Okay, so mine and Joe's insurances are running up this month. Currently we are both on our parents. Well, my mom told me I can stay on hers for another 6 months so we can have time to catch up with money. But joes father is wanting $625 NOW.

This wouldnt be a problem but we have spent $1500 of our savings on the wedding but my mom is supposed to be paying me back.

Well, My mom pays about $680 for mine for 6 mo. And joes is $625 for 6 months.

I looked today at Nationwide and it'll be $1100 for 6 months for both. I dont know if I should look at other places, get nationwide, or just pay his dad the $625 and let my mom pay mine for another 6 months.

:goodluck: I hate dealing with insurance stuff. I have State Farm but I don't even know if it's a good deal or not. I've had it for so long and the idea of trying to switch is too exhausting for me to deal with. lol

Well, there are a lot of insurance companies out there. All you need to do is search and compare rates from different insurance companies. If you buy insurance online it would be cheaper than talking to an agent because it is less work for them. I would suggest that you get your own insurance instead of doing a piggy bank with your parents' policy.

We use the general. Yeah, their commercials are really annoying and cheesy, but so far we like them. We only have minimum insurance. We pay monthly, our last payment the other day was $56. That's roughly $336 for 6 months. I'm not sure how much it would be if you want more than just the minimum. But you can get a free quote in a just a few minutes on their website without having to put too much personal info in there. So I suggest looking into them at least :)

Good luck with whoever you decide to go with!

i just recently switched off my moms insurance and onto my own policy... i called around to geico, 21st, nationwide, statefarm, and allstate (we cant use insurance from the general and esurance in DE :( ) and honestly all the prices were about the same... im talking less that a 3 dollar difference will all of em.... so i just stuck with nationwide which is who my mom has had for years..... i think after the wedding FH and i might get on a policy together to get the multi car discount but im not entirely sure...

We have nationwide and are really happy with them. I suggest calling an agent. They normally know extra discounts you can add on to your policy to lower it a bit.

We go through Allied, but we found them through an insurance broker in our hometown. They seem to be pretty reasonable. We pay about $95/month for my SUV (2003) and his car (1997) plus our renters insurance.

I would suggest calling a broker in your area and see if they can find a cheap one for you.

i use geico... i've had them since leaving my moms policy 6+ years ago and have had 2 accidents while using them and i will say i've had a great experience w/them

the last accident we had it was the other guys fault, it was a year ago and geico has been fighting w/their insurance company for a year to get our $500 deductible paid... they never gave up even tho it was money that we've already paid out of pocket... well they JUST got the other company to give it up.

IDK i just figure they could have said eff it, they ain't giving it up... too bad...

We have AllState; we have had it for a while and I guess it is fine. DH handles the bill so I am not sure how much we spend.

I have State Farm too, and I really like them. I pay about $500 every 6 months, broken into 2 payments (But I am older than you so my rate would be different)

When my mom had her car accident State Farm was right there, got her check cut to her within 5 days or so.

I think I would get my own insurance now though. I *think* with State Farm you can pay 1/2 now then 1/2 next month.

It would be worthwhile calling around for quotes - it never hurts. And definitely see about getting your own policy and including Joe - you can likely get multi-vehicle discounts and another discount if you add your home insurance to the policy.

I'm with Traders and pay $68/month so your policies seem high but you're also younger and been licensed for a shorter period of time....all those get factored into the price.

You should probably only be on your mom's if you are still living at home but since you are married now I think it's time for you and Joe to look at getting your own....I'd hate to see you need the insurance and them not provide you with the coverage you need because you are on a policy you really shouldn't be on.

Man! I feel like Peter and I are being ripped off. We pay $260 a month for my car, his mini van and renter's insurance. Granted, we get good coverage... but still!

Anyway, we use State Farm because my family had it for a long time and his family has it. He had his own plan when we moved to NY, so when we moved up here I added onto his account. When we got married, we got a good discount. Also, the money we save for multiple discounts on the renter's insurance is twice what we pay for the renter's insurance itself. State Farm was great about getting us those discounts, and we love our agent. I got into an accident when I was on my mom's Geiko plan, and they were great.

We're around the $190-$200 mark a month for both vehicles and house insurance. The company we are with though gives discounts to DH's company.

I know the company I was with right out of university gave discounts to different alumna groups so it might be worth checking out if different places give discounts to graduates from certain schools.

I have Commerce and I really like them, but they are only available in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
