How old was your little one when you converted them to a toddler bed? Did it go well?

I know mine are still on the young side, but I think we will be converting them this weekend. Mackenzie likes to chew on her bed (well and everything else too) and it has gotten to the point that it isn't really safe because she has chewed one side so bad that it is splintering and I doubt it is safe to eat wood. I know they make covers but the plastic ones don't fit (we've tried). I would have to get fabric ones and I'd have to cover her entire crib because she chews everywhere!!!

Fortunately they have convertible cribs so Last night we bought toddler safety rails to keep them from falling out. I still need to find a gate and take the rocking chair out of their room since we don't really use it. So I think this weekend we will be trying it. Wish me luck !!

We tried switching Ryan at about 18 months and it didn't go well so we put it back to the crib after a few sleepless nights. He switched to the toddler bed a little after his second birthday then.
Carter I switched his bed to the toddler bed at the beginning of January and it has gone perfectly. Sleeps better now then when it was still in crib form.

Good luck! Averi is still in a crib, sometimes I worry if she could crawl out but so far she hasn't tried that I know of.

Jack was about 17 months..he was trying to climb out of his crib..we had a toddler bed which he didnt care for..so he sleeps in the full size bed which is low to the ground. I lay down with him till he falls aslwp...just to make sure hes sleeping. We have a baby gate in the doorway.

Lexi kept getting out of her crib so we converted it at 19 months and she does good with staying in it for her naps and not whinning or playing in the night except i think she falls out of it and just sleeps on the floor lol she is a flopper and likes to sleep all over the place

well it is going ok. Logan likes to get out over and over and over again. He was fine first couple of nights but now he has started getting out. I put him back in many many times. Finally I just get frustrated and put him in the pack n play in our room until he falls asleep then I move him. Mackenzie is doing good though, but I don't think she has figured out how to get out yet. The other morning I found Logan asleep on the floor.

I put up regular bed rails so they don't fall out but they scare me because they like to hold onto them and jump. Logan fell over it once, scraped up his nose, and landed on his butt some how. But I am determined to get through this without going back to the crib!!!

Oh gosh, we've been talking about this a lot lately. Paisley is 22 months and we're trying to figure out when to do this. She's not climbing out or having any problems, but it just feels like she's approaching getting too old for her crib. I'm actually getting really anxious about this! :bbeek: We'll probably use an extra full size bed that we have here when we decide to do it.

Keely, Paisley liked sleeping in your bed, right? We found Carter slept better at night when we switched his bed. Guess it felt more like a big bed to him. I know carter and Paisley had a lot of the same sleeping issues so I was thinking maybe she'd react the same way.

Oh gosh, I hope we don't have to talk about this for a long time. The girls are no where near ready for toddler beds. They chew on their cribs also. :( I bought protectors to put on the front but I never realized I would need to cover all 4 sides! That would be expensive AND by the time I figured it out, it was too late and they had already ruined the cribs. They haven't started climbing but it could happen at any time. We have talked about crib tents and DH has talked about adding on to their cribs so it makes them taller. I just know that if we put them in regular beds they would never go to sleep! Good luck!!!

Brant is 26 months and shows no interest in climbing out of his crib! He'll just lay there and kick the sides when he's ready to get up (or starts crying). But he has never swung a leg over and tried to crawl out. Plus he seems to also flop around while sleeping and I'm afraid he'll fall on the floor or something. My oldest DS stayed in his crib until he was 3.

I think we're planning on keeping him in there until June. I figure by then I can hit up the spring rummage sales to find a toddler bed for him! Not that they're that expensive at Wal-mart, but I just like finding a good bargain!

I had the same fear, my daughter actually goes to sleep!! She even naps in her bed just fine. My son on the other hand, nope, for the 4th night in a row Ive had to let him fall asleep in the pack n play then move him. My daughters crib looked awful, like I was finding chunks of wood on her and in her bed. Gross!!! The other big reason we did this is because we are going to florida in May and staying with DH's aunt and uncle. I can't really take two pack n plays on a plane. We also go camping alot in the summer and it would save sooo much space if I didn't have to cart along two pack n plays!
