My boyfriend and I just got engaged about a week ago. I was surprised that he asked because I did not think that he had the money to buy me an engagement ring. Now that I've been wearing the ring for a little while, I noticed that the "gold" is starting to peel off the sides a little bit, which obviously means its a cheap ring. It wouldnt bother me that he did not spend a lot of money, except for the fact that its only been a week and its falling apart! Should I bring this up to him and express that I would like a real ring and that we should start saving for it or should I just let it go?

don't worry about it. if it bothers you a lot mention it to your FH and let him know....he may appreciate it. but if it doesn't really matter to you, no worries. remember it's not the ring that counts, but the thought behind it. quite frankly had my FH stuck a twist tie on my hand i would've been proud to wear it because he loves me so much.

take care, all the best!!!! :D

It seems like you have posted the same topic in two differnt categories :?

I responded to the one in the "General Chat"

I like the twist tie reference "bride" I agree, it is not about the ring.

Honestly, I just got married in April and my husband and I don't even wear rings

"I like the twist tie reference "bride" I agree, it is not about the ring. "

Weblady, you should have seen my FH face when I told him that, he started to laugh and then tried to take the ring back (he was joking)!! I said no! once it's there it stays there!

but i truly don't believe it's about the ring, at first before I got my ring my FH said he couldn't really afford anything at that time (what i didn't know was that he already had my ring) i told him then if he got a ring out of a bubble gum machine that would be what i wore forever. he laughed and said at least he would be able to save some money

the ring is symbolic, it's something to show everyone else that you belong to someone else.....someone you love

Here is a neet little 'Fun Fact' about the wedding ring ...

* Do you know why we wear our wedding rings on the left hand? Did you know that the groom didn't always wear a ring? Some have said that the ring was worn on the left hand of the bride because it was the weakest finger on the weakest hand and thus the ring symbolizing a husbands control over his wife. And to tell other men that she was taken, which is one of the ways we use the ring today.

A more romantic tradition has both the bride and groom wearing wedding rings on the third finger of the left hand as there was an old Egyptian belief that there is a vein in this hand that runs directly to the heart. It was known as "the vein of love"

Most look at the ring now as an unending circle made of an unbreakable metal and therefore a symbol of unbreakable love and an unending commitment.

OMG do not feel bad 2 days after I got my ring I knocked a stone out and I was so angry and it was not a super cheap or a real exspensive ring but it was still the idea that my ring was falling apart. You should definatly meantion it to your fiance because I did and he was like WHAT?!? I guess men think when you pay $900 for a ring it should be indestructable lol we took it back to the place and they replaced the ring no questions asked!
