Group Memberships

I was just wondering what exactly the group memberships are. If I view people's profiles, there is a section that says "this person is not joined to any public groups" or something like that.

The forums have option to create groups or clubs that have access only to some forum groups. Like right now you are a Registered User, Mods are part of the Mod group, and vendors even have their own group called Vendors that allow them to chat in a privet forum that you can not see on the main board unless you are part of that group.
