Wow I can hardly believe Averi is going to be 1 in a few short weeks. Anyways, I really want to be done with bottles when Averi switches over to milk. But so far the ONLY thing I can get her to drink from a sippy cup is water. She wont drink juice of any kind and certainly not formula. Any advice? Also how much milk should they be getting once they are done with formula?

I was told that 500-600ml of milk per day contained the entire RDI of calcium, so if you give that much milk each day they shouldn't have any yogurt, cheese, calcium enriched cereals, etc. My pedi also told me not to give milk in bottles because it increases to risk of tooth decay by quite a bit, because it is high in sugar, so we threw the bottles away. We actually don't really do milk at all. Zac eats more then enough cheese and yogurts etc, and has a bit on his cereal in the morning, and he gets pretty much bang on the RDI of calcium.

I also read (while googling to make sure I wasn't giving you terrible and grossly incorrect advice, lol) that too much calcium can lead to an iron deficiency, and can somehow increase fussy eating. Not sure how that works, but thought that might be of interest to you. Here is the linky http://www.huggies.com.au/baby-care/baby-feeding/nutrition/milk-intake

Meanwhile, I can't believe Averi is almost one! This last year or so has gone so quick, it seems like yesterday that we were all pregnant.

Our pediatrician told up they need 16-24 oz of whole milk. We do still give them bottles a couple times a day because they won't take more than a few sips out of the sippy cups and they don't seem to get enough to satisfy their hunger just from solids. I really need to focus on getting them off the bottles soon and increase their solid intake!!

Carter drinks about 16 oz of milk a day. I give him his before nap and before bed. Then he is kind of drinking it like his bedtime bottle had been. Then water with all his meals and such.

We still give Brant a bedtime bottle of 6 oz. Then he drinks it from a sippy cup at lunch and supper. Not sure how much he gets, as he also eats yogurt and cheese.

I don't even know how much real milk I actually give Ollie. He probably drinks about 16oz a day.

He gave up the bottle easily, but he was mostly breastfed before he was one. He's also a little piggy so he was happy to drink milk from just about whatever I gave him!

I started him on the sippy cups that have the nipple-like spout. It's soft and more bottle-like. Now he only drinks from the harder spouts because he learned to pour everything out of the nipple ones!

Good luck! I'm sure she'll transition well. It was easy because Ollie LOVES whole milk.

Our pediatrician recommends about 20 or so oz of milk a day. Paisley drinks water from a straw cup most of the day and then I keep a cup of milk substitute in the fridge that I give her throughout the day.

My twins drink maybe 16oz of milk a day. No bottles at all, just sippy cups. I don't think Mackenzie drinks even half of that because she opens her mouth while she drinks and half of it comes back out. Pediatrician said no more than 16oz a day, plus the do eat cheese.

We started mixing milk with formula in their bottles about 2 1/2 weeks before their birthday, so by their birthday they were fine with just milk. I packed all their bottles away the day after their bday and that is where they stayed. But they do great with solids + straw cup. They drink milk with two of their meals and water the rest of the time.

So last night I tired Averi out with half formula and half whole in her sippy cup a dinner. She took one sip and let it all spill out of her mouth and made a face like I just gave her toilet water. I swear the only thing the girl likes to drink and will drink on her own is water. I'm a little worried about what is going to happen in a couple of weeks.

Was the milk cold? I had to warm the milk up for the girls to drink it for the longest time. As time has gone on, I've warmed it less and less and now they are getting used to drinking it cold. I'm thinking that her pickiness goes beyond that though. LOL

Its hard dealing with picky children. The only thing that has worked for us is to just keep trying. Its like they will be so against something and as long as I keep trying, out of the blue it'll just click and they will like it.

Maybe her pediatrician will have some ideas for you when you take her to her 1 year check up?

Maybe put more formula in it at first then slightly decrease the amount just so she won't get an upset tummy.

Jack was the same way, but he soon began to love milk. He LOVES apple juice, at night I kinda water it down so it doesn't have as much "sugar" in it...not that he drinks alot before bed, but its still watered down.

Good luck!

I did 25% milk 75% formula for a week, then the next week 50/50, then the next week 25% formula 75% milk. They love milk now, but they have never been picky. You could also try a different type of milk ( soy, almond, rice, etc.).

Yea she won't drink formula out of a sippy cup at all. I am still trying but I not hopeful that I am going to be able to get rid of the bottle at one.
