I just have to gloat a little...I think I have the best future MIL ever!!

I have a very strained relationship with my mom. To put it simply it's complicated. Boyfriend's mom (MIL) had the same kind of relationship with her mother. So I can vent to her, and she gives me advice.

A couple weeks before my birthday, I asked her for a backpack for riding on my motorcycle (it was about $50), she said he already had my present. I said ok I understood. She kept sending me emails and asking about it. I figured she would get it too. I had a BBQ at my house, and about 30 people came. Well, for my birthday my mom was less than social. My mom sat on the sofa with the TV full blast for most of it, saying she didn't feel well. I think she was at my house for about 4 hours. If she wasn't feeling well, she should have gone home to sleep or relax without everyone there being loud. I would have understood, we don't plan when we feel good or don't. When I went to open presents, my mom got me a card and a $25 gift cert to the movies. I don't want to sound ungrateful. I love going to the movies, but it seems odd that she got me that. And that's what she planned on a couple weeks before my birthday. It just seems like something she could have picked up on the way to my house.

My mom does that kind of thing all the time. Anyway, my boyfriend's mom was super bothered by that. MIL was so funny. She said to me, you know that's just not fair or right. I'm gunna buy you some pants for that job interview you have. HAHA!! Such a mom response!! I just love that she does that kind of thing. I don't care if she bought me anything ever. I don't need material things, but that she wants to make it right, or help me with this job I desperately want means the world to me!!

I'm glad you can have a relationship with your FMIL even if you can't with your own mom. My relationship with my MIL is very strained so I envy you.
