We haven't decided whether or not we will have a DJ at the wedding. We also wanted our guitar teacher to play for a while. Here's what I was thinking, just play what songs we want off of CDs (or have someone in charge of that) and then have our guitar teacher play for maybe an hour or so. I just don't want to be tied down to a set schedule with a DJ and I have a list of songs that I must have played at the reception. How did all of you do it? If you had neither band, nor DJ, did it turn out well?

Well I'm a Youth Worker and I have numerous clients that do the DJ thing so I'm thinking I "might" (still not sure) have them do it. I'm going to make a list of required play songs and then they can fill the rest. I was at a wedding the other day where about 10 of the bride's requested songs were played so that was a BIG disapointment.
The CD idea is great. Just make sure you make a couple of copies if you do it that route. You never know if it might scratch or whatever.

Check your local party rental places. There's a thing called "DJ In A Box". You program it with the songs you want played and the times that specific songs are to be played (first dance, cake cutting, etc.). I think the rental was $250, with speakers and microphone, for the day. You spend a little time before the wedding programing it. Joe and I considered this if our DJ fell through.
