View Full Version : Is this a good deal?

I don't know if you guys will have any idea, but I thought I'd ask for some opinions... DH's cousin works at a daycare, and I think it's one of her coworkers she knows that has had twins. She has her double stroller (graco) and two carseats (one is the snugride and I forget what the other was) that fit in the stroller. The double stroller is in great condition because they never really took the twins anywhere. One of the car seats is 3 years old because they had another baby first and used that car seat again.
So anyway, she wants to sell us the double stroller, two car seats, and three bases for $250. I've been looking around on Craigslist, and I've seen double strollers for $110 at the most, but I've also seen them for much lower, like $50 or even less (though I'd assume those are probably ones that have been in the person's garage and getting dirty). Graco car seats on Craigslist seem to average about $50.
There are some benefits to going this way, though... we would be able to trust that everything is in good condition and that the car seats haven't been in accidents.
I dunno.. Do you think $250 is a good deal, or should I try to see if she'd take $200?

I wouldn't offer anything until I saw the items. If they seemed in good shape, I wouldn't off anything above $200. Especially if you have seen them for much less.
I think bargaining it down to $200 sounds good and, you're right, it would be so much better to know the source of the goods.

How old is the stroller and do strollers expire like car seats etc?
I don't mind buying used but I would be hesitant and concerned about whether an item has expired etc.
But trust your gut.

I think the stroller is 18 months old. I don't think they expire, but I could be wrong. I was more worried about the older car seat, but I think it's the same style/model as one that's out now. I guess she's gonna try and sell the stuff at a garage sale if we're not interested... I really don't think she'd get $250 or even $200 at a garage sale, so I feel a little cheated.

Strollers don't expire but car seats expire after 6 years... so not something you need to worry about unless you think you may have more kids down the line

Wait... car seats expire? How?
Not to hijack the thread, but I'd never heard of such a thing.

The plastic is only good for so many years.

Ohhh definitely not, haha; we are done after these two. Our family shall be complete after they're born.
And car seats expire, I think, because they do safety updates on them... or something like that.

I guess it would depend on the actual models. Is it a Graco Duo Glider or Graco Quatro? One costs half as much as the other. If its the cheaper one, then she is really ripping you off.
In my opinion it seems a bit steep to me for used stuff. Can you offer her anything lower? I'm thinking no more than $150. And definitely look at it first because someone's version of excellent used condition might not be the same as mine.

I'm with Daniellepaws. We got a used double stroller for $40 and it was only a year old. It came with a car seat as well. It's a Graco, but I can't recall which type. I feel like you should be able to find a better deal than that for used items.

I agree that seems pretty high...I know my sister loved the the black frame that the car seats snapped into but she got hers I want to say for 100 from a sale. One thing too with car seats is if they have ever been in an accident, even a minor fender bender with no damage you have to replace that car seat...car insurance will cover car seats being replaced when in an accident. and all car seats have that exp date on the label. And make sure to check for no recalls on the manufactor sites also. Nicholas stroller/car seat combo is over 5 yrs old and I just got a recall notice within the last 6 months

I'd be worried the car seats were in an accident, how do you know 100% that they weren't? I also think that is too much.
I sold my double snap n go stroller (black frame that car seats snap too) that was originally 100$ and was only like 8 months old for $40, and a car seat that was only used 8 months and in excellent condition for $50, I still need to put the other on craigslist. So for $140 for stuff only used 8 months and in excellent condition. Where as she is charging $250 for older stuff that includes a car seat that has been used for 2 babies.
