Just starting! Our first meeting is a pretty funny story. I had just come off a 2.5 year relationship a few months before and really wasn't dating or even in the mood to date. Bill was fairly recently divorced and not really dating either. At the time, I lived in Joplin, Missouri and he was from the Kansas City area, Blue Springs/Independence.
He coaches junior high football, basketball and track and happened to be at a coaching seminar at the local university. Bill was staying in town overnight and decided to head to the bookstore rather than hang around his hotel room. It just so happened that the bookstore he chose (Books-A-Million) was about 3 blocks from my house and that Thursday night I was on call and bored and went up there to pick up the newest James Patterson and grab a caramel latte. It was January, the thirteenth to be exact (that's our wedding date), and I was wearing a sweatshirt, scrub pants and my hair was in a knot on top of my head. Bill was sitting on one of the couches reading a magazine. I got my latte, grabbed my book and was making a beeline for the register when I tripped over his foot, fell face down in front of him and dumped my latte all over his lap!
Bill jumps up (undoubtedly in pain) and asks if I'm okay. I'm sure I gave him a funny look and I asked if he was okay since I had just dumped hot coffee in his lap. I was more embarrassed than anything. He asked if he could buy me another coffee and I just mumbled, "No thank you, so sorry...," asked if he needed help cleaning up, and moved on. I was in the coffee line when he came up behind me and paid for my refill. We talked a little bit, mostly about nothing important like the weather, where he was from, etc. and he asked if he could call me sometime. I thought that was a little odd, and said no, but that he could email if he wanted to and I gave him one of my spam email addresses.
He emailed me the next day and we started corresponding like that for 2-3 weeks before I actually gave him my phone number and we started talking about every day. He finally came down the last weekend of February and we went to brunch and drove around that afternoon before he headed back to the city. We have a lot of differences, but a lot in common too. I have 2 teenagers, he has 3. We were raised very differently, but seem to have similar goals and values. Over that next summer, I had become very disenfranchised with my job (50-60 hour weeks and 20-24 days on call every month) and Bill suggested that I look for something in the KC area. I ended up working for a small, doctor-owned hospital for a lot more money and no call time. He helped my daughter and I find a fantastic townhouse and to move up to Overland Park in July. We just seemed to spend more and more time together and not wanting to be apart.
One Sunday, in April of this year, Bill suggested that we go look at some open houses in the area, just for fun. After that, we kind of got a bug about looking at homes and ended up putting a contract on a wonderful house in May. We had some rocky times in there, mostly because of his ex-wife and their dealings with the kids (he has custody of all), but we got past that and one night at dinner he says, "I talked to your dad today." We were headed back to Joplin that next weekend so I'm like, "Why? Trying to scare up a golf game?" He laughed and said, "No silly, I've been trying to give you this..." and hands me a ring box. It's a little blurry now, but I think he said,"It's time I had the woman I love and my kids all in the same place." Very sweet. The rest is history.
We had some work to do on our new home and when his lease was up in June and mine up in mid-July, we both finally got ourselves and all 5 kids moved into the new house. My sister has been after me constantly to get started planning the wedding, but between the move and finishing out the walk-out basement (we need the extra bedrooms!), I really haven't had time to look up this summer. The kids are now back in school and I've had more time to devote to the wedding lately.
Our goal with this wedding was to have something nice for family and friends and ourselves since neither of us had a very nice wedding the first time around. Also, it's been very important for us to have a ceremony that includes all of our kids. My daughter (18) and my sister are sharing MOH duties, his daughter (14) is my bridesmaid and my niece is the flowergirl. His sons (20 and 18) will be his best men and my son (13) will be Bill's groomsman. My nephew is the ringbearer, and he gets to wear his tux-EEE-do one more time (he was in another wedding in July and that's how he pronounces tuxedo!)
I have the dress picked out, the bridesmaids dresses picked out and I bought his daughter's dress a couple of weeks ago because it's a little different from the one my sister and daughter are wearing but it's the same color and style and it was on clearance. WHOO-HOO

I chose an Art Deco/old Hollywood theme. I love the Art Deco look and the old glamour girls of that era. The ceremony site is an old Art Deco masonic cathedral with lots of old, dark wood and marble and the theme just seemed to fit with the site perfectly. There is a two-level gray/white marble staircase at the entrance that I think will look great for pictures with my dress and the grey fur I'm wearing for the ceremony. I've chosen not to wear a veil, just a headpiece and wear elbow-length white gloves.
My only flowers are white calla lilies, with the exception of my bouquet for which I plan to use "black" callas which are actually a very dark purple. My colors are white, dark purple (plum), silver and a little black. I'm ordering my flowers wholesale (120 mini-whites and 60 large whites) and plan to do the centerpieces, ceremony arrangements and bouquets myself, but I will order the bouts and corsages locally.
I've picked out a cake top:
http://images.theknot.com/blimages/P918_m.jpg Except we are a "V" instead of an "M"
The cake I want is something similar to this:
http://www.dianescakesandmore.com/weddingcakegallery/thumb_trosclairgp.jpg (http://www.dianescakesandmore.com/weddingcakegallery/trosclairgp.htm) Only I would like a few purple and white calla lilies instead of the roses.

The favors were really hard for me, particularly since I wanted something unique that represented something that both he and I like. I chose these from Rexcraft.com:
http://www.rexcraft.com/pics/SpecialtyProductPics/Rexcraft/W05734_117lr.jpg (javascript:openCloseUpPopUp())
I plan to use the Monogram with black lettering and a purple or silver bow. The plan is to fill them with little plastic baggies (http://home.onemain.com/~glassine/ziplock_poly_bags.htm )
filled with Herbes de Provence (a savory/sweet blend of French and Italian herbs) and include a thank you/recipe card. I can do it all for less than $70 for 150 guests. I didn't think that was too bad.

Centerpieces:
I found 6" square glass vases at Michael's for $2.50 each. I want to fill them with acrylic diamonds http://www.yourweddingcompany.com/images/medium/med_DC074.jpg and have 7 or 8 mini white calla lilies in a small arrangement. My reception site has white linens, but I thought I might use plum or silver table runners or over-drapes with the centerpieces and 3 or 4 tealight candles. I plan to put favors at each place setting.

I've been working on music for the ceremony lately. I've come up with a less-than-traditional list:
6:02 "All I Want Is You" -U2
3:17 "As Time Goes By" -Tony Bennett
2:53 "It Had to Be You" - Harry Connick, Jr.
2:53 "The Best is Yet To Come" -Frank Sinatra
3:24 "The Way You Look" -Tony Bennett (Seating of the Moms)
3:28 "Unforgettable" -Nat King Cole (Bridesmaids)
1:51 "Bridal Chorus" traditional -Wagner (Processional)
3:25 "Isn't It Romantic" - Tony Bennett (Recessional)
4:21 "Beautiful Day" -U2
3:24 "Come Fly With Me" -Frank Sinatra
I've still got some kinks to work out as far as timing the music, but it will get there. Ok, so U2 isn't exactly with the theme, but they are my absolute favorite band of all time.
Some of my stuff isn't too traditional, but I don't want music during the ceremony itself because even if I was doing a unity candle, everyone sits and looks around for the longest time after you're done and before the song is over. Another thing I don't plan on doing is a receiving line. I would rather greet my guests one by one than having people standing in line waiting to talk to us.

I LOVE U2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear to all things Holy, one day, I will leave my husband for Bono. He and I will save the world together. :bbmrgreen:
I used Beautiful Day for the wedding recessional after the ceremony. All I Want is You was our first dance.

Still working on shoes. I must have tried on about 800 pair. I wear clogs every day at work and rarely have occasion to where heels, so ALL heels are uncomfortable. I know that most people prefer strappy little sandles, but I want closed toe shoes. I'm getting married in January for pete's sake! My sister (a manager for David's Bridal) thinks I'm a freak for wanting closed-toes, but I HATE to have cold feet. These are the front-runners right now:

Bill asked me the other night if there was something I wanted him to do. Very sweet, but WHAT? He's more of a religious person than I am and even though we feel the same about most things, the religious significance of the wedding is VERY important to him. Right now, we are living in sin if you know what I mean. So, I suggested that he write our vows. It would give him a little project and something to put his stamp on. I can't wait to see what he comes up with. Of course, I have the final edit on mine!

I wore closed toe shoes in May. I'm not a big sandal wearer in general. But, everyone saw mine. You couldn't miss them since they were hot pink and black.

I think I've narrowed it down to this hairstyle:
329
My hair is a dark auburn, so any ornaments I have will probably really stand out. No veil, though. And I wish my sister would quit bugging me about that!!!!
I wish I could wear my grandmother's pearl necklace and bracelet, but they are ivory and my dress is bright white. I don't want to change the dress color because I love the silver/plum/black combo and ivory wouldn't look good with that. I've got to find some jewelry, maybe rhinestones.

Well, it was back to work today. My son started his new school this morning and I wished I could've gone in late to see him off. My first case was at 730 this AM and it just wasn't possible. Thank God for Bill! He made sure Evan was up and running this morning in time to catch the bus. Seems like he had a good day and met a few kids. We bought Chiefs season tickets earlier this year, so Bill and his son are at the game tonite. GO CHIEFS!!!
I took a couple of invitation catalogs to peruse over lunch. I originally was going to go with something off DB's website since I get 20% off and my sister's discount, but I found some things I like better in the catalogs so now I've got to make a decision on those. Not that I want something terribly fancy, but I do want something elegant and nice. At the very least, I have my wording picked out:
sVw
Together with their families
Stephanie Lynn H*
and
William Anthony V*
request the pleasure of your company
as they have chosen
Saturday the Thirteenth of January
Two Thousand and Seven
as the first day of their new life together
You are invited to share in their joy
as they exchange marriage vows
at one o'clock in the afternoon
Scottish Rite Cathedral
Joplin, Missouri
We are hosting the wedding ourselves and I've looked at several options for the wording and ended up combining several different options to come up with something I like. Pretty much everything in our wedding has some sort of "V" monogram and I liked the monograms at the top of the invite.

We are planning an early afternoon ceremony and a reception to follow immediately at a local country club. I got the menu with prices from the club in an email earlier today. Since it's only a cocktail reception, I plan to go with hors d'oeurves but I feel badly we can't do more of a dinner type thing. Ah well...
I have to buy my champagne from the club and I'm thinking of maybe offering keg beer and/or a selection of wine gratis. I really don't like the idea of a cash bar, but it's done more often than not in this neck of the woods. I want to have a larger 2-tier cake (white)with a groomscake (red velvet or chocolate) on the left and an arrangement of marzipan fruit on the right. I think most "hot" hors d'oeurves are messy, so I'm thinking maybe a fruit tower, a selection of cheeses, finger sandwiches, and maybe some other lighter foods. I've been trying to come up with foods that go with my theme, but it's HARD!!!
One bright spot, I was really worried about whether to invite my coworkers or not. Of course I'd love to, but that's just a lot more people and it's 2 hours away. I expressed my concern to one of my work buddies and she suggested that the group throw a wedding party/couple shower sometime around our wedding date. I had planned on having a housewarming party sometime during December, but might be able to incorporate all of it into one. What a sweet thought she had and it took a little of the load off my mind. I could cater my own party and still do extra favors and such for my friends up here. Oh happy day...

Lacey, thanks for sending me the pics of your invites. VERY nice! Again, you and I have similar tastes, I think, and I appreciate your time. I certainly don't mind you posting whatever on my journal, any ideas and pictures are welcome. I've found it's much easier than someone sending me a link, I like having it all in one place! I'm going to look on Regency's website to see what else they have as well...thanks again!:D
Well, I went home yesterday to pick up Megan's (Bill's daughter) junior bridesmaid dress and to see my niece and nephew. Her dress matches the one's I picked out for my sister and my daughter, only with spaghetti straps and a slightly different skirt. Same beading, same color, etc. When I picked those out a couple of weeks ago, my sister was running the numbers and discovered that that particular color in that style of JB dress was being discontinued and she'd be unable to order it. The only store that had one in stock was in Kansas City, Kansas and she would have to order it in. Not only that, but it was a size too big. Mom can take it in and shorten it with no problem, but the real coup was that it was on clearance and I got the $129 dress for $40!!! WHOO-HOO! It looks just great...
The Bad News: While I was home, I went by the venue that I'd booked for my reception. I hadn't been there in a few years and just wanted to check it out and pick up a pricing list. OH MY GOD...I don't think they've redecorated the place since we were members at the club back in, like, 1980! Was really upset by that. Originally, I was planning a 1 pm ceremony followed by an afternoon cocktail reception. BUT, my son was really disheartened by the fact that I wasn't having a DJ and by default, no dancing. So, I'm getting a friend of my brother's to DJ, rearranging some things for other reasons and moving the ceremony to 6pm and the reception to follow that evening. Maybe the country club will look better after dark. Besides, my sister was concerned that we wouldn't get everything done that Saturday in time for an early afternoon ceremony. She was probably right.
So, even though I haven't cancelled the reception venue booking, I'm now shopping again for a site. I went by my dad's house on the way back to the city and told them my dilemma. They suggested several options: 1. Hold the reception at the Scottish Rite (my ceremony site) and have all my food, linens and liquor catered in (save money on site, spend more on extras), 2. Melissa, my step-mom, suggested the Joplin Women's Club (old historic building, same Art Deco style as my ceremony site), they have tables, chairs, linens, flatware and tableware and they have a caterer in-house. That would be really cool, but pricey on the food and I'd still have to have liquor brought in. 3. Twin Hills Country Club. Dad's a member so the room fee would be $400 ($150 more than BB), minimum $500 on food (no problem). BUT, they won't let me bring ANYTHING in, including a cake, and they won't do a cash bar. We were planning on supplying champagne, beer and wine, but if anyone wants anything else...THIS SUCKS! I have some other options, but all sound worse than the above on either decor and ambience, crappy food or a liquor restriction. I'll keep looking and if nothing pans out, then I'll keep my site and wrap everything in tulle, light some candles and dim the lights!!!:urgh:
The Good News: Bill's mom called yesterday for her weekly visit and during the regular conversation asked how the planning was going. Bill told her some of the ideas and what I was working on and she said that her and Bill's dad had talked about it and decided that they would pay half of the costs up to a certain amount. Not expecting that. My budget was around 6, but I think that it just got amp'ed up a little bit! I had really been doing VERY well on my budget, and even though I don't think I'll spend oodles more, it does give me a little more leeway for spending on things like a nicer reception site, more food, a DJ, the fancier invites I like and other stuff. COOL!

WOW!!!!!!!!! Not terribly crazy about the polka dots, but the scrollwork is FABULOUS!!!!!
Other cake ideas with an Art Deco touch:
I think this one would look better in silver, black and white. And the topper and starts would have to go. Maybe a plum touch here and there:

Interesting. But I like the diamond pattern fondant:

I LOVE the first cake. People will give you all types of unsolicited comments about the black and white cake. Ignore them. No one had black teeth at my wedding, I assure you.

Those are beautiful!!!
Thank you! I don't want our names printed at the top, just a "V" about twice that size in the same script. Working with a local printing house that carries that particular invitation and they are working on a proof with the monogram for me. Can't wait to see it.
Sent some pictures of it to my cake lady this morning, I'm hoping she can copy the scrollwork on the top of the invite for my cake. I had sent her some pictures earlier and she sent some of her work back yesterday, so I'm thinking it won't be a problem. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Ok, this really sucks. Neither my sister or my best friend liked much about the whole black and white thing. My sister:
OK, so I'm with you on the scrollwork on the invites or the monogram, but all together I think may be too much. I like the scrollwork on the cake, but in a monotone color. Could you do a really dark chocolate color icing on white cake so it looks black? Are you still wanting square cakes? As for the invites...what about the black flap one with the simple square on front? Could you get the monogram there instead of the full names? My opinion is that you want this (from what you've told me) to be a very sophisticated, clean looking event. I'm worried that you are going to get too formal and fussy if you try to incorporate all the scrolls, the monograms, the black/white contrast. Think clean lines and play up just one element. Just my opinion.
and my best friend:
Okay........the black on the cakes looks okay, but I'm telling you, people will be afraid to eat it. If you're going to do black, I'd either do minimal black icing or black non-edibles. The first cake is just too much, the second cake reminds me of Target Club Wed, and the third one is a GREAT base for something.......maybe scroll work instead of the flowers, or a different floral. I like the balance of black to white. The bow is gross, though! Maybe you could somehow tie the eggplant/silver/black together on the top and on the pan itself?
The invites.........well, my best advice is to make sure you don't buy ones that are going to require extra postage. Often the square ones do, and if they have normal envelopes, will it bug you that it's a square invite in a rectangular envelope? I know it's a little thing, but you ARE a bride, and subject to bizarre Bridezilla meltdowns, even though you continue to insist you're completely in control..........
(I'm just kidding, you know)
My LEAST favorite is the second one, with the monogram. The one with all the scroll work is pretty but would be a b***h for people to RSVP .... both writing on black and you READING black.
My favorite is the solid black one that opens up and has the place for the reply card, although the font isn't my favorite, and I'd probably just put your first names on the front. The bottom 4 are all okay, but if you don't want to f*** with bows..........???? (plus they're all square).
Welp, that's my 2 cents. And the more I think about it, the more I think you should get a white wrap (chiffon???? or something really light like that) with silver threading to wear, instead of the stole. You can wear the stole to and from the church, might keep you warmer than whatever jacket you were thinking about.

I told you, people would have a comment on the black and white cake. I assure you though no one had black teeth and everyone ate it. Your best bet for sanity is to run your wedding like a CIA mission (only with more success). Keep everyone on a need to know basis. If they don't need to know (meaning they will die if you don't tell them) than simply don't tell.

I am just about there. My sister has been pretty good, other than insisting I wear a veil. No way, no day. I love my best friend, but our lives, our tastes and even the way we look are like photo negatives of each other. Add to that, she's about 8 months pregnant and has an opinion on EVERYTHING. I like the CIA mission analogy, but I'm thinking it's more like "Mission Impossible!" But, I'm usually a pretty strong person and get my way and this is MY wedding and I'll do what I want....Thanks Lacey!

I haven't gotten much done this weekend. I had a good friend and former coworker that was killed in a car wreck last Tuesday morning on his way to work. He went to work for a local surgeon about the time I moved to KC last year. The saddest part in all of this was that the wreck was Tuesday, but they didn't find him or his car until early Thursday morning. Jim's funeral was yesterday and I got up early in the morning and drove 3 hours to attend. It was good to see so many Freeman people, but I hate it that it had to be at a funeral. Katie rode back to Joplin with me and we spent the late afternoon with a small group of Freeman people at Kitchen Pass having a few drinks and self-medicating the pain. Hadn't hung out with Kate in quite awhile and it was good to spend time with her. He left his wife and 3 daughters and my prayers are with them...
Goodbye my good friend...

I have a reception site!!! I'm inked in and Michael is sending me the contract via snail mail. WHOO-HOO!
Called Twin Hills this afternoon and my step-mom had it all wrong! And, they've redecorated very nicely since I'd been there last.
-$200 room fee
-$2500 minimum for non-members, no minimum for members (that's Dad)
-seating for 180 in the north room
-no problem having a cash bar available, we are also providing keg beer, boxed wine, champagne and a signature drink.
-around $12/pp for numerous appetizers, I get to choose from 17!
-AND, I DO get to bring in my cake, and nuts and mints (she told me I couldn't)
About the same price as Briarbrook, but infinitely better. Better decor, better food and there is a canopy over the entrance in case the weather is bad. Dandy. Another nice thing, it's outside of town. I didn't want anyone drinking much and then trying to drive very far to get home. Oh happy day...

Well, another day off shot to h*ll. Didn't get much accomplished today other than picking out what I'm taking to LA on Friday. Add to that the added bonus that the bedroom looks like a bomb went off. Still waiting on the card to get ordering wedding goods. :irked:
My officiant-in-waiting did call me back today and we are a go. He really doesn't have to work weekends at the hospital and was totally available that weekend. That's some good news.

Well, back to the real world. The trip to Cali with Mom and Ashlee was pretty fun. We left early Friday morning (7:15 flight) and after a 4 hour layover in Phoenix (was supposed to be 2 hours), finally made it into Burbank about 2 their time. Went to visit my great aunt and hung out with the family all day. My cousin's wedding was Saturday afternoon.
Interesting bunch, kind of like having circus people in your family. My great auntie has a home outside of Pasadena and her daughter and two grandkids live with her. The daughter has some kind of muscle disease and is on disability, the aunt is retired, and the two grandkids (ages 30 and 37) don't work. Everyone lives off her disability check! It's crazy. One of the grandkids, my cousin Alex, is the one who's wedding we went to. She lives in her grandmother's dining room that is partitioned off and the new husband has moved in there with her! Her wedding was okay, however, I'm a little upset that her bridesmaid dresses are the same color I picked out and some of her other stuff is similar to mine. But like Mom said, no one from there is going to my wedding and other than her and my sister and me, no one is going to know. Besides, my wedding will be totally different than hers for several reasons.
Sunday, we drove down to San Diego and went to Coronado Island to see the Hotel del Coronado. Very cool old Victorian hotel that's supposedly haunted. We didn't take the tour, but walked around and shopped and checked out the beach. Had lunch on the island and drove back up to LA via PCH and went through the little beach towns. We stopped in Laguna and did a little beachcombing and check out the tidal pools. What a nice day...
Monday, Ashlee and I drove into Burbank and went to get tickets for Jay Leno (they were FREE!) and then drove on down into Hollywood and checked out the Walk of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. We had to be back at NBC by 3 to get in line for the show. Jay had Eva Longoria and Death Cab for Cutie on the show and it was really neat to see what goes on behind the scene. It was filmed in real time, so it started about 4:15 and we were done by 5:30 and back on our way to Pasadena.
Piddled around yesterday morning at one of the malls and got on the flight home about 3. Got into KC about 10 last night. Long day and everyone was tired!! It's good to be home!
I really enjoyed San Diego and that area, if Bill and I decide not to leave the country for our honeymoon, I wouldn't mind going back there. Lots to do and much cleaner than up north. I was really disappointed on how dirty the highways and stuff were up closer to LA.

3. Appt with Joyce Snider, my cake lady, at 2pm
4. Appt with Justin at The Wild Flower at 330p to discuss bouts and corsages.
Need to do:
1. Call Chris B. about DJing the reception.
2. Decide on a menu for the buffet.
3. Need to ask Bridget about cutting my cake for me.
4. NEED TO REGISTER!!!!
Decided to have Eva (FG) carry a small bouquet of her own instead of a basket. Mom is going to make a ribbon ringbearer's pillow for Clay also, instead of having me order one. Very nice.
So much to do, so little time...ONLY 99 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!!

Been a busy week! Went home for my nephew's birthday party on Sunday and stayed over to see Cindy's new baby and get some wedding stuff done...
On Monday, called Cassie about the photography. She's sending me some examples of her work via email and she'll let me know. Wants a list of pictures I'd like to have...
Worked Tuesday and went back home to Joplin on Wednesday. Really had a nice day with Mom! Went to Twin Hills (reception site) to check things out and work out some details. Absolutely perfect! Paid $100 deposit to hold the space and need to have a preliminary count/menu by 12/27, final by 1/10/07. I'm thinking I'm going with the London Broil (beef) with shallots and merlot sauce and the Breast of Chicken with Champagne Cream, Duchess potatoes, sugar snap peas and glazed carrots. Price includes fruit display, 3 different salads, 1 starch, 2 vegetables, dinner rolls with butter, coffee, tea and chef's choice of dessert. I can substitute an appetizer, vegetable or starch for the desserts, so I'm thinking about having a cheese display added and have that and the fruit display ready to go when guests arrive. That way they can have a drink or two and something to munch on while they wait for us.
Went to the Scottish Rite, it is WONDERFUL!! Paid $150 deposit, rest is due by 1/3/07. Rehearsal from 6-7p on Friday and we have the space from 3 until 730 on Saturday. Need to be in the building to decorate on 1/12 between 8a and noon. It is a fabulous building (on the National Register of Historic Places) and the auditorium is very ornate and interesting, but the stage itself is rather boring and needs decor. Mom suggested resin pedestals for the floral arrangements, but we need to find something to backdrop the minister and us. I might run chiffon or tulle down the aisle for some ambience. Would like to have some candles, but not sure where I would put them. Found outlets by the back row for Cindy to run my ceremony music.
Mom and I went to lunch at KP and then checked out the Marriott Residence Inn for possible rehearsal dinner. They have a room available that holds up to 32, but it's $300! Hoping Denise might be able to get a reduced rate or comped if we book a certain number of rooms for guests. Kierstin should be able to reserve the rooms as a Marriott employee at a substantially reduced rate. We'll see on that one. Mom's working on a caterer for the dinner on Friday.
Met with the cake lady about 230. She works from her home and when her and her husband built the house, she had a cake kitchen put in in the basement. Six cakes were in the display case and she had numerous ones in her photo book. It's going to be a little expensive, but she does fantastic, custom and one-of-a-kind work. Cake: (white cake, white icing, white fondant with calla lilies and black/silver scrollwork) $475 for 100 servings and $85 for the groomscake (chocolate with white icing, Chiefs logo with edible season ticket image) that serves about 60. Total with tax and stand rental: $608. Paid a $50 booking deposit and a $150 refundable equipment deposit. $279.26 due by 12/01 and remainder ($279.26) due in cash by 12/21/06. Very nice older lady!
Also met with Justin at The Wild Flower about the bouts and corsages. He was just great! Grooms bout, 10 regular bouts, 3 mother's corsages, 2 grandmother's corsages and 3 wedding party corsages, all with callas, greenery and ribbon for $253. $50 deposit due by 12/01, remainder due on 01/12/07 when we pick them up. Beautiful!!!!!
Last stop was David's to see Ashlee and look at jewelry, shoes and gloves. Found the shoes and gloves, but the necklace set (w/earrings for $125) and headband (turns into a bracelet to keep for $225) that I like are SO expensive. A suggested that I let her by the necklace set (she gets 25% off) and the bracelet ($65), pay her back and have the bracelet pinned into my hair instead of buying the wired one. It could happen, because I really haven't found anything else I like!
Worked Thursday and Friday and here we are on Saturday with 91 days to go... Packages have been arriving in the mail about everyday for a week, it's like Christmas!
Invitations came on Thursday and they look wonderful. I ended up going with this one from www.theamericanwedding.com (http://www.theamericanwedding.com):

Everything else has arrived too except for the baggies for the favors. I love my favors, but I didn't expect to have to cut out every single one! They come 2 per page and are printed, but not cut out. I figure I can cut out 5 per day and have them done by the time Mom and Ashlee come to help put them together at Thanksgiving! Ouch...
Heard back from Bridget on Tuesday, she is willing to cut the cake for me, Cindy is going to help her serve and Kate is going to handle the guest book at the ceremony. Still working on someone to handle the gift table at the reception.

One of my formal portraits. Notice the ice covering everything outside. Our wedding was January 13th, right in the middle of the midwest ice storm! We originally had 153 yeses for the wedding/reception, but only had about 80 be able to come because of the storm. Thankfully, the country club let me drop my numbers that morning because of the weather...

I was wondering what had happened to you. Looks like everything was beautiful -- even with the huge storm. I would like to see some more pics though. :D

Gorgeous, just gorgeous. And the snow outside the window, while making it hard to get all of your guests there, is beautiful as a background in the photo.
Wow you guys sure do have a beautiful family! The pictures were so luxuriuos looking. I'm sorry about the problems that the snow caused, but like Maria said the backdrop that it provided is amazing.
