Are your dogs/cats/etc just pets or are they part of your family and/or your 'kids'?

I started calling our dogs our 'furkids' sort of as a way to antagonize my mom :bbtwisted: I'd call them her 'gran-dogs' but she seemed to like it and it kind of stuck.

Most of my friends ask me 'how are the kids' ... my sister says "They are just dogs" and gets offended when I mention how there are similarities to having kids and dogs

They are just as important to me as a child would be and since I'm not having human kids it works for me ;)

DH had a hard time at first with me calling myself mom and him dad to the dogs, but he gets it now and is ok with it. What else am I suppose to say when I talk to them :bbconfused:

My cat is definitely treated as if he were my own kids. I change positions in bed for him, I come inside from the porch when he's crying for attention. It's horrible!! I adore him, he's just so cute!

What would the difference be between just pets and babies?

We certainly love our cat and consider her part of our little family, she is all the responsibility we want. After we are finished eating we save her some table food, but we don't take her places or take pics with her to put on a Christmas card or anything.

My parents have a dog and have had her since I was 10, I consider her my little sister. So I selected that we consider her our baby. She is treated just as well as my sister and I.

I guess that would be the difference ;) I take my dogs anywhere I can, I take pictures of them alot ... they are just generally spoiled. And I think about them when I plan my day and when I have to be away from them. Sometimes I won't want to leave the house unless it is really 'worth it' to pack them up and take them with me or have to leave them at home and crate them ;)

I do want to take a picture of them with DH and I to send to all the people that love to send me Christmas cards with pictures of their kids on them :bbtwisted: ;)

Our cats are just as big part of our family as the rest of us. We worry when one is sick and make sure they dont get out so we dont lose them. They get whiny when we stay up too late because they want to go to bed but will only go when we do. We take care of them as if we would any one else in the house. They want attentionwe give it to them. They come running when we get home as if they have missed us. When Nicholas comes in at night they perk their ears up and go running to great him. One of them even comes running and jumps on me tolet me know he is home. One has to sleep next to me every night. I will get comphy and try not to disturb her. They are a huge part of our life. My husband wants a dog but we cant have one right now. He has never had cats until we got these 2 and he is so attached to them. We call each other moomy and daddy when talking to the cats. We got them for the kids but the cats clamed Nicholas and I as their own lol.

I guess she's more of a pet then, I hope that doesn't sound mean. Some of this is kind of her choice, she has kind of a snooty personality. She will not let anyone pick her up and hold her (myself included), she struggles and whines. She would be a terror to try to take to a park or something. :bblol: She will sit on our laps but only if it's on her terms. She is similar in personality to the cat in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, very spastic. She does have her own pillow on our bed, but she rarely sleeps there anymore though. She probably thinks she is too good to be considered human or even anything close to it. :bblol:

I am very attached to Ruffles and Ellie. (More so to Ruffles since I have had her since I was 14). They are definately a part of the family. They sleep with us (Ruffles 100% of the time, Ellie, as she sees fit.) They go on our Christmas cards. I only let my parents sit for them when I am out of town. When we are gone, we call and check on them. I worry about them when I am not at home. They get top of the line everything from vet care to toys. They are very loved, pampered, and spoiled. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Rudy is definietely our furbaby!!! We had a birthday party for him, he gets Christmas presents, special treat meals on Saturdays and Holidays, loads of attention and a lot of pics taken. He is our boy. He is not only spoiled by us, but my his grandparents and his aunt Heather too!!! He is just such a perfect cat!!!

Our babycakes is one of the family. But no pictures on christmas cards or anything like this. We love her to death but she is not one of our kids. She pretty much gets her way most of the time, but she is still afterall a pet.

Murray is Elias's older bro. That's just the way it is.. I mean, last night, for example, I went into the bedroom to check on Elias. Murray was curled up right next to him, asleep. He gaurds him when he's sleeping! :bbmrgreen:

They are my pets. I do buy them Christmas gifts, wrap them, and put them under the tree. We don't celebrate birthdays though. And I am Mommy to them, and not Karen. But I don't ever consider them my kids.

My parents consider everything from the kittens to the horses their babies. IF any of them get sick or hurt, they get better treatment than I ever did. And they eat better too.

I don't have a dog right now, but when I do get my puppy, she will be my little baby and she will be treated just like a child.

Our guinea pigs are our babies. We call ourselves mommy and daddy when we are talking to them. They would go to the vet when they are sick, get christmas presents, all that fun stuff.

They are our furbabies, but they do not replace our human babies!!
