It turns out, Katie LOVES camping. The sleeping is the hardest part for me, but other than that, we had loads of fun this weekend!

We were minimum of 2 hours from a real road, sleeping in a floorless tent (which was at the campground by accident, but the people that left the tents said we could use them 'till they came back for them), with roughly 400 other people. We packed in canned goods since we had to rely on others to get our gear in, so we didn't take an ice chest. And I way overpacked for Katie's clothes haha.

The only shower was a friend's portable shower that was run off a car battery, which was not available to everyone. Remember, roughly 400 people lol. Car battery would have been toast!

This was my ideal camping weekend, as camping itself goes.

Stories!

Floorless tent? Wow. You were roughing it. Lol! 400 people sounds fun. Was this a church thing like a convocation or camp meeting?

I love tent camping and I bring either a cot or an air mattress. I'm a wuss, I can't sleep on the ground. I can't wait until the kids are older so we can tent camp with them. What did you guys eat without an ice chest or were you saying you didn't bring a personal ice chest?

The camp showers are great. Coleman makes a pretty good one that runs off of an independent battery. You can't take a 10 minute "hot" shower but you can get clean.

Sorry for all of the questions! I love camping discussions. :confetti:

OMG I hate camping in tents! Its so uncomfortable, cold & wet in the morning, smelly and buggy and icky. LOL When I was a kid I loved it but I can totally do without it now! Sitting around the campfire though is the best part. Glad you guys had fun though, and that Katie liked it!!

Emi - it was a wheelin' trip (see photos in Katie's journal). It was the first time we got there and there were already tents set up - they were floorless tents so we just put down a tarp and called it good! We didn't even have to set up our own tents because the tents that were there were pretty awesome! No zippers, no shaking them out and putting them away. Score haha!

We didn't take an ice chest at all. We had canned spaghetti o's, raviolis, and mac n cheese. We only had to have that one night though because the other 2 nights our friends roped us in with their meal (which was pretty awesome!).

Danielle - I can understand what you're saying, but that's the "joys" of camping for me. LOL! NOT the bug part, but the smell of the dew in the morning, the drizzle of campfire smoke drifting through the campground, and the air mattresses are all what make camping so enticing for me :D

I love to camp. Cooking over a fire, Not having to put on makeup. RC and I keep talking about going camping together but because of his work it just hasn't worked out. I am now crazing spam and peaches, go figure.

Oh Justina you're brave!! We want to take the kids camping so badly, but I just can't imagine it at this stage of toddler and soon to be newborn. Your trip sounds awesome!! I hope our girls like it because we have big camping and backpacking plans in our family's future.

Yes! I'm so stoked that the twins are old enough to go backpacking. But dangit, I'm Mrs Fatbelly and I can't hike or camp. All the zipping and low beds would be a nightmare on my back. Still, I would love to take the girls tent camping. So far we've only RV camped because we had a mild summer.

SavePaws, when was the last time you went camping and whose tent did you use? Tents don't get moldy anymore. Lol. I never pack my tent up first thing in the morning. I like the morning dew to burn off. And I don't care about it being spotless either because I always take it home and hose it off/sweep it out.

Wow. Camp Talk and Halloween costume planning in one forum - I'm in heaven today! I guess I won't be getting any work done. :D
