Why is tea and coffee called decaf. but sodas are "caffeine free"?

I *think* it is because tea and coffee are naturally caffeinated, so the process is to take the caffeine out of it, where with soda, they can add it in, or leave it out. So tea and coffee would be DE-caffeinated, where soda would be caffeine free.

So, then root beer (naturally caffeine), would be called what? And, then what do you call Barq's, artificially caffeinated?

I was hoping it was something a little more ridiculous, like beverages that can be drank warm or cold are decaf. While beverages that are drank only cold are caffeine free.

Root beer is not naturally caffeinated. Most companies put caffeine free on theirs because they would have to add the caffeine. Barq's root beer added caffeine to theirs.

Decaff still contains some caffeine, while soda can be complete caffeine free. I think I heard up to 10% caffeine.

I tried to edit it and put caffeine free.

These new fangled computers are just to complicated! :bbconfused:

Ahh. Most root beer companies don't add caffeine, so they wouldn't have to put anything on it. For Barq's, I would think they would say with caffeine-or caffeine free if they have a version available without caffeine.
