Where do you think God ends and human ingenuity begins? I was thinking about this b/c of the "baby genes" thread, so many of us believe that would be messing with nature or God's creations. But on the other hand God gave us the intelligence to do amazing things. One could easily argue that if god wanted us to have light bulbs, he would have created them himself.

So where do you draw the line? Please be respectful of others.

This is a hard one to say exactly where a line could or should be drawn. The answer I would give to the light bulb argument would be that it is not nature. Manipulations with nature is where things start to get risky. There are some manipulations that don't bother me, but others that do. I don't really know where the line should be drawn.

Indeed this is a hard one to say as to where the line is.... and one that I honestly don't have an answer for because I do see both sides of the argument. I have accepted though that there are some things in life that I cannot answer and cannot explain and I just really feel that humans have no business messing with things such as cloning, messing with genes and the lot.

I think that anything is fair game, as long as you're not harming another creature. Like, picking out the male/female sperm and fertilizing that way is completely acceptable because the genetic factors other than sex aren't determined.. But I think that making a person too good looking/smart might inflict a horrible stigma on them.

I tend to think God gave us science and intelligence to do amazing things. However, as with most everything, there is a line and some people go over board.

I am all for things that will help make life better and healthier for us, but at what cost is a question I always ask.

So where I draw this line depends on the situation I guess.

If you follow the same belief system that I do, it is pretty easy. A diety created the earth, put species on it, and left with the following advice, "Don't mess it up too badly until I get back." Everything past that moment has happened due to the venutes that were undertaken by those species. We eveolved into humans and tragically cause more problems than we have solved to our "gift."

On that thought, we wouldn't be here without God (in some way) but nature and scince is the guiding force.

As far as cloning is concerned, I am 50/50. I don't think we should clone a human being, but an animal maybe. I do think that if we could clone organs and sciencetist could research it further we could save many lives.

I think that for the most part, anything humans can do to improve the quality of life, without harming nature, is open to all. However, having said that, I don't think that messing with genes is a good idea... because while we may solve one problem, or create "people" the way we want to, we might be causing a whole other set of problems. Also, I think that the way the genes come together is fated, people are genetically coded they way that they are supposed to be. Changing that, changes the soul that inhabits the body. And that should not be messed with- would I be who I am as a person, had my parents been able to get a smarter gene, or a prettier gene? I don't think so, and my kids should be who they're supposed to be without my playing around with it.

I am agnostic at best, an agnostic liberal at that so I was interested in what your thoughts were. I pretty much believe anything goes, I love that humanity is constantly striving for advancements. The only time limitations should be placed on science is when the ideas seriously hurt the planet or cause major socioeconomic problems.
