Yes, I believe when there is absolutely no hope for recovery, and the person does not choose to continue living their life in that condition, then they should have the right to end it.

I would say yes after all possible efforts have been made. I am against suicide as a rule, but if you are going to die anyway and you are in so much pain why stay here any longer? It is just like if I was on fire and was going to burn to death, I would want someone to shoot me to put me out of my misery.

I have seen a lot of terminally ill people in my day. As long as the person is of sound mind to make the decision ONLY FOR THEMSELVES and there is absolutely no hope for recovery, should they want to take their own lives, I don't see why it is a big deal. We keep saying that it is their body, right? At the point where it is that bad, there time is going to be so short anyway. Why force them to be alive if they are only in grief and agony. Why make them force their fmailies to watch those final days keeping that as tehir last memories. If they want to end their life, as long as there is no hope for recovery, and they are of sound mind I don't see why I have the right to stand in their way.

I agree with Karen completely. My grandfather got a very rare form of cancer 2 years ago and it was already in stage 2 when it was discovered. He went through chemo and radiation, blood transfusions and so many other treatments, but nothing made it better. After 2 months, he decided to stop all treatments and just take pain meds until he died. He died 3 months after they found the cancer, and he was on so much morphine that it was unbelievable and he was still in a bit of pain. I think that if he had taken his own life, I would have understood it.

I think people should have that choice.

Though I do not believe in suicide, I also don't believe in assisting in it is still murder to me. But then, if it were my family member, and they begged and pleaded w me, I don't know what I would do. Ido think that if someone really wants to 'release thier pain', they should have the right. It is a sin, and most people realize that. If they decided that they want to go that route, it is up to them.

Is it me, or are there some pretty strong topics going right now?

I voted 'No, there is no justification for suicide no matter what' If someone I knew wanted to be 'released from their pain' then I would suggest heavy pain meds and let nature takes it's course so to speak.

If they wanted to end it all, then they would have to do that on their own because I couldn't be a part of that.

Matthew and I do not believe in suicide because we believe when you commit suicide you have to do the same CRAPPY life all over again. I would make that person as comfortable as possible and help them die in peace. If they are that sick, their life should not go on much longer anyhow.

That's a chilling thought that now makes me think twice!

That's a chilling thought that now makes me think twice!

I was a very troubled person when I met Matthew and when he told me that I believe I almost turned my life completely around at the moment he told me that! To me it makes perfect sense, and why in the world would I want to even challange that notion!!

But I must say that DNR (do not resusitate) order does not bother me. It just means that that person will be allowed to die instead of having to prolong their life other wise.

I also do not believe in suicide for any reason.

I believe it should be legal, our govt have just refused to legalise it again but ther campaigning goes on. We tend to use the saying that if they were an animal in that much pain then they would be 'put to sleep' yet we allow humans to survive in agony unable to do anything for themsleves just awaiting that day when they eventually pass away - it just seems totally wrong to me. But i do feel that its not somethign to be taken lightly and each case has to be taken on its own merit. x

I think it should be the person's choice. I have seen many people suffer that if given a choice would have probably chosen to end their suffering sooner. Once more this is where the government has stepped in and told me how I can take care of my own body.

I did a speech on this in High School. I think that a person should be able to make these kinds of decisions for themself. If you are sick, and in pain, and it's not getting better, and life just isn't worth living... Then you should be able to do what you want.
