to be a big week for us - I'm picking up my dress (I'm not having it altered there, but finding someplace closer to where I live), we're buying a few things for our new house, paying off some bills and generally getting everything packed up and cleaned for the big move. I'm really excited, next week we're going to pick out invitations and order them so we can get ready to send them out. I'm working on planning a Christmas party for our families to meet one another and our pastor. I'm having a great time at work and may be training in another aspect of the company so I can help do another part of work.

mrsliberty
11-13-2006, 12:28 PM
I realized over the weekend, that after Christmas we'll have 3.5 months until the wedding. And then I started freaking out. Not because I don't want to be married to Tim, because I do, but because there is so much to do that I haven't been able to do yet! I've always been one of those throw-it-together-at-the-last-minute people, but I was hoping for this occasion I would step up more! Most of the delay has been the job change and housing change. But I have way too much to do over the holidays to fret about the wedding! So I need to get on the ball and get stuff done this week. I've sent out an email to my new MoH to see if she will help my mom with the bridal shower. I've even sent them both out my prelim guest list with addresses (some of them) and phone numbers so they can get in touch with these ladies.

I just hope I can get everything done in time! I know 5 months seems like a long time, but not when there is moving and holidays between there!

Jacklynn
11-13-2006, 03:14 PM
Yeah I know the feeling! I have just under 6 months now and I feel like I have a TON yet to do! I am planning my wedding 2 hours north of where I am getting married so I feel soooo behind. I'm sure everything will work out though. We are getting married to so close in time and in the same state, where is Spencerville? speaking of which that is my last name ;)

NicksBride
11-13-2006, 03:27 PM

mrsliberty
11-14-2006, 06:22 AM
Spencerville is north of Fort Wayne... if you know where that is? Northeastern Indiana, not too far from the state line.

Yes, I did get my engagement pictures back, but they're on a copyright protected CD. Which isn't what we had agreed upon, so now I need to pick the photos I want printed, call the photographer and let her know which ones to put in the album we bought and ask her about having the rest of the pictures. I'm really not sure why she told us at our interview that we'd get all the photos plus copyright on a CD and then gave us a protected one, but maybe she just forgot. I haven't called her yet, we don't know which ones we want to put in the album. They look great, though!

Jacklynn
11-14-2006, 12:06 PM

This is a dress I'm thinking of for my flower girl! It comes in ivory/platinum, which is the same color scheme as my dress. So, her dress:

And for reference, my dress:

I ordered Tim's ring last night!

I finally decided on a phrase to engrave inside the band... which was what was keeping me from ordering it before. We already had him sized, so I was able to order online from http://titaniumera.com (http://titaniumera.com/) - they have great sales and I've heard many good things about them.

I ordered him a Semi-Dome band with all satin finish. It's going to look like this:

http://titaniumera.com/images/products/200/136.jpg

And on the inside, it's going to be engraved with "Equal Love" in printed letters. We always joke around with each other that one loves the other more... but we always know that we love each other equally, with all of our hearts. So that's how I came up with that phrase. And, I wasn't sure about it, so I did tell Tim and didn't keep it a secret from him until the wedding day. (I can't keep secrets from my loved ones!) He loves it! It should be here by Saturday. :)

Oh my goodness!

I almost forgot!

In my haste to tell you about Tim's ring, I forgot to tell you that I also picked up my dress last night. I'm going to have it altered at a different shop because I absolutely HATE the one I purchased my dress from. I love the dress, but hate the owner of the shop. She's horrible. I called her yesterday to ask if my slip was in. She said they were all in. So I went and picked up my dress and accessories yesterday. She said the slip wasn't it, that it was back-ordered because it was such a big size!!!! I know I'm a plus-sized bride, but GEEZ! So she said it will be in by the weekend after Thanksgiving. If it's not in by then, I'm going in and demanding a refund so I can go and buy one from David's or another bridal shop in the area. GRRRRRRR.

Here's an idea for our wedding bulletin - it's 6.99 for 100 at ChristianBook.com. It's published by Warner Press. On the back, it has a quote - "If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." 1 John 4:12

This is the cake top that we've chosen:

http://www.bridalpeople.com/wedding-cake-toppers/images/4012.jpg

It goes on a lighted base, which I also purchased. I'm now suddenly worried that it's going to be too heavy to sit on the cake! I'll have to ask the baker if it is or not :( If it is, I'll request that they put on something to help hold it up, whether it's a pillar in the top tier or what. But my cake is going to be each separate tier on a different plate, so hopefully there will be something she can do!

Just like me to worry after buying something :)

My absolute favorite is the first one too :)

Tim's ring arrived Saturday, but it is about half a size to a size too small. :( So I have to send it back to the company and they will remake it for $11 + shipping. So I'll pay $21 to get it completely remade and re-engraved. It looks great, though, we're so happy with what we received. It was just our fault for ordering the wrong size.

We've also gotten things set up to move - I set up the power yesterday and the sewer, gas and trash today. We also bought a new vacuum cleaner and a few other things that are going to go in our house - like plungers for the 2 bathrooms! I can't wait to live there, I'm so excited about it even though it is 15-20 minutes more drive time for me to work. Today after work I'm going to stop at the thrift store in town to purchase the wet bar I found there for such a great price.

Our love story album has been ordered and is in, so we just need to pick photos to put in it and our photographer will assemble it for us. I think we have the pictures picked that we want in it, but I have to double check with Tim.

We ordered our invitations this weekend!

http://www.paperelegance.com/images/blue/wj189sf-57.jpg

This is like what we ordered. We also ordered gold ink, as pictured. The sample in the store had a different verse, but this is the verse we picked. It will have our names displayed on front as well, like this one.

http://www.paperelegance.com/images/blue/wj189sfi-57.jpg

This is similar to what we had on the inside as well - but we don't have the top verse and our wedding time and place is different (of course). We also have left hand corner copy that says Reception to follow and the name of our reception hall. We ordered 225 invitations and they should be here in 2 weeks. Very exciting!

This is the verse that we have on the front of the invitation:

For hearing my thoughts,
understanding my dreams,
and being my best friend…
for filling my life with music
and loving me without end…
I do

And this is the verse on the inside of the invitation:

Together with our parents, we
___________ (Bride)
and
__________ (Groom)
invite you to share with us
this joyous celebration of love
at our marriage
on ___________ (Date)
_____________ (Year)
at _____________ (Time)
______________ (Location)
____________ (Address)
______, _______ (City, State)

So excited!

Thank you so much for your compliments on our engagement photos! We had such a great time having them taken and are very happy with the results. The same photographer is our wedding photographer, and while I didn't like every photo she took (I'm very picky), I'm confident that there will be plenty for me to be happy in the 8 hours she will be photographing us on our wedding day.

Speaking of our wedding day, it's now officially under 5 months until the big day!!!! I'm so excited! It's getting to be that time when we need to get the groomsmen and ushers fitted for their tuxes, the bridesmaid dresses ordered and my fittings to start. It's very exciting!

I've also put some thought into what song I want to be played as my father/daughter dance song, and I think I've figured it out! This is a song I have loved my whole life, and I even learned how to play it (sort of) on the piano at my grandmother's house! My middle name is Rose, so I started loving it based on that, but I think it's perfect as a father/daughter dance song! So, without further ado, here it is:

The Rose
Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower, and you it's only seed.

It's the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance.
It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes a chance.
It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give.
And the soul, afraid of dyin', that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

These are other songs I think would be good for our reception -

Cake Cutting:
Love You Madly
Cake
(excerpt)
I don't want to jump in
Unless this music's thumping
All the dishes rattle in the cupboards
When the elephants arrive

I want to love you madly
I want to love you now
I want to love you madly, way
I want to love you, love you
Love you madly

Bouquet Toss/Garter Toss -
White Wedding
Billy Idol
(excerpt)
It's a nice day for a white wedding
Wow, it's a nice day to start again
It's a nice day to start again

Last Dance -
You Spin Me 'Round (Like A Record)
Dead or Alive
(excerpt)
Well I...I set my sights on you
(and no one else will do)
And I, I've got to have my way now, baby
(and no one else will do)
And I, I've got to have my way now, baby
All I know is that to me
You look like you're havin' fun
Open up your lovin' arms
Watch out, here I come

CHORUS:
You spin me right round, baby
right round like a record, baby
Right round round round

I'm fairly sure they're the ones I want to get, but now that I'm at the ordering page, I'm a little leery. They are only 7.99, and I'm afraid they'll come and look horrible. Oh well, I'll keep them in the running in case I don't find something else I like.

We finally got our cake topper! I'm afraid it's too heavy, so I'm going to ask our baker (when we finally pick one) and possibly have a fake cake for the top cake so it can hold the topper. The cakes will be on separate pedestals, because I love that look, so it won't interfere with the rest of the cakes.

NicksBride - you're right, they're getting closer by the minute! I am so excited, but also so nervous - my girls haven't even gotten their dresses yet! Eep!

BriansBride07

I really wish I wasn't at work today. Last night was so hard. One of Tim's best friends from high school killed himself and last night was the viewing. They had an open casket. They didn't do a very good job on his body, I used to work in the morgue and I know they could've done better. It was so hard to see Tim so torn up inside. I cried because he was crying. Today is the funeral. I'm leaving work early to go to it. Tim's cousin Jenny is also going to be there. It's so sad. We found out over the weekend while we were moving into our new house. Everything has been very quiet since then. The pall of death is hanging over my house, and I wish it could be happy times because we just moved, but it will take some time. We just saw his friend the week before it happened. We went out with him, even though it was supposed to be our date night, and I'm so glad we did. He was so positive then, talking about how he was going to be looking for a job and raising his daughter when he finished his term in the service. I knew something was wrong, but everyone assured me it was just shell shock. I wish I had talked to him more in depth. I wish I knew what I could have said or done to keep him from doing this.

I am really sorry to hear this! I lost a friend in High School and I know its hard. Do not feel like you could have done something, that will tear you up inside! It's almost time for our Christmas party, and we're thinking we won't have enough room for everyone we wanted to invite. Especially not if we get the guest bedroom set up. So we're trying to decide what to do, which will basically be cut the guest list so it is just our parents and grandparents.

We're fairly moved in to our new house, but an extra $1000 on appliances that we hadn't planned on needing to spend has been spent and is straining our budget. But we're treading the water and everything will be fine soon.

His company Christmas party is Friday, we're looking forward to attending that. We've both had a virus this past week, given to us by a member of his family and passed through the family. I seem to be doing better, but I'm still worn out. Tim's doing much better.

We're considering going out to a concert tonight - big metal show that the radio station is putting on at the local hotspot. The added bonus is that there's a ladies only show at the club next door for 'relationship enhancement products'. I am looking forward to it, and Tim's best friend's fiancee might go with me. That'll be a fun time, and I might even be able to buy a few Christmas presents.

Our invitations came in on the day of Ben's funeral. I answered the phone as we were sitting in the car after we had interred him. I explained the situation to them and told them we'd be there sometime. I also need to go and pick up my slip for my dress, hopefully we can do all of those things tonight before the concert.

I also need to call the bridal shop that I'm getting my fittings done at to schedule my first fitting. EEP! I need to go to the gym like mad. I'm afraid it won't fit :( I really have gained a lot of weight lately. It's VERY depressing. When I went to the doctor this week about my virus they weighed me and I almost cried. Good thing I was so out of it that I didn't notice too much.

I had taken all of our guest list information and organized it with a program on my computer. Now I can't access it. It's so frustrating! But at least I didn't have addresses in there, or not many. I need to get back on that so I can start printing out lists of names and addresses so we can start addressing envelopes.

It's getting a lot more real every day.

It is coming fast for us isn't it? I am still very sorry to hear about your friend and I am sorry to hear you both were sick, but I am glad that you are both feeling better and your invitations came in, that is very exciting. When are you sending out your invites? I am having a hard time deciding that and then having to worry about head counts and such!!! Seems like it is coming really fast now isn't??

mrsliberty
12-11-2006, 07:11 AM
It really is coming fast. We set up our RSVP cards to bear the date March 28, 2007 as the due date. We will be sending them out in mid-February. We're also sending them to Romance, AR where they will be hand cancelled by the post office with a special stamp. We picked up our invitations on Saturday - we have to fold them all. This isn't too bad, but it's a lot of them. We also saved time by having our address pre-printed on the RSVP envelopes and the invitation outer envelopes. Oh and we purchased the additional stickers so we don't have to lick each envelope. Now I just need to get my map cards done and the invitations will be ready to move on to the next step.

We also decided on a bridesmaid dress this weekend!

http://static.flickr.com/136/319491620_4390e9c9ef_m.jpg

We're going with this one from David's Bridal in Victorian Lilac.

I also purchased my wedding shoes, picked up my slip and bought my garters. I bought a lilac garter to keep (Tim wants to hang it from his rearview mirror in his truck) and a blue sequin garter for him to toss. I love the sequined garter! Actually, I love both. The hose I bought have the seam in the back, very cute. I might try to find some in tan, the only ones the store carried were black with the seam. My shoes are very tall and have an ankle strap. Because of my problems with my ankles (soccer player and constant ankle sprainer), the ankle strap will not close. It's about an inch too small. So we're going to add a strap to the shoe. The platform of the ball of the foot and the wide heel are clear plastic and the ankle and toe straps are metallic silver. They are so cute. With those shoes on, I don't need the dress hemmed AT ALL.

I do have pictures of me in my dress with all my extras, but they're at my in-laws house, so I don't have them to post. :( I still don't have earrings picked yet, but I'm working on it. I also plan to dye my crinoline purple and I haven't done that yet.

Regarding our friend, the military got back with the family and reportedly told them it was not a suicide, but that they could not tell them anything else. It doesn't really help, it just keeps us wondering. I just hope he's ok wherever he is now and I wish it hadn't been his time to leave.

BriansBride07

I hear ya about saving time with the invites. We are having our RSVP printed also but I have a program on my PC that will do the rest for me. I love your BM's dresses. Sorry to hear that the milatary won't tell the family any more. best of luck to you

My maid of honor that I thought I had lost has re-appeared! I'm so excited that she's back in contact with me! I also now have her new phone number and an idea of where she is living... hopefully I'll be able to catch her on the phone tonight. I'm so excited because she is my best friend and I would do anything for her. I'm glad to hear that she is doing well and that everything is ok with her. I'll know more after I actually get to talk with her.

We purchased our vase for our unity candle this week... It's a large brandy snifter or whatever you call them. And I mean humongous. Our unity candle is going to be a collaboration of our mothers bringing candle wax beads to each of us (2 to me, which will be combined into 1 and 1 to Tim, in one color for each of us) and we'll have a wick that goes into the vase. We'll pour our respective colors into the candle and they will combine (we may even layer them a bit) and the wick will come through them all. The wick will be lit at the end of the candle ceremony. So we have 2 medium sized vases, 2 large vases and the giant vase.

I also purchased some decorating materials for the tables - I have a foam heart and then a cutout of the word love that is really cute. I bought paper and paint to paint them on. I'm going to trace the heart onto the paper then paint it. Then I'm going to paint on the cutout over the four corners of the paper. I think it'll look good... but I'll post it when I get a mockup done to see how it really looks.

I also bought the dye for my crinoline! :P That's very exciting... I decided to go with purple. Things are moving along... slowly, but they're moving along :)

I always read my last post to see what I was working on and remember so many things I'm supposed to be doing!

Today my goal is to get my Christmas cards written and sealed to be put in the mail tomorrow morning. I finished ordering Tim's Christmas presents, although I have a bit left over from my allowance for him so I might be able to sneak in a movie night too. :)

We decided not to have our Christmas party because things are so hectic. We never even had a chance to send out invitations! I do need to do some baking this weekend, but I should have some time. Tim and his father are going to go get fitted for their tuxes after Christmas, they both have the 26th off work. I get 1/2 day off on Friday (leave at 10a!) and Monday off. Not quite the week off I'm used to from my old job! But that's ok... I love it!

I did get my year-end bonus this year... even though I've only been here for 2 months... I can't wait until next year when I'll have been here a full year! My health insurance paperwork also needs to be turned in - it starts on January 12.

I have called around to and visited several websites of DJs in my area. I'm about to pick one, but I'm sure there are more questions that I forgot to ask him. I called him last night and I was completely knocked off kilter because he told me that he was in the hospital with his wife who JUST had a baby! I asked him if he'd like me to call back some other time and he said no, it was fine. I just can't imagine that!

After the Christmas cards, next up on the list is folding invitations! Yay!

LMAO that is just to funny I can't believe he said NO that's ok. Must be everything was going well and that is one of his stress relievers. Glad you are narrowing down to your DJ.

I have cute news! I called my dad today and he said that he had gotten fitted for his tux today - the first guy out of the WHOLE party!

I also asked him about whether or not he had picked a song for us to dance to - I had emailed him a suggestion (The Rose by Bette Midler) and he never responded. When I asked him, he said that HE had picked out that song first and wanted it to be HIS suggestion before I even had emailed him! That makes me so happy that we both picked out such a lovely song and that it was the very same one!

I love my dad :)

Awww, the coincidence about the song is really touching.

That's cool about you and your dad picking the same some! Good luck with the DJ. I booked mine in May and had trouble finding one. I love my DJ though!

Let's see... what's happened? I last posted on 12-20.

I am currently taking a break - I've been working on our map cards for the past TWO DAYS! It's exhausting. And it would've been fine, but I'm a perfectionist and have to have everything just right... Oh and the online map programs (GoogleMaps and MapQuest) don't know where my church is! So I've almost finished them, they're looking great. I did have quite a bit of extra whitespace on the back of the card so I wanted to make a monogram - talk about a trouble! I can't find any fonts that look even remotely okay in the size I'd like the monogram to be! It's tres frustrating ;)

One of my bridesmaids and the flower girl have purchased their dresses. I emailed my maid of honor and need to talk to my parents about what we want to do for my sister (she's a junior bridesmaid). Hopefully they will also get their dresses soon. And I've got to keep trying to get in touch with my original maid of honor because I really would like it if she would be in my wedding! I do understand, though, that sometimes life takes you on other trips and it may be difficult for her to be able to be in it. That's ok :)

My maid of honor has emailed back and she will be getting her dress soon! YAY! I did dye my crinoline purple, it's a very light purple. I need to get on the phone and make an appointment for a fitting for my gown soon. I'm afraid it won't fit though! :(

Umm... I was distracted while making this entry. I'm back to working on my monogram now. I'll update later!

I love the dyed crinolines, I didn't have the guts to do it though. I can't wait to see the pics! I hope your dress works out.

Good luck on the monogram.

It's so close!

We've booked our last vendor (the DJ) and they are confirmed to be the entertainment for our rehearsal. We've officially selected bridal party dresses, one of the girls and the flower girl have theirs purchased. The map cards were a success, and I did finally find a font for the monogram. I'm behind on sending out invitations :( I still need to fold them all. Hopefully by the end of this week that will be finished. Then I need to address them. I am still missing several addresses! We haven't started meeting with the pastor again yet, and I haven't made an appointment for my first fitting (I'm nervous...) so I need to get on the ball with both of those items. My original MoH - not sure if she is going to be there or if she wants to be in the party or not. The other I believe should have purchased her dress by now? I don't know if she did or not but I will know soon.

I'm trying not to be stressed about the upcoming wedding.

Congrats on the DJ.

Invites don't need to be sent out until 8 weeks before, so that is okay.

Your dress fittings are okay, that typically occures about 8 weeks before.

The only thing you should be worried about is your BM dresses. We ordered ours 3 months before and had to pay for a rush order so they would have them with about a month left for alterations.

Melissa as always is correct. :) We sent our invites out ONLY because our hotel needed a head count early for some reason.
As for fittings, our two month mark is approaching and I do not even KNOW where to take it. Also our BM just came in, I would be a bit worried as Melissa said, but you can find them in catalogues from stores that can send them sooner, so don't panic yet, but I would be focusing on that right now... :) Just breathe, you will be just fine.

Everything seems to be right on track for you except the BM dresses. YOu seem to be handling this all very well! This is the first time I got a chance to read your entire journal and everything sounds so wonderful...Congrats and best wishes to you!

Two months and one day... the past year has just flown by! :D

Some of my planning was put on hold, since I have moved to a new job and new home and have had to focus on those. It's suddenly become very close to the day! I'm so excited and looking forward to it, but I'm a little be nervous that I won't be able to finish all my plans in time.

I have an ever-growing to-do list that is being a pain! I think I spend more time writing things on it than I do finishing anything. But soon enough, it will be done! The next two months are going to be very busy, both with wedding planning and other activities. My friend from high school is putting on her senior fashion show in Bloomington, and I will be there! She has 2 musical guests and I have a feeling it's going to be a great show.

The good news is that all (I think) of Tim's family will be back for the wedding. His dad's brothers and sisters have not been gathered for a long time, and they will all be here for the wedding.

Better get back to my list!

Tim continues to get RSVPs back from members of his family that live far away and we didn't think would come back. I, on the other hand, receive RSVPs from people in the area that they can't come. :( I'm a little disappointed that most of my RSVPs are either not being sent back or are being sent back with zeros. But I am really happy that all his family is really excited about our wedding.

After I dyed my crinoline and I went to the seamstress to get my dress fitted, we decided the dress looks better without the crinline. So I have a purple crinoline for no reason now. But it's ok.

Things are coming together for our wedding, we just have a ton of meetings now to make sure all the vendors have all the information they need and to go over all the last minute details with everyone. It's fun, but I can't wait until May. :)

I've had one bridal shower and I'll be having a second at the end of March. One for my dad's family and one for my mom's family. Unfortunately, none of my friends were invited to either, so that's a bummer. I'm also not having a bachelorette party, but since Tim's friends' wives aren't too thrilled with the going to his bachelor party, we've worked it out so that the wives (and me) will be invited to meet up with them at 11:30 after they've done their thing. So I thought this would be time when I could plan on doing a few things with some of the girls, but Tim has gone around and invited all of them to come out at 11:30. Which yeah, it's nice that I get something, but it would also be nice if I was able to meet up with them before so I could at least pretend to have a bachelorette party. :)

Things have been going well, and I'm happy for that. I was able to take time off at work since we agreed on it when I was hired in. We're going on our honeymoon to Chicago, which looks like it will be a fun time. My brother finally told me when he is going to be in town, so I was able to get him plane tickets that weren't too expensive.

Sounds like everything is coming together nicely! Won't be to long now. Sorry to hear about some of your family not being able to come, but it is nice to hear that at least the family is excited about it. :)

I am not really having a bachelorette party either, a bunch of friends and I are going out to a bar to hang out. Nick and his friends and my friends. Not a huge to do, but still nice to head out. I am sure you will have a good time with everyone. EXCATLY ONE MONTH!!!!!!

Two months and two days now... It's getting really exciting!

My brother will be here in EXACTLY 2 weeks, and I haven't seen him in quite a while! My friends will be here in 2 weeks and one day... also exciting... and my wedding day is in 2 weeks and 2 days.

We've had a good turn out from RSVPs, a bit short from what we estimated, but still good. (It definitely helps on table arrangements!) Part of the problem we have so many unsure is that our RSVP did not say to return it if you were not coming, and not everyone got that idea, I don't think. But that's ok!

Everything is coming together very nicely and I'm very excited to see all that is happening. :D
